La Cattedrale di San Basilio MOSCA Instrumental MUSIC
The Cathedral of Vasily the Blessed (Russian: Собор Василия Блаженного), commonly known as Saint Basil's Cathedral, is a former church in Red Square in Moscow, Russia. The building, now a museum, is officially known as the Cathedral of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos on the Moat (Russian: Собор Покрова пресвятой Богородицы, что на Рву) or Pokrovsky Cathedral (Russian: Покровский собор). It was built from 1555–61 on orders from Ivan the Terrible and commemorates the capture of Kazan and Astrakhan. A world famous landmark, it has been the hub of the city's growth since the 14th century and was the city's tallest building until the completion of the Ivan the Great Bell Tower in 1600.
The original building, known as Trinity Church and later Trinity Cathedral, contained eight side churches arranged around the ninth, central church of Intercession; the tenth church was erected in 1588 over the grave of venerated local saint Vasily (Basil). In the 16th and 17th centuries the church, perceived as the earthly symbol of the Heavenly City, as happens to all churches in Byzantine Christianity, was popularly known as the Jerusalem and served as an allegory of the Jerusalem Temple in the annual Palm Sunday parade attended by the Patriarch of Moscow and the tsar
The building is shaped as a flame of a bonfire rising into the sky, a design that has no analogues in Russian architecture. Dmitry Shvidkovsky, in his book Russian Architecture and the West, states that it is like no other Russian building. Nothing similar can be found in the entire millennium of Byzantine tradition from the fifth to fifteenth century ... a strangeness that astonishes by its unexpectedness, complexity and dazzling interleaving of the manifold details of its design. The cathedral foreshadowed the climax of Russian national architecture in the 17th century.
As part of the program of state atheism, the church was confiscated from the Russian Orthodox community as part of the Soviet Union's anti-theist campaigns and has operated as a division of the State Historical Museum since 1928.[14] It was completely and forcefully secularized in 1929[14] and remains a federal property of the Russian Federation. The church has been part of the Moscow Kremlin and Red Square UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1990. It is often mislabelled as the Kremlin owing to its location on Red Square in immediate proximity of the Kremlin.

Siberia Drone Flight: Siberia is a vast Russian province encompassing most of Northern Asia, with terrain spanning tundra, coniferous forest and mountain ranges including the Ural, Altai and Verkhoyansk. Lake Baikal, in its south, is the worlds deepest lake, circled by a network of hiking paths called the Great Baikal Trail. The Trans-Siberian Railway passes Baikal on its route between Moscow and the Sea of Japan. Lake Baikals largest island, Olkhon, is a center of shamanism marked by Shaman Rock, an outcropping held sacred by indigenous islanders. The city of Irkutsk, the western gateway to Baikal, offers classical Russian architecture and Russian Orthodox churches. The Altai Mountains are river-rafting and mountaineering destinations with diverse wildlife and ecosystems. The Siberian Traps, a region of stairlike hills formed by ancient volcanoes, include Putorana Nature Reserve, which protects lakes and animals like reindeer and snow sheep. Novosibirsk, Siberias largest city, houses wood-lace buildings and the State Art Museum. // Irkutsk is a city on the Angara River in eastern Siberia, Russia. The river embankment is lined with hurches, including the Epiphany Cathedral (Sobor Bogoyavleniya), with gilded onion domes, and the Spasskaya Church, with its soaring bell tower. The restored neoclassical Moskovskie Vorota arch is also by the water. Near Kirov Square, the Irkutsk Regional Art Museum has ancient icons and more recent Russian artworks. // Ulan-Ude is a city in East Siberia, Russia. The main square Ploshchad Sovetov is home to the huge Lenin Head Monument. The City History Museum is set within the former house of a tea merchant. Nearby is the 18th-century Odigitrievsky Cathedral. To the north, Datsan Rinpoche Bagsha is a Buddhist temple with gilded stupas and sweeping city views. The outdoor Ethnographic Museum displays traditional Buryat wooden yurts. [wikipedia // Google]

A note on 'Ivan the Terrible' - in Russia, Ivan IV has the epithet 'Гро́зный' meaning 'Great' or 'Formidable'. So why is he known as Ivan 'the Terrible' in English? Because he was evil or useless or because of anti-Russian bias? No, because 'Terrible' in English also means awesome or formidable - this was well understood when 'Гро́зный' was first translated into English centuries ago, but now fewer people understand this. (see definitions 3 & 4 here: The name stuck, and Ivan IV has been known as Ivan the Terrible ever since.

