Royal Arcade Southport
One of Southport's most celebrated sights is Lord Street, a Victorian canopied boulevard edged in scenic gardens. With a charming, unique style all of its own, Lord Street has been a favourite shopping destination for over a century.
Speciality shops and designer boutiques are just a stones throw from the street’s picturesque and leafy gardens - the ideal place to unwind whilst still in the hub of the town. Right at Lord Street’s heart is Wayfarers Shopping Arcade, open since 1898. This Grade II listed building boasts a stunning glass-domed roof, impressive period décor and a range of over 30 exclusive stores. Their café and restaurant offer the perfect setting to soak up the Arcade’s atmosphere.
The Royal Arcade at the south end of Lord Street is the ideal place to continue the nostalgia. Brimming with antiques and collectables, bargain hunters can while away the hours seeking out extraordinary wares.
Suspense: Mister Markham, Antique Dealer / The ABC Murders / Sorry, Wrong Number - East Coast
One of the premier drama programs of the Golden Age of Radio, was subtitled radio's outstanding theater of thrills and focused on suspense thriller-type scripts, usually featuring leading Hollywood actors of the era. Approximately 945 episodes were broadcast during its long run, and more than 900 are extant.
Suspense went through several major phases, characterized by different hosts, sponsors, and director/producers. Formula plot devices were followed for all but a handful of episodes: the protagonist was usually a normal person suddenly dropped into a threatening or bizarre situation; solutions were withheld until the last possible second; and evildoers were usually punished in the end.
In its early years, the program made only occasional forays into science fiction and fantasy. Notable exceptions include adaptations of Curt Siodmak's Donovan's Brain and H. P. Lovecraft's The Dunwich Horror, but by the late 1950s, such material was regularly featured.
Words at War: The Hide Out / The Road to Serfdom / Wartime Racketeers
Friedrich August Hayek CH (8 May 1899 -- 23 March 1992), born in Austria-Hungary as Friedrich August von Hayek, was an economist and philosopher best known for his defense of classical liberalism. In 1974, Hayek shared the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences (with Gunnar Myrdal) for his pioneering work in the theory of money and economic fluctuations and... penetrating analysis of the interdependence of economic, social and institutional phenomena.
Hayek is considered to be a major economist and political philosopher of the twentieth century. Hayek's account of how changing prices communicate information which enables individuals to coordinate their plans is widely regarded as an important achievement in economics. He also contributed to the fields of systems thinking, jurisprudence, neuroscience and the history of ideas.
Hayek served in World War I and said that his experience in the war and his desire to help avoid the mistakes that had led to the war led him to his career. Hayek lived in Austria, Great Britain, the United States and Germany, and became a British subject in 1938. He spent most of his academic life at the London School of Economics (LSE), the University of Chicago, and the University of Freiburg.
In 1984, he was appointed as a member of the Order of the Companions of Honour by Queen Elizabeth II on the advice of Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher for his services to the study of economics. He also received the US Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1991 from president George H. W. Bush. In 2011, his article The Use of Knowledge in Society was selected as one of the top 20 articles published in the American Economic Review during its first 100 years.

Zigi Shipper: Surviving the Holocaust | Talks at Google
Zigi Shipper is a speaker and Holocaust educator. He has been awarded a British Empire Medal (BEM) for his contributions to Holocaust education. Zigi was born in Lodz, Poland on 18th January 1930 where he lived with his father and grandparents until the war broke out (1939). Zigi, his grandparents and aunts lived in the Lodz Ghetto for four years, working in a metal factory, before the ghetto was liquidated. The family were then transported to Auschwitz-Birkenau.
Google invited Zigi to their London Office to tell his story. He recounted his experiences from the Holocaust including his time in the Lodz Ghetto to liberation and life after the holocaust. Zigi discussed the need to continue sharing the teachings of the Holocaust and to remember to not be a bystander.
