As salient features of video works, are the fixed camera and the sequential plans, in addition to seek situations that occur naturally in front of the camera. From these circumstances arise relations from the staticity of photography and the uniqueness of the painting. The proposal is to take the viewer to a state of immersion and contemplation.

Donna Conlon & Jonathan Harker | Gotta Play | VASD Program
DONNA CONLON AND JONATHAN HARKER
Gotta Play
Tuesday, July 21, 2015
Mary Harris Auditorium on the campus of Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design, Denver, CO
About the Lecture
Donna Conlon and Jonathan Harker discussed their collaborative video work in which they playfully use the inherent properties of everyday objects to generate incisive and poetic social criticism. The lecture presented Conlon and Harker’s exploratory process, the influence of their geographic context, and the importance of elements such as sound, rhythm, narrative, and humor to create both a visual impact and sociopolitical commentary. Conlon and Harker's VASD Program lecture was presented in conjunction with the Biennial of the Americas and the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver.
About the Lecturers
Donna Conlon (Atlanta, 1966) and Jonathan Harker (Quito, 1975) live and work in Panama City, Panama. Conlon and Harker have exhibited their collaborations widely, including the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York; Pérez Art Museum, Miami; El Museo del Barrio, New York; and Palais du Tokyo, Paris. They have also participated in the 43rd Salón (Inter)Nacional de Artistas, Medellín, Colombia; Mercosur Biennale, Porto Alegre, Brazil; Pontevedra Biennale, Spain; and the Havana Biennale. Their collaborations are also included in public collections such as the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York; and the Tate Modern, London. Conlon and Harker are represented by Diablo Rosso Gallery, Panama.
The Humor Lecture Series
This lecture series focuses on the application of comedy, parody, irony, play, and wit as instruments of communication and experimentation in art, design, and culture. As a fundamental element of the human experience, humor crosses nations and histories. Humor exists in a boundary-blurring space where joy and anguish meet, allowing creators to reveal the severity and ridiculousness of contemporary life.
VASD Program
RMCAD's Visiting Artist, Scholar, and Designer Program explores critical, diverse, and creative inquiry. This interdisciplinary initiative enriches the academic experience at RMCAD and serves the greater Denver-metro community.

Pedra do Arpoador: the Arpoador beach is located between the Copacabana Fort and the corner of Francisco Otaviano St. and Vieira Souto St. in Ipanema. The place is famous for its rock called Pedra do Arpoador. Many people go to the place to enjoy the sea views, to hang out with friends, or to see the sunset. Near the Arpoador rock, there is the Devil's Beach or Praia do Diabo, which is a bit hidden. Many surfers choose Arpoador Beach and Diabo Beach because their waves are higher than other beaches and therefore better for surfing.

Challenges to Brazilian Democracy Conference – Political Exile under the Bolsonaro Government
Welcome: James N. Green, Director, Brown Brazil Initiative
Brief Presentation of U.S. Observatory for Democracy in Brazil Website
Keynote Panel: What Does It Mean to Be a Political Exile under the Bolsonaro Government?
Débora Diniz, professor of anthropology and law
Jean Wyllys, journalist, former congressman
Márcia Tiburi, professor of philosophy
The recent election of Jair Bolsonaro to the Brazilian presidency has raised new questions about the state of democracy in Brazil. Are his campaign promises to criminalize social movements, stop the demarcation of indigenous lands, and eliminate opposition political parties merely electoral rhetoric? What does increased deforestation of the Amazon and other sensitive ecological zones mean for the environment? What is the fate of academic and cultural freedom under a new government whose supporters speak, among other questions, against “gender ideology” and “political correctness,” which can be read as veiled critiques of the women’s and the LGBTQI+ movements and the ideas of progressive social sectors? Will new gun policies result in more deaths in rural and urban areas, and particularly among people of African and indigenous descent? To what extent are human rights, especially among low-income citizens, under threat? This international conference, organized jointly with colleagues from Harvard University, will bring together scholars and social and cultural activists to analyze the current situation in Brazil and assess these and other threats to democracy posed by President Bolsonaro’s far-right agenda. At the Conference, we will also launch the US Observatory for Democracy in Brazil, an English-language website documenting recent events in the country, and have a strategic discussion about how U.S.-based academics and activists can defend democracy in Brazil.

How should museums respond to current political events? Do museums have a responsibility to champion social change, influence political discourse, and assume greater civic responsibilities? If so, how? This conversation will explore museums as political influencers and provocateurs, and activators of social change.

