Frodsham is a market town, civil parish and electoral ward in the unitary authority of Cheshire West and Chester and the ceremonial county of Cheshire, England. It is approximately 3 miles (5 km) south of Runcorn, 16 miles (26 km) south of Liverpool, and 28 miles (45 km) southwest of Manchester. The River Weaver runs to its northeast and on the west it overlooks the estuary of the River Mersey. The A56 road and the Chester–Manchester railway line pass through the town, and the M56 motorway passes to the northwest.

In medieval times Frodsham was an important borough and port belonging to the Earls of Chester Its parish church, St. Laurence's, still exhibits evidence of a building present in the 12th century in its nave and is referenced in the Domesday Book. A market is held each Thursday, and Frodsham's viability as a trading centre was emphasised by the presence of the big five clearing banks and several building societies, though the branches of HSBC and NatWest have recently closed.

The etymology of Frodsham's name is not entirely clear. A literal translation of the Old English would give personal name of Frod or an old spelling of Ford, and ham which means a village or homestead; hence Frod's village or the Village on the Ford (Ford-ham). However, an alternative, more obscure etymology exists which suggests the name means promontory into marsh, which would make sense considering that Frodsham had a promontory castle very close to marshland. Frodsham is unique as the name of a settlement in the British Isles. Earlier spellings of the name have included Fradsham, Frandsham, Frodisham, Ffradsam and Ffradsham.

Frodsham Hill is the location of an Iron Age promontory fort, the outline of which can still be seen. The town is of Saxon origin; its 11th-century church is mentioned in the Domesday Book. Frodsham was an important manor of the medieval Earls of Chester and was created a borough in the early 13th century, probably by Earl Ranulf III. The mouth of the River Weaver, where it joins the Mersey, made Frodsham into a significant port for the coasting trade, particularly for the export of Cheshire salt, brought down the river from Northwich and Nantwich.

Frodsham was the headquarters of Runcorn Rural District Council. In 1974 the district was split between Halton Borough Council, Warrington Borough Council and Vale Royal District Council (latterly Vale Royal Borough Council). In the early 1990s Vale Royal Borough Council opened a new purpose-built headquarters in Winsford. At the same time, its offices in Hartford near Northwich (the former headquarters of Northwich Rural District Council) and at Castle Park in Frodsham (the former headquarters of Runcorn Rural District Council) were downgraded. Castle Park House had a major refurbishment in 2005–06 and now operates as a one-stop shop for Cheshire West and Chester Council providing a number of services for the community and for businesses.

Frodsham, like the neighbouring village of Helsby, has a hill overlooking the Mersey estuary, which is popular with dog walkers and naturalists. Frodsham Hill, overlooking Frodsham and the Liverpool skyline, is a large sandstone hill, home to many farms, prestige homes and the Mersey View nightclub (commonly known as 'the View') and Forest Hills Hotel. Before the construction of the hotel and nightclub, famously hosting one of the Beatles' first appearances, the site was home to a very large helter skelter. The Frodsham Caves are found in the sandstone foundations of Frodsham Hill.

Frodsham sits beneath the imposing wooded escarpment of Beacon Hill, which is also known locally as Frodsham Hill or Overton Hill and whose top attains a height of just over 500 feet (152 m). The hill forms the northern end of the Mid-Cheshire Ridge, a range of sandstone hills that extends southwards to Delamere Forest and Tarporley.

There is a railway station in Frodsham which is managed by Arriva Trains Wales. It runs an hourly service between Manchester Piccadilly and Llandudno via Frodsham and Chester. There are also infrequent services by Northern between Ellesmere Port and Liverpool Lime Street via Warrington Bank Quay. Frodsham lies within the administrative area of Cheshire West and Chester Council.

Tarporley is a large village and civil parish in Cheshire, England. It is bypassed by the A49 and A51 roads, and holds a regular country market on the first Saturday of each month. Tarporley civil parish also contains the village of Rhuddall Heath. Since 2009 it forms part of the unitary authority district of Cheshire West and Chester.

