UK Lends Russia Ancient Statue: British Museum loans St. Petersburg 2,500 year old masterpiece
The British Museum has lent one of its contested Elgin Marbles to Russia.
It's the first time the 2,500 year old sculptures have left Britain since they were taken from the Parthenon in Athens 200 years ago. Despite the deepening dispute between Moscow and the international community over Ukraine, museum officials say the decision to lend the statues to the State Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg is just a normal business choice.

Parthenon sculpture loaned to Russia by the British Museum in St Petersburg
Parthenon Marbles arrived in Russia on Friday, marking the first time in 200 years that any of the ancient sculptures has left Britain.
The move by the British Museum to loan the marbles to Russia's Hermitage Museum outraged Greece, which has demanded that the marbles be permanently returned.
The marble sculpture of the river god Ilissos - a reclining male figure from the west pediment of the Parthenon - will be part of a major exhibition on Greek art being held as the Hermitage marks its 250th anniversary.
The loan runs from 6 December to 18 January.
The sculptures are at the heart of one of the world's most famous cultural heritage disputes.
The marbles decorated the Parthenon temple on the Acropolis for more than 2,000 years, but were removed at the beginning of the 19th century by Scottish nobleman Thomas Bruce, the 7th Earl of Elgin, when it was fashionable for the aristocracy to collect ancient art.

Russia: The Bronze Horseman Monuments in St Petersburg
The Bronze Horseman Monuments in St Petersburg. The St.Petersburg or Bronze Horse Rider's founding monument was created by the French sculptor Étienne Maurice Falconet in 1782. The Bronze Horse Rider's name comes from the same name poem written by Aleksander Pushkin (1833).
The Bronze Monument This Horseman symbolizes Russia's victory over Sweden in the North War (1700-1721): the snake symbolizes the defeated enemy, the horse symbolizes Russia. The base of this monument is the so-called thunderstone, which was sent to the Senate Square from a small town of Lakhta.

SAINT PETERSBURG - Hermitage and Palace Square
Palace Square is the central city square of St Petersburg.
The most celebrated building on the square, the baroque white-and-azure Winter Palace.
The Winter Palace was, from 1732 to 1917, the official residence of the Russian monarchs. Today, the restored palace forms part of a complex of buildings housing the Hermitage Museum.
Although the adjacent buildings are designed in the Neoclassical style, they perfectly match the palace in their scale, rhythm, and monumentality.
In the centre of the square stands the Alexander Column. This red granite column (the tallest of its kind in the world) is 47.5 metres high and weighs some 500 tons. It is set so well that it requires no attachment to the base.

Bees find new home atop art museum in St. Petersburg
Matt Davis and his wife, Allison are in the business of rescuing bees. They're the owners of Noble Nectar Apiaries in St. Petersburg. Where others see pests, they see potential - and with good reason.
Now, with the help of the Museum of Fine Art St. Petersburg, Noble Nectar is expanding. The museum's rooftop may seem like an improbable place for an apiary, but now it's home to a colony of Matt's bees, which are ready to go out and pollinate St. Petersburg.

Amazing Saint Petersburg During Winter. Hermitage - the world's most spectacular museum.
Amazing Saint Petersburg During Christmas is one of the biggest cities as in Russia as in the whole world. It is a very popular Russian travel destination and it is also in the top of ten world cities that travelers from all over the world visit the most. Saint Petersburg is a young city. It was built a little bit more than three hundred years ago, but by its beauty and rich history, it can argue with the greatest European cities.
Petersburg is a cultural capital of Russia and of course there are many places of interest are centered here. All of them are worth visiting. There are museums and palaces, parks and gardens, monuments and sculptures, galleries and theatres. Hermitage is the most famous and well known among all sights of Saint Petersburg. Hermitage is called a treasure of worlds art. It is a huge complex that consists of five buildings combined with passages. In Petersburg, people say if you want to be acquainted with all hermitage collections, the whole life is not enough.. There are many beautiful churches and temples in Saint Petersburg too. The Spilled on the Blood is one of the youngest and most interesting masterpieces of architecture and always attracts tourists attention. Sparkling on the sun its multicoloured domes beckon from afar.
Russian mosaic work decorates its facade and interiors, and standing in front of it one can hardly believe that it used to be a vegetable storage during the Siege of Leningrad, one of the darkest pages in the history of this divine city.
Saint Petersburg is a museum in the open air and whenever you decide to come here city is marvelous in every season.
The most spectacular action in Petersburg during this period is bridges opening. Navigation gets started along the river Neva since the beginning of April. Every day more and more people, both tourists and Petersburgers hurrying up on the rivers embankment for feasting their eyes with this beautiful spectacle.
Directly from the city centre boats and little ships will whirl you away on the fascinating trip through Petersburg rivers and channels. You will float under numerous bridges and, sliding by the most beautiful mansions, you will admire reflexions of their facades on the water. Then you will understand why Petersburg is often called the Northern Venice. Do not miss a chance to make one more water excursion by the steam-ship. It delivers you in a place which name is Peterhof or Russian Versailles. There you can admire magnificence of palaces and have a walk in the glorious garden famous for its fountains. This city on the bank of the Finnish gulf has been constructed as Peter's summer residence where the Russian tsar accepted the most honourable guests from Europe. Be not afraid to travel Russia in winter! Reject all stereotypes that Russian winter is as cold as on Northern pole and polar bears hide behind each snowdrift. If you take a risk and will come to Saint Petersburg in the winter you are the lucky beggar! Colds here the same as well as in any European capital but to see the city covered with snow it is truly delightful! The white city looks mysteriously and majestic! For those who arrive in winter there is a unique chance to participate in an Old Russian entertainment riding on a sledge or Russian Troika. The harnessed of three horses take you for a ride on the big sledge painted in traditionally Russian style. The fervent ring of the bells tied to a bridle, will be your accompanying music. You will receive much of pleasure and fun from this trip.
The memories about a snow-covered city remain with you for a long time. The photos were made in the trip you can show to the relatives and friends with a great pride!
