Travel back in time to Medellín in the 1980s
The 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s were a harsh few decades for the nation of Colombia. As is common knowledge, drug kingpin Pablo Escobar and his crew wreaked havoc on the country during this time, largely shaping this period in Colombian history. This tour, however, goes beyond Escobar’s reign and provides you with a larger overview of the nation’s development.

South America Vlog #18 - Medellín, Colombia (Comuna 13, Guatape, Futbol & More)
#Medellin #Colombia #Guatape
Medellín was the city we were probably most excited to visit. We had planned to spend a week so that we could do as much as possible and get a feel for the city itself.
Pro Colombia had organized some really cool tours, one of which was offered by Medellin City Services of Comuna 13. Another was by Colombia Travel Operator to Guatapé and Piedra el Peñol (the giant rock with stairs). Diez Hotel in El Poblado as well as Selina Medellin were amazing enough to host as well. Truly a beautiful place that I would say was the most livable for a foreigner in all of Colombia.

Welcome to Colombia
The LGBT ( movement in Colombia is still young compared to other places in the world and also Colombia is a deeply religions country. Nevertheless Colombia also is one of the most progressive countries. After its LGBT legislation ( it is possible to change sex, marry a partner of same sex and also adopt children.
I received Felipe Cardenas, President of the chamber of commerce LGBT of Bogota (cclgbt.co). He is talking about the Colombian economy, the Colombian LGBT movement ( and the biggest challenges Colombia faces today. Further he talks about investment opportunities and that for real investors the sexual preference of a person does not matter but the business opportunity. We learn that foreign direct investments to Colombia currently are focused to hospitality services with Hotels as the main investment objects.
He also explains his favorite LGBT travel destinations in Colombia ( For members of the LGBT community he recommends Bogota, as it offers the most in whole Colombia ( The second one is Medellin ( as the government is currently investing a lot into diverse offers. The third destination is Cartagena ( that also has a great pride parade. The fourth destination is the coffee triangle (
as in terms of beauty it is unbeaten.
Thanks to Hotel de la Opera ( in la Candelaria ( for hosting us.

Welcome to Colombia
If you want to have fun watch this video, which will surely make you laugh. But in addition, you will find some tips for your trip to Colombia.
If you are thinking of traveling to Colombia and rent a car to know every corner of this country, it is not the best option. In Colombia, through local travel agencies and transport companies you can get the best travel option in Colombia without the risk of driving. Due to the Colombian geography the roads to some towns are very narrow or with many curves, that without having experience driving in Colombia can be dangerous.
In this video you can join me in my driving experience in Colombia. Colombians are very good people but when they start driving, they are not as friendly or patient. Traffic in cities is very congested and some stupid drivers in Colombia do not respect traffic signals. For this reason, I recommend you not to drive in Colombia but when you come, through the travel company that you hired you get a specialized ground transportation service, or you travel by plane to the main cities of Colombia.

5 Things I Wish I Knew About Colombian Buses:
1. Comfortable but the air conditioning is too good.
2. Always late, be patient.
3. They stop for food and vendors sell snacks.
4. Wifi is terrible.
5. Price is negotiable.
6. It is cheaper to do the border crossing yourself.
The two companies we used Expresso Bolivariano and Brasilia. We rode with Brasilia most of the time. Our routes included, Bogota to Cartagena, Cartagena to Santa Marta, Santa Marta to Medellin, and Medellin to the border town of Ipiales. Plus many other smaller bus rides in between.

Medellin vs. Bogota | Which Is The Better Expat Destination in Colombia?
Which is the best country for you?
???? Free Country Test ????
Medellin vs. Bogota
Another day another city comparison, today we will compare living in Medellin vs. living in Bogota.
Both cities have their own benefits when living there, but what are the biggest differences between Medellin and Bogota?
As always Sam shares his own opinion, the things that he claims to be a pro or a con for a city might be different for you. But since he can not talk for everyone, he sticks to his own opinion.
Medellin and Bogota are both great cities to live in as an Expat. The city comparison should help to make your decision easier, in case you're thinking of relocating to one of those cities.
Bogota is the capital city of Colombia and ha around double of the population Medellin has.
It is a pretty international city and has a lot of corporate companies located there. Due to that you see more foreigners and here more different languages from all over the world. But is such a huge city for you?
Medellin is famous for its eternal spring weather (for us even eternal summer)
Medellin is a really developed city and has a lot of entrepreneurship in its air. It's a fast-growing city and has a lot of great spots to live in. But because the city isn't as big as Bogota there are not so many options to live in compared to Bogota. And a lot of great activities are further away. Is the city of Medellin right for you?
Watch the video and find out if one of those cities fit you better.
Don't hesitate to contact us with any Expat questions you might have. No matter if you've got questions about Medellin, Bogota, Santa Marta or Colombia in general. We would love to support you on your journey.

— About Exploring Colombia —
Colombia, a country which many only know because of it’s violent past, has been on my list since I went to South America for my first long-term trip in 2012. 6 Years later and with 5 weeks to spend it was finally time to properly explore my country number 9 on the continent.
For the first part of the trip I’ll be traveling with my mate David to the historical city of Cartagena, some picturesque Carribean islands and to the city of Medellin where we get to learn about the violent past and the transformation of the country. After a few days in the capital Bogota I’ll be joined by my good friend Stefan to learn salsa and take on some outdoor adventures in Cali before heading up to Santa Marta where we checkout the most beautiful beaches, float down rivers and hike through the mountains.

This first dart hit Svalbard, an archipelago close to the North Pole, where they went for three weeks during Christmas and New Year. Inspiration travel.
After that we went to many other locations, such as Russia, Easter Island, Indonesia, etc. Here are the stories:

Travel by Dart is a series that combines adventure travel, reality TV and philanthropy. Each episode two friends throw a dart a the worlds map and travel wherever it lands, no matter the remoteness, cost or difficulty.
Covering every continent on the globe, from the sands of Oman to the most remote islands of Polynesia (and beyond), over 12 episodes they uncover the history, cuisine and richness of culture that connects the world together, while seeking one distinct and outside-the-box way to bring help or positive change to the people or the land they visit.
With the goal of seeking to find the common bond of friendship and kindred love that ties the world together, every trip is fuelled entirely from their own resourcefulness.
Here is our official trailer:
With no fancy television studios, production companies or financial help, they film their entire journey step-by- step from beginning to end, proving that travelling to every continent on the globe, living your wildest dreams and getting past the challenges of the mundane work-life is entirely possible if you put your mind to it.
