WHERE TO SHOP IN CHINATOWN BANGKOK | Hidden Market In Chinatown, Bangkok, Thailand (Part 2)
Wondering where to shop in Chinatown, Bangkok? Well, there's a hidden market in Chinatown, Bangkok, Thailand.
This hidden market is so big, it feels endless. I thought the laneway was never going to end. It just kept on going and going and going.
The market was so long I had to separate it into 3 different parts.
This is one long stretch of laneway, that literally feels like it spans across 5 to 6 blocks.
I believe its bigger and better than Pratunam market, it just that not many tourists know about this place, except locals.
This market is not as popular with the tourist, cause it's hidden and not many people know about it. Even I didn't know about it.

BANGKOK CHINATOWN , Yaowarat Street / 2018 June
Chinatown is 10 minutes on foot from Hua Lamphong Subway Station.
In this corner there are Chinese-style shrines, Street Food which mixed Thai land and Chinese, and stalls line up.
It is a very interesting place in Bangkok.
Thai Street Food: The ULTIMATE Chinatown Bangkok Tour (เยาวราช) - Bangkok Day 9
Chinatown Bangkok (เยาวราช) is one of the best Thai street food areas of Bangkok. Download your free Bangkok food guide here:
On Day 9 of this Bangkok travel guide video series (2 Weeks in Bangkok) we spent the entire day eating Thai food in Yaowarat (เยาวราช), which is Chinatown Bangkok. There are some seriously amazing dishes to eat!
1:20 Thai Haeng (ร้านไท้เฮง) Restaurant - To begin out Thai street food tour in Chinatown we started at a restaurant called Thai Haeng (ร้านไท้เฮง), and to specifically eat a dish called suki ruam mit haeng (สุกี้รวมมิตรแห้ง), which is Thai style suki, the dry version. It included napa cabbage, some other vegetables and a mix of seafood and meat, all stir fried with mung bean noodles. It had the most amazing smoky flavor, and was served with a Thai sauce made with fermented soy. We also had a plate of khao man gai (ข้าวมันไก่), which is Thai style chicken rice.
6:28 Sampeng Market (สำเพ็ง) - Along with Thai street food, one of the most famous things about Yaowarat (เยาวราช) is the shopping - both for food shopping and things shopping. Sampeng Market (สำเพ็ง) is a long market that occupies a walking road within Bangkok and you can find all sorts of random things within the market - especially buttons and textiles.
Eeia Saey (ร้านเอียะแซ) coffee shop and Kan Kee Namdaothong (ร้านคั้นกี่น้ำเต้าทอง) Chinese health drink - After finishing a little bit of shopping on this food tour, we stopped at two different places to get a drink. One of them is an old school Bangkok Chinatown heritage coffee shop, and then we had a bitter health beverage that was so intense it almost made me shiver. We then just quickly stopped off at Wat Leng Noi Yee (วัดเล่งเน่ยยี่), one of the most well known Chinese temples in Bangkok.
10:51 Khao Gaeng Jek Puey (ข้าวแกงเจ๊กปุ้ย) - I wasn’t actually planning on eating here on this day food tour in Bangkok, but after passing it, I couldn’t resist sitting down for a quick plate of Thai rice and curry at Khao Gaeng Jek Puey (ข้าวแกงเจ๊กปุ้ย). I got my usual order of stir fried crab, and I also decided to have the panang curry as well. This is one of the best Thai street food stalls in Bangkok especially for the incredibly atmosphere. We continued walking through Talad Drok Itsara Nuphap (ตลาดตรอกอิสรานุภาพ) - a market in an alley.
15:07 Lek and Rut Seafood (ร้านเล็กกับรัตน์ซีฟู้ด) - When it comes to Thai food in Chinatown, seafood is one of the most popular choices. This time we ate at Lek and Rut Seafood (ร้านเล็กกับรัตน์ซีฟู้ด), which is right across the street from the other famous T and K seafood restaurant. We ordered some roasted prawns, and squid steamed in lime juice, garlic and chilies. The food was delicious!
21:56 Kuay Jab Nay Lek (ร้านก๋วยจั๊บนายเล็ก (อ้วน) - A Thai food trip to Chinatown wouldn’t be complete without a bowl of kuay jab tuk yang (ก๋วยจั๊บทุกอย่าง), which is a bowl of noodle rolls in a peppery broth. It’s one of the ultimate Thai dishes in Chinatown.
25:28 Hoy Kraeng Pa Jeen (หอยแครงป้าจิน) - To end the day of eating, at least for main street food stalls, we headed to Hoy Kraeng Pa Jeen (หอยแครงป้าจิน), a place that specializes in boiled blood cockles and mussels. They are some of the finest shellfish you’ll find anywhere in Bangkok, and this Thai street food stall has been around for over 50 years I believe. It’s an amazing place!
30:15 For dessert we had Khanom Pang Jao Gao (ขนมปังเจ้าเก่าเด็ดในเยาวราช), an incredibly popular place that specializes in grilled bread, and bua loy nam king (บัวลอยน้ำขิง), which is ginger soup and sesame dumplings.