Tarporley High Street features four pubs: the Foresters Arms, the Swan Hotel, the Crown Hotel, and the Rising Sun. The High Street is also home to four restaurants: Piste, The Coast Restaurant and Bar, Little Tap, and STREET Tarporley. The Tarporley Hunt Club, the oldest surviving hunt club in England, meets in the village every Christmas.

The Urban District of Tarporley was created in 1894 and was abolished in 1936. From 1936 until 1974 Tarporley was a part of the Rural District of Northwich, until that district's abolition as a result of the Local Government Act 1972. From 1 April 1974 Tarporley formed part of the borough of Vale Royal, within Cheshire and was included in the new unitary authority of Cheshire West and Chester on 1 April 2009. The village has civil parish status and its own parish council, giving it some limited local government autonomy. The parish council comprises 12 locally elected members.

Tarporley is bypassed by the A49 and A51 roads. The village was once served by Beeston Castle and Tarporley railway station on the Chester to Crewe main line, more than two miles from the village; the line remains open but the station closed in April 1966. A local bus service, route 84, is provided by Arriva.

Marple is a small town within the Metropolitan Borough of Stockport, in Greater Manchester, England. It lies on the River Goyt 9 miles southeast of Manchester, 9 miles north of Macclesfield and 4 miles southeast of Stockport.

Historically in Cheshire, the town lies along the Peak Forest Canal, containing the Marple Lock Flight and Marple Aqueduct. The Roman Lakes to the southeast of the town centre attracts anglers and walkers. Marple is served by two railway stations, Marple and Rose Hill, providing access to the rail network in Greater Manchester and beyond. It is also close by the Middlewood Way, a cycle path following the former Macclesfield, Bollington and Marple Railway line south from Rose Hill to Macclesfield.

In the early 1900s the town prospered from the success of cotton in nearby Stockport and Manchester; the canals in the area served as a link with other industrial towns. In 1936, Marple Urban District, at the time part of Cheshire, annexed from Derbyshire the parish of Ludworth and Mellor. Marple grew as a residential suburb of Stockport after the arrival of frequent bus and rail services in the 1920s.

The area, close to Derbyshire, covers just over 11 square miles (28 km2) of countryside, ranging from heavily wooded valleys to hill-top moorland. It rises from around 262 feet (80 m) above sea level at the River Goyt to 1,073 feet (327 m) at Cobden Edge. On a clear day it is possible to view the Beetham Tower in Manchester as well as the city centre, the Winter Hill TV transmitter and the surrounding counties of Cheshire, Derbyshire, Lancashire and West Yorkshire and the mountains of North Wales from the top of these hills.

Since 1932 Marple has had a cinema in a building designed in 1878 as a place of worship or refuge. The building was purchased in 1932 by the Marple Cinema Company and became the Regent Cinema. It remains open as one of the few independent cinemas in the UK. The town has two brass bands, the Marple Band and the Hawk Green (Marple) Band.

Marple is notable for its series of 16 canal locks, known as Marple Lock Flight, close to the village centre. The Peak Forest Canal skirts the village, north running alongside Marple Memorial Park and Brabyns Park until it reaches the Marple Aqueduct and on to Dukinfield Junction, and south towards Bugsworth Basin. Macclesfield Canal meets the Peak Forest Canal at Marple Junction, and heads towards Birmingham. The two canals form part of the Cheshire Ring canal system; the canals served as a vital link during the Industrial Revolution. Nowadays they provide an area of relaxation for walkers, anglers and boaters.

The Roman Lakes leisure complex is popular with walkers, anglers, nature lovers and horse riders. It is located in the valley bottom close to Strines. The area was named in the Victorian era as an attraction to tourists not because it had links with the Romans (also true of Roman Bridge, a packhorse bridge over the Goyt). In the area closest to the river there was a mill built by Samuel Oldknow; it is now ruined and overgrown.

Marple Hall is located close to where Marple Hall School now stands. The remains of the hall can be explored, though very little remains. The hall was the ancestral home of the Bradshaws and passed to the Isherwoods. The town lies along the A626, which runs between Glossop and Heaton Chapel. It has a junction in the centre of Marple with the B6101, which heads south to New Mills.

