Xi'an Info:
Xi'an, is the capital of Shaanxi Province. A sub-provincial city on the Guanzhong Plain in northwest China, it is one of the oldest cities in China, and the oldest of the Four Great Ancient Capitals, having held the position under several of the most important dynasties in Chinese history, including Western Zhou, Qin, Western Han, Sui, and Tang. Xi'an is the starting point of the Silk Road and home to the Terracotta Army of Emperor Qin Shi Huang.
Since the 1990s, as part of the economic revival of inland China especially for the central and northwest regions, the city of Xi'an has re-emerged as an important cultural, industrial and educational centre of the central-northwest region, with facilities for research and development, national security and space exploration. Xi'an currently holds sub-provincial status, administering 9 districts and 4 counties. As of 2018 Xi'an has a population of 12,005,600, and the Xi'an–Xianyang metropolitan area a population of 12.9 million. It is the most populous city in Northwest China, as well as one of the three most populous cities in Western China, the other two being Chongqing and Chengdu. In 2012, it was named as one of the 13 emerging megacities, or megalopolises, in China

Xi'an Ancient Wall/Lacquer Factory-Xi'an, China (Private Tour + Historical Facts)
The Xi'an City Wall is the most well-preserved and intact part of the Chinese ancient city walls. It is also one of the largest and most intact ancient city wall structures in the world. Originally built in the Ming Dynasty(1368-1644), it's purpose was military fortification. The wall is 40 feet tall and runs for 8.5 miles.
Lacquer is a natural substance obtained from the lacquer tree. Raw lacquer, the sap of the tree, hardens after contact with the air. Lacquer trees take 3-5 years to mature to the point where they can be tapped for their sap. The tree is indigenous to China, and that is why China leads the world in lacquer resources.

I recently went on a 3 week trip to China with other students from my area and my Chinese teacher. We visited six cities. The first three cities, Beijing, Xi'An, & Shanghai, were part of a 9-day EF Tour. In the fourth city, Yuhuan, we visited our sister school in China and stayed with host families. In the final two cities, Hangzhou & Suzhou, we taught at english camps. I filmed a lot during the trip so I could make these videos! I hope you enjoyed :) Stay tuned for an outtakes video as well!

In February 2015, students from Fair Lawn High School had the incredible opportunity to travel with EF Tours halfway across the globe to immerse themselves in Chinese culture for a week. This is just a taste of the second part of their experience... set in the ancient capital of Xi'an in the western reaches of the country, as well as in Shanghai on China's eastern shorelines.

To all of my students -- it was wonderful to share my passion for travel with all of you. As Mark Twain is famously credited with saying:
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.