Arena Corinthians
The Arena Corinthians is a sports stadium located in São Paulo, Brazil and owned, operated, and used by Sport Club Corinthians Paulista. It has a seating capacity of 46,116, making it the fifth-largest stadium used by teams in the top tier of the Brazilian League and the eleventh-largest in Brazil.
During the 2014 FIFA World Cup, the stadium was known as Arena de São Paulo. It hosted six matches, including the opening match on 12 June 2014. Because of a requirement for it to have at least 65,000 seats for the World Cup opening match, temporary seats were added to the stadium for the tournament. The temporary seats started to be removed shortly after the last World Cup match.

SUMMARY
=======
Portuguese (português or, in full, língua portuguesa) is a Western Romance language originating in the Iberian Peninsula. It is the sole official language of Portugal, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Angola, and São Tomé and Príncipe. It also has co-official language status in East Timor, Equatorial Guinea and Macau in China. As the result of expansion during colonial times, a cultural presence of Portuguese and Portuguese creole speakers are also found in Goa, Daman and Diu in India; in Batticaloa on the east coast of Sri Lanka; in the Indonesian island of Flores; in the Malacca state of Malaysia; and the ABC islands in the Caribbean where Papiamento is spoken, while Cape Verdean Creole is the most widely spoken Portuguese-based Creole. A Portuguese-speaking person or nation may be referred to as Lusophone in both English and Portuguese.
Portuguese is part of the Ibero-Romance group that evolved from several dialects of Vulgar Latin in the medieval Kingdom of Galicia and the County of Portugal, and has kept some Celtic phonology and lexicon. With approximately 215 to 220 million native speakers and 250 million total speakers, Portuguese is usually listed as the sixth most natively spoken language in the world, the third-most spoken European language in the world in terms of native speakers, and the most spoken language in the Southern Hemisphere. It is also the most spoken language in South America and the second-most spoken in Latin America after Spanish, one of the 10 most spoken languages in Africa and is an official language of the European Union, Mercosur, OAS, ECOWAS and the African Union.

Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding

SUMMARY
=======
Members Church of God International, abbreviated as MCGI, is an international Christian religious organization with headquarters in the Philippines. It started as a small group with less than a hundred believers in 1977. It is popularly known in the Philippines as Ang Dating Daan (English: The Old Path; abbreviated as ADD), the title of its flagship radio and television program and currently the longest-running religious program in the Philippines with Brother Eliseo Soriano as its Overall Servant (Former title: Presiding Minister).
Members Church of God International believes that the Almighty God, the Father sent his begotten Son, Jesus Christ, instrumental in the establishment of the Church of God, first planted in Jerusalem and preached by the apostles. They believe that Gentile nations, including the Philippines, are partakers of the promise of eternal life, through belief in Jesus Christ and the gospel and are not authorized by God to establish their own church, but mere members associated with the same body or the church written in the gospel by accepting it and executing the doctrines written by the apostles. Guided by this scriptural principle, the church's registered name contains descriptive words ang mga kaanib in Tagalog or members in English to emphasize the group's association today, as members of the Church of God that is already established long time ago and was written in the Bible.
On April 25, 1980, in compliance with government regulations, Eliseo Soriano registered the group with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as Ang Mga Kaanib sa Iglesia ng Dios Kay Kristo Hesus, Haligi at Saligan ng Katotohan, sa Bansang Pilipinas (English: Members of the Church of God in Christ Jesus, Pillar and Ground of Truth in the Philippines). In 2004, its registered name was changed to Members Church of God International (Tagalog: Mga Kaanib sa Iglesia ng Dios na Pandaigdig) in line with the church's overseas expansion.
For them, the church's primary objective, as commanded by Jesus Christ, is to propagate the gospel unto all nations until the consummation of the ages, convert sinners to believe and glorify God and to make them qualify for the eternal life in heaven. Currently, MCGI is present in six inhabited continents of the world with more than 1,360 established local congregations. Its flagship program Ang Dating Daan is being broadcast in more than 70 countries, in five languages over terrestrial television, radio, internet and carried by at least seven satellites across the globe. They believe in God the Father, Jesus Christ the Son, and the Holy Spirit but they adopt a nontrinitarianism orientation, rejecting the Trinitarian concept that there is one God in three co-equal persons, which for them is against the Bible. They believe that the Father is greater than all, greater than Jesus Christ as declared by Christ himself. They do not observe customs and traditions which they consider to have pagan origins incompatible with Christianity. MCGI members prefer themselves to be called and identified as plain Christians.
MCGI is not related to the many Church of God groups that descended from the Barney Creek Meeting House revival of the late 19th century in the United States.
