Take a 1,450 mile journey along the Colorado River
The Colorado River is so much more than something we raft and fish in. Millions of people in the western U.S. drink water that comes from the river. Millions more use electricity generated by hydroelectric power plants along the rivers 1,450-mile course. Most of the produce on our table is grown using water from the river and its tributaries. When you think about it, the Colorado River is so much more than just a river, its a lifeline for the southwestern U.S. In the Denver7 special presentation Colorado River: Lifeline of the West, hosts Lisa Hidalgo and Eric Lupher share the story of a river that has shaped the landscape for millions of years but is now having itself reshaped by people trying to harness its power.

Old Highway 80 slideshow FORGOTTEN ROADS of ARIZONA
Old Highway 80 slideshow FORGOTTEN ROADS of ARIZONA
A brief video slide show of the very beautiful Old US Hwy 80 in Arizona. Twisting through Arizona like a serpent, old 80 once tied together such far-flung towns such as Douglas and Yuma with the more urbanized centers of Phoenix and Tucson. Although completely decommissioned in Arizona, most of old 80 still exists as state or county highways.
A member of the original 1926 U.S. Highway family, old Highway 80 was once a truly grand route. A transcontinental highway stretching from coast to coast.

Geology of Western Colorado Near Gateway Canyons Resort
Western Colorado is a dream for sightseers and geologists, particularly surrounding Gateway Canyons Resort,
The Unaweep Canyon exposes Precambrian rock that is 1.4 to 1.7 billion years old. Some call it Colorado's Little Yosemite for its stunning views and incredible geological history. Formed before the Uncompahgre Uplift, Unaweep is a Yute Indian word, meaning canyon of divided waters or a canyon with two mouths. The Unaweep Canyon is a very special place in western Colorado, said to be the only canyon in the world where the water flows in both directions. Gateway Canyons Resort is a place where people can come to interact and be reminded about the manner in which natural forces have changed our landscape over time.
For more information about all that Gateway Canyons has to offer, call the resort toll-free at 866-671-4733.

IMPERIAL DAM RECREATION AREA
This outstanding video showcases two recreation areas in the Yuma Field Office . . . the Imperial Dam Recreation Area and the Oxbow Campground.
The Imperial Dam Recreation Area is located approximately 30 miles north of Yuma, Arizona, and includes both Squaw Lake and Senator Wash Recreation Areas. Squaw Lake has camping, hiking, swimming, and fishing opportunities and has direct boat access to the Colorado River. Senator Wash is a reservoir where the public can camp, hike, fish, utilize their off-highway vehicles, and also enjoy all kinds of water activities.
Oxbow Campground is located approximately 23 miles south of Blythe, California, and about 68 miles northwest of Yuma, Arizona, on the Colorado River. Oxbow provides opportunities for camping, hiking, swimming, fishing, boating, and picnicking, and has direct boat access to the Colorado River.
Both Recreation Areas are used year round. The summer crowds enjoy all the water activities available at the recreation areas and because of the mild climate, the winter visitors take advantage of the boating, camping, and fishing opportunities in the winter.
Understanding Yuma, Arizona Water Treatment Plant National Landmark - 1902
The Blaisdell Slow Sand Filter Washing Machine at Yuma, Arizona is a device invented by Mr. Hiram W. Blaisdell to wash sand filters used in the treatment of drinking water. The machine was built in 1902 at Blaisdell's privately operated waterworks, which treated the muddy water of the Colorado River for local consumption. Blaisdell patented the device and marketed it throughout the United States. The Yuma filter is now on City of Yuma property, and has been preserved as the first of its kind. The Blaisdell machine was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on January 18, 1979.
