#CHRISTMAS | 600 refugees spend Christmas at the Methodist Church
A group of about 600 refugees are celebrating their first Christmas inside the Methodist Church adjacent to Greenmarket Square in the Cape Town CBD. The refugees have been taking shelter in the Central Methodist Church on the square since the end of October. They had been evicted from outside the offices of the UN High Commission for Refugees. Our reporter Mariska Botha is there, lets cross to her.

Cape Town Central
Cape Town has always prided itself on its rich cultural heritage, reflected in a wide variety of arts and cultural events, diverse architecture and food and wine of internationals repute; all available right in the inner city area.
The Central Business District of Cape Town is situated at the foot of iconic Table Mountain, facing north over Table Bay and the working harbour that first gave shelter to 17th century ships as they travelled the trade routes between Europe and the East.
Because the CBD covers less than one square mile, a walking tour such as Footsteps to Freedom is to be recommended. All 350 years of South Africa's history is covered in less than four hours.
The Castle of Good Hope, once at the water edge is now the eastern boundary of the city centre. On the western edge on the slopes of Signal Hill, is the colourful Bo-Kaap area, originally the designated living area of the Malay labourers, who were been brought to the Cape as political prisoners during the Dutch East India Company's presence in Cape Town in the 17th century.
But even though Cape Town is an old City, the modern architecture of the CBD is seldom jarring and includes several award winning designs.
There is accommodation in the CBD to suit all budgets, from 5star splendour to Backpackers specials.

The Western Cape Health department says it cannot yet confirm an outbreak of chicken pox at the Central Methodist Church in Cape Town, where more than 800 foreign nationals are being sheltered. They have been living inside the church since October after they were removed from outside the nearby office of the UN High Commission for Refugees.

EXPLORING historic NOBEL SQUARE, CAPE TOWN (South Africa)
SUBSCRIBE: - In your wanderings around the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town, you might come across four larger-than-life bronzed gentlemen standing pensively in a row. They are the central characters of Nobel Square, dedicated to South Africa’s four Nobel Peace Prize laureates: Albert Luthuli, Desmond Tutu, FW de Klerk and Nelson Mandela. These great men all played their part in helping South Africa to democracy after decades of apartheid. Vic Stefanu, vstefanu@yahoo.com. Cape Town is a coastal city in South Africa. It is the second most populous urban area in South Africa, after Johannesburg. It is also the provincial capital and primate city of the Western Cape. As the seat of the National Parliament it is also the legislative capital of the country
Cape Town's Greenmarket Square traders unhappy with squatting refugees
Traders on Cape Town's Greenmarket Square say their businesses are in dire straits due to the pavement squatting of refugees. A group of around 600 refugees have been taking shelter in the Central Methodist church on the square since the end of October. This after they were evicted from nearby offices of the United Nations High Commissioner on Refugees. A meeting between the Traders Association and refugee leaders this morning appears to have averted a potential confrontation.
