Snow brings tricky driving conditions to Northern Ireland
The Met Office has issued another weather warning for ice across most of the country - from 6pm tonight until 11am tomorrow - amid an alert for further snow above 650ft (200m) and told motorists to take extra care. The first heavy snowfall of winter caused at least 125 crashes in Scotland in one day, as pedestrians were warned to take care to avoid slipping over on ice. Today is expected to be the chilliest day of the week for many areas, with parts of northern England waking up to temperatures of -6C (21F) and coastal areas set for more snow and sleet showers throughout the day. Pictured today: A couple go for a walk in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire (top left), snow-topped houses in Horwich, Greater Manchester (bottom left), cross-country skiers on the pristine snow in Teesdale, County Durham (top right), and a cyclist at Richmond Park in South West London (bottom right).

From the Cliff Austin Album, Belfast To Nashville.
Cliff a singer songwriter from Coventry, England, is popular on the Irish and English country music scenes, both as a performer and a songwriter, penning songs for Irish artists like Curtis Magee and Barry Doyle.
I was inspired to write this song after reading about the plight of the Titanic's little sister ship , The Nomadic, which returned to it's home in Belfast for the first time since leaving Harland and Wolff along with the Titanic in 1912.
After a colourful 95 year history, it was towed home in a sad state of repair after being saved from the scrap heap (not for the first time either)
The Belfast City Council purchased it in 2006 at an auction in Paris, where it had been used as a floating restaurant on the river Sienne, near the Eifel Tower.
As I read it's touching story on Nomadic Belfast.com, I shed a tear or two and understood for the first time how sailors become attached to their ship, often referring to them as if they were a person.
In it's lifetime, The Nomadic ferried American troops to safety around the coast of France during WW1, helped evacuate British soldiers from Le Harve during WW2, served as a coastal vessel and minelayer in the English channel and served the luxury Queen Elizabeth Cunard Line until 1968.
As a sailor might, I imagined how the ship would feel on returning home for the first time in 94 years.
It would have been an emotional journey down Belfast Lough, the sight of Cavehill, Belfast Castle nestling in the hills, then Clarendon Dock, Harland and Wolff, The Albert Clock, Queens Island and Queens bridge.
If ships could cry, there's no doubt The Nomadic would have shed tears of joy as it slowly sailed down Belfast Lough, home at last.
I imagined too, an immigrant, sailing down Belfast Lough after a lifetime away from Home would feel just the same and hopefully I've captured that feeling in the words and production of this song.
My thanks to Cliff for choosing to record the song and for a great vocal as always. Thanks also to Chris Blair from Bangor, Co. Down who first recorded the song.
You can read the full story of The Nomadic at nomadicbelfast.com and maybe make a contribution to it's restoration while there.

Myths of Belfast Interview 1 - The Decline of Sailortown
Interview 1 of 7 conducted for my PhD research looking at the development of 20th Century Belfast and the formation of Urban Identity. This one concerns the Sailortown area of Belfast, a thriving civic quarter which was decimated by the motorway plans of the 1960s.
