Clifton Park in Rotherham
Clifton Park was once the home to the Walker Family. Living in the building which today houses the museum*, the council bought the land and opened it up in 1893.
Rides first appeared in Clifton Park in the 1950's. The park has never had anything on a large scale, but the handful of rides are very popular in the local area.
Clifton Park rides operate on a token based system with 1 token required to ride each ride, except for the Dodgems which requires 2 tokens per car. Tokens are priced at 70p each, 11 for £7, 23 for £14 and 48 for £28, so the more you buy, the more you save.
*Clifton Park Museum is a medium-sized municipal museum situated in Clifton House on the western edge of Clifton Park in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, England. It is one of several publicly owned museums and visitor attractions administered by the Metropolitan Borough of Rotherham and is the headquarters of the Museums, Galleries and Heritage Service.

Rotherham is a large town in South Yorkshire, England, which together with its conurbation and outlying settlements to the north, south and south-east forms the Metropolitan Borough of Rotherham.
Rotherham central area is on the banks of the River Don below its confluence with the Rother on the traditional road between Sheffield and Doncaster. Rotherham is today the largest town in a contiguous area with Sheffield, informally known as the Sheffield Urban Area and is as such an economic centre for many of Sheffield's suburbs — Sheffield City Centre is 5.6 miles (9.0 km) from Rotherham town centre.
Rotherham in great part occupies the slopes of two hills; that in the west is the start of a 3 miles (4.8 km) north-west crest topped by Keppels Column, that in the east is a narrower crest alongside the Rother known as Canklow Hill, topped by a protected formally laid out public area, Boston Park, less than 500 east of and 80 metres above the Rother.

The Rhinoceros Vase of Clifton Park Museum
The record breaking Clifton Park Museum is one of the most modern and user-friendly museums in Britain. It has been twice nominated museum of the year and features famous exhibits such as Nelson the Lion and the breath-taking Rhinoceros Vase, the first ever porcelain vase cast in one piece! Joyce Williams, who is on the museum board, once again played tour guide for Mel and myself.
The Rhinoceros Vase was made in 1826 at the Rockingham Works near Swinton, four miles north of Rotherham. The ceramics industry was very important in South Yorkshire because the geology of the landscape, with its good clay deposits close to waterways, made production easy. So-called because of the stylised gilded porcelain rhinoceros on the vase, the Rhinoceros Vase is 1.2m high and weighs over 50kg. It was claimed to be the largest item of porcelain fired in one piece anywhere in England, and was made to demonstrate the manufacturing and artistic skills of the potters at the factory. The vase is richly decorated with painted enamel panels showing scenes from the story of Don Quixote and botanical specimens, with oak leaves and acorns applied with burnished and chased gilding.

This video is about me and one of my friends completing a short little walk around Clifton Park in Rotherham. We didn't have time for our usual Sunday walk, so we decided give this park a go for the first time. At least we still got out the house and did some exercise. This is just one of a series of weekly walks I'm doing as part of the exercise, I'm completing in order to help lose my excess weight.
