Howler Monkeys of Manglares Churute
A local guide and I took one of my program managers on a tour of Manglares Churute. We had great luck! As soon as we got out of the car ready for a hike we encountered a large family of Howler Monkeys directly over the road. There were three males and their harem. In total there were about 30. I've never seen such a large family so close and in such perfect viewing conditions. The road allowed for us to be directly under them. PS. I'm well aware the quality of the video is subpar, this is just to share the experience y nada mas!

This not so professional video was taken in Manglares Churute, Guayas, Ecuador. After living here for a year and a half I finally had the chance to go to Isla de los Ingleses to see dolphins in the mangrove forest. Of course, this video does not do the experience justice.

This beautiful region is a labyrinth of mangrove islands where dwell the characters from the stories we hear narrated by the people for the communities. La Tunda y el Riviel son criaturas míticas de la tradición Oral Afroecuatoriana. La Tunda and the Riviel are mythical creatures in the oral traditions of Afroecuadorians. They live near the rivers. The Riviel is a characterized by a dim blue light and the the Tunda takes the form of women who are dear to us. Both, want to take you away into the world of demons.