* 인구:11,971,664명 (2014 추계)
○ Brief introduction to Moscow
* Area: 1,035㎢
* Population: 11,971,664 (2014 )
Moscow, the capital of Russia, is Russia's largest city and the fourth largest city in the world with the largest population in Europe.
It was the capital of the Russian Empire from the 14th century to the beginning of the 18th century.
After the revolution, the Russian capital was moved here from St. Petersburg in 1918 and became the Soviet capital with the birth of the Soviet Union in 1922. After the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, it became the capital of Russia.
River meanders between towns northwest and southwestThe Moscow
The river was narrower than the Han River in Korea, and the water was also blurred than the Han River.
Inside the walls of the Kremlin are some of the world's most beautiful churches and palaces.
Surrounding the cathedral square are three magnificent cathedrals that show the essence of the Russian church architecture, which peaked in the late 15th and early 16th centuries.
The Assumption Cathedral (Uspenski Sobor), made of white stone, is the oldest and was built in Italian-Byzantine style from 1475-79.
The Red Square, the center of all ceremonies in Moscow, stretches along the eastern wall of the Kremlin and the Lenin Mausoleum is just below the wall.
Folkowski-Sobor, a church at the southern end of the Red Square, is better known as the Blessed St. Basilius Cathedral (St. Basil's Cathedral).
This unique and magnificent cathedral was built in 1554-60 in honor of Ivan IV defeating the Tatars (Mongols) in Kazan and Astrakhan.
There is a national department store (GUM) opposite the Kremlin with the Red Square in between, and the National Museum of History (1875 ~ 83) at the northern end of the square.

St. Basil's Cathedral in Moscow, Russia
The Cathedral of Vasily the Blessed, commonly known as Saint Basil's Cathedral, is a church in Red Square in Moscow, Russia and is one of the most popular symbols of the country. The building, now a museum, is officially known as the Cathedral of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos on the Moat or Pokrovsky Cathedral. It was built from 1555–1561 on orders from Ivan the Terrible and commemorates the capture of Kazan and Astrakhan. It was the city's tallest building until the completion of the Ivan the Great Bell Tower in 1600. The Saint Basil's Cathedral is not to be confused with the Moscow Kremlin.
The original building, known as Trinity Church and later Trinity Cathedral, contained eight churches arranged around a ninth, central church of Intercession; a tenth church was erected in 1588 over the grave of venerated local saint Vasily (Basil). In the 16th and 17th centuries, the church, perceived (as with all churches in Byzantine Christianity) as the earthly symbol of the Heavenly City, was popularly known as the Jerusalem and served as an allegory of the Jerusalem Temple in the annual Palm Sunday parade attended by the Patriarch of Moscow and the tsar.