101 Things To Do In Bangkok:
Chinatown Bangkok (เยาวราช), referred to locally as Yaowarat (same name of the street), is one of the most exciting places in the entire city.
The area is especially known for its vast supply of Thai and Chinese street food and restaurants, but Yaowarat is also home to countless gold stores, medicine and herbs dealers and markets that seem to go on forever. Exploring the narrow alleys and markets is a great way to get a feel for this lively area of Bangkok.
In the daytime, Chinatown Bangkok (เยาวราช) is home the Sampeng Market which is one of the city's busiest wholesale market for textiles, fabric and random trinkets. In the night, Charoen Krung road and Yaowarat road transforms into a street food paradise - some of the most famous stalls in the city.
My first stop is the famous Uan Pochana (ก๋วยจั๊บ อ้วนโภชนา) for a bowl of kuay jab (ก๋วยจั๊บน้ำใส) - rice noodle rolls in a porky soup with lots of innards. The soup is nicely peppery and really tasty.
After an appetizer (which was still an entire meal in itself), I cross over the street to T & K Seafood restaurant to order one of my favorite dishes: steamed fish in lemon and garlic sauce. T & K Seafood is not my absolute favorite restaurant, but due to its great location, it makes a convenient place to dine.
Last but not least, not trip to Chinatown Bangkok would be complete without a bowl of Thai Chinese style dessert. There are a number of different stalls and I chose one that served my all time favorite dessert known as bua loy nam king (ginger water with black sesame dumplings บัวลอยน้ำขิง).

The only fun to have during the evening in Chinatown is the dining experience. Chances are you’ll be disappointed if you are looking for proper clubs or bars in this part of town. However, the popular back packing district, Khao San Road, is near by if you fancy a drink and a dance. For alternative nightlife options, a quick and painless ride on MRT (underground) or BTS (Skytrain) will take you to all Bangkok’s best nightlife spots including Silom, Sukhumvit, and RCA.

BEST THAI CURRY IN BANGKOK | Jek Pui Curry, in Chinatown, Bangkok, Thailand
When they said this was the Best Thai Curry in Bangkok, they weren’t lying. Jek Pui Curry in Chinatown, Bangkok, Thailand is definitely the best Thai curry in Bangkok.
There is a long line of people queuing up for their curry daily, after having tried it myself, I can see why.
They don’t have any tables, but they have plenty of red chairs all lined up against the walls. Once you’ve ordered your dish, just pull out a red chair, sit and wait for your order.
Once the food arrives, you just sit and eat. Now that’s an interesting way to enjoy the Best Thai Curry in Bangkok, Thailand.

THAI STREET FOOD in Bangkok ♦ Chinatown on Yaowarat
Tonight we're taking you on a tasty journey through Bangkok's Chinatown on Yaowarat. Hope you come with an empty stomach because there is SO MUCH TO EAT! From various noodles to desserts, this street has got it all. Watch the video to see the munchies unfold :)
I've visited Chinatown BKK a couple times before during both the night and day. Today is my first time filming the area, so I'm excited to share the experience with you guys. I recommend stopping by on a weekend night when it's the most vibrant. There are things to enjoy during the daytime as well, such as the fresh market across Soi Yaowarat 11.
FYI: There are places selling Shark's Fin Soup. Please do not eat shark fin as finned sharks are often thrown back into the ocean alive, where they do not die peacefully: unable to swim properly and bleeding profusely, they suffocate or die of blood loss... Every year, humans kill an estimated 100 million sharks. Removing sharks in large numbers can have ripple effects that throw entire ecosystems out of balance (Smithsonian Institute). Read more here:

