Celebrating Chopin in Warsaw
In this video clip, I blindsided my wonderful Warsaw guide, Monika, when I asked her to show off Warsaw’s love of Chopin. Imagine having your own charming local guide like this one to show you how the benches play Chopin in the parks.
Every year I have a tradition of signing up for a Rick Steves tour in Europe. We have 35 or so itineraries, and the choice can be tough. I’ll tell you, right now, after lots of time in Eastern Europe this summer, I am tempted to take our Best of Eastern Europe tour in 2015.

Welcome to Poland everybody! This is our first experience here in this country and we are going to spend 48 hours in Warsaw to kick off this series.
After a few delays we finally arrived in Warsaw, so we checked into our hotel and headed out to the old town to get some Polish dumplings and traditional polish potatoe pancakes to end our first night.
The next day we headed out into the old town and saw
- Old Town Square
- Warsaw Castle
- University Campus of Warsaw library viewpoint
We then went up the bell tower in castle square which is a great view point to see the city. For lunch we headed out to the Koszyki Covered Market.
In the afternoon we headed out to The largest park in Warsaw Lazienki Krolewskie and went on a little water gondola ride.
To end our time in Warsaw we went out to the Nocny markets.

Warszawa Chopina (Chopin's Warsaw)
„Chopin`s Warsaw is a filmic journey around the city of Warsaw in the company of Frycek. That`s the name that was given to Fryderyk Chopin in his youth by his friends and family. See Warsaw, past and present, through his eyes. Discover the city where Poland`s greatest composer spent his youth.

The Warsaw Uprising was a struggle by the Polish Home Army to liberate Warsaw from Nazi German occupation during World War II. The Uprising began on 1 August 1944, as part of a nationwide rebellion, Operation Tempest. It was intended to last for only a few days until the Soviet Army reached the city. The Soviet advance stopped short, however, while Polish resistance against the German forces continued for 63 days until the Polish surrendered on 2 October.
The Uprising began as the Soviet Army approached Warsaw. The main Polish objectives were to drive the German occupiers from the city and help with the larger fight against Germany and the Axis powers. Secondary political objectives were to liberate Warsaw before the arrival of the Soviet Army, to underscore Polish sovereignty and to undo the division of Central Europe into spheres of influence by the Allied powers. The insurgents aimed to reinstate Polish authorities before the Soviet Polish Committee of National Liberation could assume control.
Initially, the Poles seized substantial areas of the city, but the Soviets did not advance beyond the city's borders until mid-September. Inside the city, bitter fighting between the Germans and Poles continued. By 16 September, Soviet forces had reached a point a few hundred meters from the Polish positions, across the Vistula River, but they made no further headway during the Uprising, leading to allegations that the Soviet leader Joseph Stalin had wanted the insurrection to fail so that the Soviet occupation of Poland would be uncontested.
Although the exact number of casualties remains unknown, it is estimated that about 16,000 Polish insurgents were killed and about 6,000 badly wounded. In addition, between 150,000 and 200,000 civilians died, mostly from mass murders conducted by troops fighting on the German side. German casualties totaled over 16,000 soldiers killed and 9,000 wounded. During the urban combat approximately 25% of Warsaw's buildings were destroyed. Following the surrender of Polish forces, German troops systematically leveled 35% of the city block by block. Together with earlier damage suffered in the invasion of Poland (1939) and the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising (1943), over 85% of the city was destroyed by January 1945, when the Soviets finally entered the city.

25 Things to do in Warsaw, Poland | Top Attractions Tourism Guide Video Transcript:
Well hello and welcome to Warszawa. This week we are exploring the Polish capital. We've already been here a few days and it has been amazing. It has been such a pleasant surprise and unlike any part of Europe we've traveled in so far. So yeah, this week we're going to be highlighting 25 things to do around the city and we're excited to show you what it is all about.
We came to Warsaw with little to no expectations and the city completely surprised us. Our week in the capital was spent sampling Polish cuisine, learning about the city's past through museums and historical tours, and also dabbling in a bit of the nightlife. Warsaw is quickly rising through the ranks and we think it won't be long before travellers are flocking en masse. So if you're planning a trip to Poland, don't skip over the capital because there is more to Warsaw than meets the eye.
This is part of our Travel in Poland series. We're making a series of videos showcasing Polish culture, Polish arts, Polish foods, Polish religion, Polish cuisine and Polish people.

Warsaw (Poland) | July 2015
In this video, you can see a lot of photos I took while I was in Warsaw, on the days 21, 22 and 28 (29th I back Spain).
That year, I joined a trip to Poland, being this city one of those I visited.
To sum up, I've to say Warsaw is the most beautiful visited city in Poland.
Chopin Museum in Warsaw & Chopin's Birthplace in Żelazowa Wola
The Fryderyk Chopin Museum in Warsaw is located in the baroque Ostrogski Castle on the Vistula embankment. It is home to the world’s largest collection of Chopiniana, comprising autographs, notes, letters, manuscripts and objects once belonging to the composer. At the same time, thanks to its innovative approach to the subject of Chopin’s life and work and the use of multimedia technologies, it is one of the most modern biographical museums in Europe. Besides the permanent display, the museum also offers temporary exhibitions and a wide range of educational activities for both children and adults. The branch of the museum is The Fryderyk Chopin’s Birthplace in Żelazowa Wola.
The Fryderyk Chopin Museum is part of the Fryderyk Chopin Institute – a cultural institution responsible for such major events as the International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition and the International Music Festival ‘Chopin and his Europe’.
--------------------------------------