As part of the program of state atheism, the church was confiscated from the Russian Orthodox community as part of the Soviet Union's anti-theist campaigns and has operated as a division of the State Historical Museum since 1928. It was completely secularized in 1929 and remains a federal property of the Russian Federation. The church has been part of the Moscow Kremlin and Red Square UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1990. It is not actually within the Kremlin, but often served as a visual metonym for Russia in western media throughout the Cold War and to the modern day.
12 Facts About Saint Basil’s Cathedral
Originally constructed in the mid-16th century, Saint Basil’s Cathedral looms majestically near the Kremlin in Moscow, Russia, and has stood watch over countless historical and political events in the country’s history.
1. IT WAS BUILT BY IVAN THE TERRIBLE.
The first Tsar of Russia, Ivan Vasilyevich—also known as Ivan Grozny (a nickname meaning “sparking terror or fear,” or stern), Ivan IV, and the Grand Prince of Moscow—ordered the construction of the cathedral in 1554. Ivan, grandson of Ivan the Great, saw the cathedral’s completion in 1561, but upon his death was interred at the nearby Archangel Cathedral.
2. THE CATHEDRAL WAS CONSTRUCTED IN HONOR OF A MILITARY CONQUEST.
Ivan’s goal of military dominance over a central Russian state led to numerous conflicts during his reign. In the 1550s, his armies defeated the independent Tatar khanates of Kazan and Astrakahn, and the church was built in honor of those victories.
3. IVAN ALLEGEDLY BLINDED THE CATHEDRAL'S ARCHITECT.
Stories and myths abound of Ivan’s raging temper, one of which involves him purposefully blinding the cathedral’s (unnamed) Italian architect so that its design could never be replicated. Other legends state that the architects were a pair of Russians named Barma and Posnik, or that they may have been one person.
4. MANY NAMES HAVE GRACED THE CATHEDRAL.
Dedicated to the protection of the Virgin Mary, the church is officially known as the Church of the Intercession, or the Cathedral of the Intercession of the Virgin on the Moat. It has also been called Pokrovsky Cathedral, Pokrovsky Sobor, and Svyatoy Vasily Blazhenny.
5. IT WAS EVENTUALLY NAMED FOR A RUSSIAN 'FOOL.'
Born in 1468, Basil (also called the Blessed, the Beatific, and the Wonderworker of Moscow) was the son of commoners and was trained to be a cobbler. He became known for his prophetic powers and for being a “fool for Christ,” and following his death in 1557 was buried in the cathedral that would take its name after him.

Volgograd Travel Guide - Russia Magical Experience
Volgograd Travel Guide - Russia Magical Experience
Volgograd used to be called Stalingrad. It lies along the west bank of the Volga River in Southern Russia. It was the scene of one of the most important and bloodiest battles of the Second World War. The Battle of Stalingrad in World War II was one of the largest and bloodiest battles in the history of warfare. Known locally as the Hero City, it is home to The Motherland Calls, an 85 meter statue dedicated to the heroes of the battle. The city also has many tourist attractions, such as museums, sandy beaches, and a self-propelled floating church.
Volgograd has a humid continental climate with moderate rainfall throughout the year measuring 406mm (15 inches on average). The city has large seasonal variations, due to its very strong continentality. Winters are cold (though above average for Russian standards) and the average February temperature is -6.6°C (20.1°F) while highs usually remain below freezing and lows hover around -10°C (13°F). There is nothing to protect the city from the freezing winds originating in the interior of Siberia and temperatures may fall down to -20°C (-4°F). Snow is a common sight during these months, but westerly winds are able to raise temperatures above freezing allowing rain to fall on average 6 days in January. The lowest recorded temperature is -33°C (-27°F). Summers on the other hand range from pleasantly warm to hot on some days. The average July temperature is 23.7°C (74.7°F).
Volgograd's public transport system includes a light rail service known as the Volgograd Metrotram. Volgograd is a major railway junction served by the Privolzhskaya Railway. Rail links from the Volgograd railway station include Moscow; Saratov; Astrakhan; the Donbas region of Ukraine; the Caucasus and Siberia. Local public transport is provided by buses, trolleybuses and trams. The Volga River still is a very important communication channel. The Volgograd International Airport provides air links to major Russian cities as well as Antalya, Yerevan and Aktau.
A memorial complex commemorating the battle of Stalingrad, dominated by an immense allegorical sculpture The Motherland Calls, was erected on the Mamayev Kurgan, the hill that saw some of the most intense fighting during the battle. At 85 metres it is almost twice the height of the Statue of Liberty in New York.
The Panorama Museum sited on the Volga contains artifacts from World War II. These include a panoramic painting of the battlefield from the location of the monument on Mamayev Kurgan. A rifle of the famous sniper Vasily Zaytsev is also on display. The Musical Instrument Museum is a branch of the Volgograd regional Museum of local lore.

the tram system in astrakhan, russia was totally closed in 2007. The tram tracks started to fade away in 2004.
Officially trams are totally gone in Astrakhan, Ivanovo and Voronezh. As of the summer of 2010 there are no more trams in Ryazan...
Trams are getting deleted in Kaliningrad, Moscow, St Petersburg, Kazan and many many other Russian cities. While the rest of the world builds more tram systems (even asia!) Russia destroys it's own.