Ellesmere Port is a large town and port in Cheshire, England, south of the Wirral. As well as a service sector economy, the town of Ellesmere Port has retained large industries including Stanlow oil refinery, a chemical works and the Vauxhall Motors car factory. There are also a number of tourist attractions: the National Waterways Museum, the Blue Planet Aquarium and Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet.

The town of Ellesmere Port was founded at the outlet of the never completed Ellesmere Canal. The canal now renamed was designed and engineered by William Jessop and Thomas Telford as part of a project to connect the rivers Severn, Mersey and Dee. Ellesmere Port, in more recent times has had an influx of Liverpool immigrants.

Since 1974 Ellesmere Port has been an unparished area when the civil parish of Ellesmere Port was abolished and all its functions assumed by the town. Ellesmere Port is located in the county of Cheshire.

Ellesmere Port railway station has a half-hourly electric train service to Chester and Liverpool. The Manchester Ship Canal joins the Mersey estuary north-west of Ellesmere Port at Eastham.

Beeston Castle is a former Royal castle in Beeston, Cheshire, England (grid reference SJ537593), perched on a rocky sandstone crag 350 feet (107 m) above the Cheshire Plain. It was built in the 1220s by Ranulf de Blondeville, 6th Earl of Chester, (1170–1232), on his return from the Crusades. In 1237, Henry III took over the ownership of Beeston, and it was kept in good repair until the 16th century, when it was considered to be of no further military use, although it was pressed into service again in 1643, during the English Civil War. The castle was slighted (partly demolished) in 1646, in accordance with Cromwell's destruction order, to prevent its further use as a stronghold.

46115 Scots Guardsman North Wales Coast Express BASH!!!!!!! Sunday 2nd August 2015

Hello and Welcome to a Harnetty Railway Special

Coming up we travel on the final steam charter trip out of Liverpool for the 2015 season behind David Smith's 46115 Scots Guardsman hauling Railway Touring Company's The North Wales Coast Express from Liverpool to Holyhead and back.

This tour was originally planned for Chris Beets Jubilee 45690 Leander to haul this trip but sadly her support crew were not available so 46115 stud in.

We start at Liverpool Lime Street were we see 47760 dragging the train from Crewe.

It was hear we board the train the filming for this trip is very different as I was travelling in 1st class in a chocolate and cream Pullman.

During the climb up Edge Hill we have a full 360 look of the interior of the Pullman thanks to the guys at West Coast of restoring the coach to its former glory.

The scot put in a fine performance as we accelerated along The Liverpool to Manchester Railway as far as Earlestown were we diverted to connect to Warrington and the Chester line via Frodsham which is were is our 1st water stop.

We left over 10 mins late following problems with the tanker but soon we were on our way to the final pick up point Chester.

Once on the north wales coast 46115 was given his head and boy the scot shone through the coast to the 2nd water stop Llandudno Junction.

This is were passengers opted to go to Llandudno town leave the train and get the shuttle service to the town down the branch line.

Then the heavens opened not ideal for filming and photographing once I got the shots I re-boarded the train. Soon we were on the move again for the final stop before Holyhead Bangor before the final stretch to our final destination.

On this day it was history in the making as it was the 1st time a member of The Royal Scot Class to have appeared in Holyhead since 1964.

After being turned and serviced we see the scot return from the triangle at Valley ready for the return run.

Soon it was time to go and we left right on time and straight away to a magnificent sound track of the 3 cylinder loco as the scot departed Holyhead the diesel at the rear was not required at all during the climb out of the station.

The sound track of the loco would go on for mile after mile. The return was more than impressive all the way despite the late running.

We were nearly 30 mins late by the time of the departure from the water stop at Llandudno Junction. With superb running along the coast 10 mins was made up by the time chester was reached and the 1st drop of the train.

Soon we press on to Frodsham the final water stop of the trip before we depart for warrington and the fast stretch of The Liverpool to Manchester line back towards Liverpool.

Not much filming was done in the dark and was blurring up.

With brilliant crewmen ship 16 mins was made up by the time Liverpool was reached.

Finally we see 46115 being dragged back to Carnforth Steamtown from Liverpool were we end this video.