GOLD in CHINATOWN BANGKOK THAILAND - Yaowarat เยาวราชและพาหุรัด is Famous for Many Gold Shops
Yaowarat has been the home of gold and gem trading for a couple of centuries, and it is no wonder that some of the oldest buildings in the district are gold shops. Originally, the four tycoon gold shops were Seng Heng Li, Hua Seng Heng, Tung Jin Aeng and Tang To Kang. Now there are more than 130 gold shops along Yaowarat Road alone, which is why it is known as the Golden Road. Generally, the gold is of high standard (of approximately 23 karat gold) and most shops are a member of the Gold Merchants Association. As this district is out of the tourist eye, it is a lot safer to buy gems here than in other districts, but still be on the lookout for the gem scam. See the Stay safe section of the Bangkok page for more information about the scam and what to do once you've fallen for it.
Back on Yaowarat Road, walk further for 320 m, you will notice the archway of Traimitwitthayaram Temple (or Wat Traimit for short) on your left-hand side. The feature of this temple is the largest 5.5 ton gold Buddha image in the world whose name is Phra Sukhothai Traimit. This is an image of Buddha in the posture of subduing Mara made of pure gold. In the old days, this image was covered with plaster to hide it from the enemy invading Thailand at the end of the Ayutthaya period. Later, when the image was being moved to be enshrined in a new vihara, the covering plaster was accidentally broken, revealing the hidden radiance of gold.
A few months ago, I had a chance to explore the route of the one-day Walking Tour of Chinatown, Bangkok, and found it quite interesting. This area is one of the earliest Chinese communities in Thailand. It bears a lot of interesting aspects-history, architecture and commerce-which are worth promoting as a valuable heritage.
Realizing this, the River City Shopping Complex, the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and Samphanthawong District Office thus cooperated to launch this project of Walking Tour.
From the temple, walk to Wanit I Road and you will enter Sampheng shopping centre, an old Chinese community originally residing in the Grand Palace area but moved to outside the city wall by order of King Rama I who was establishing his capital at Rattanakosin Island in 1782. Various kinds of goods, mostly for wholesale, ranging from sewing instruments to souvenirs are available here. The narrow street is usually crowded like a marketplace.

Yaowarat and Phahurat (Thai: เยาวราชและพาหุรัด) is Bangkok's multicultural district, located west of Silom and southeast of Rattanakosin. Yaowarat Road is the home of Bangkok's sizable Chinese community, while those of Indian ethnicity have congregated around Phahurat Road. By day, Yaowarat doesn't look that much different from any other part of Bangkok, though the neighbourhood feels like a big street market and there are some hidden gems waiting to be explored. But at night, the neon signs blazing with Chinese characters are turned on and crowds from the restaurants spill out onto the streets, turning the area into a miniature Hong Kong (minus the skyscrapers). Phahurat is an excellent place for buying fabrics, accessories and religious paraphernalia. A visit to the area is not complete without having some of its amazing delicacies that sell for an absolute bargain — such as bird's nest or some Indian curries.
Many gold shops in Yaowarat, Bangkok's Chinatown, have no gold for sale after prices plunged below 20,000 baht recently, sparking a buying frenzy, Gold Traders Association chairman Jitti Tangsithpakdi said on Tuesday.
There's no gold to be sold because manufacturers can't produce the items quick enough [to meet the demand], said Mr Jitti, owner of Chin Hua Heng gold shop.
Some gold shops even confronted each other, competing to buy gold from sellers, he said.
He said investors with gold in hand should not sell at this time because prices would likely increase from now on, after the gold bar price earlier tumbled to 18,600 baht per baht-weight. I think gold prices will be about 23,000 to 24,000 baht by the end of this year, Mr Jitti said.

Bangkok Chinatown Info:
Bangkok's Chinatown is one of the largest Chinatowns in the world. It was founded in 1782 when the city was established as the capital of the Rattanakosin Kingdom, and served as the home of the mainly Teochew immigrant Chinese population, who soon became the city's dominant ethnic group. Originally centred around Sampheng, the core of Chinatown now lies along Yaowarat Road, which serves as its main artery and sometimes lends its name to the entire area, which is often referred to as Yaowarat (Thai: เยาวราช). Chinatown's entire area is roughly coterminous with Samphanthawong District, and includes neighbourhoods such as Song Wat and Talat Noi along the Chao Phraya River, and Charoen Chai, Khlong Thom and Nakhon Khasem along Charoen Krung Road.
Originally a wilderness area outside the city walls, Chinatown grew to become Bangkok's commercial hub throughout the late 19th to early 20th centuries, but has since declined in prominence as commercial activity moved elsewhere following the city's expansion. It now serves as a hub of Chinese culture, with numerous shops selling traditional goods, and is especially known as a gastronomic destination.
