Compton Abbas Aerodrome has a CAA Ordinary Licence (Number P851) that allows flights for the public transport of passengers or for flying instruction as authorised by the licensee (Compton Abbas Airfield Limited).
It was from this airfield in May 1993 that tycoon Asil Nadir flew to France in a six-seater Piper Seneca as he fled to Northern Cyprus.

Compton Abbas is a village and civil parish in the county of Dorset in southern England. It lies within the North Dorset administrative district, 3 miles (4.8 km) south of the town of Shaftesbury. It is sited on greensand strata on the edge of the Blackmore Vale, below the chalk downs of Cranborne Chase. On top of these hills is Compton Abbas Airfield. The A350 road between Wiltshire and the south coast passes through the village. In the 2011 census the civil parish had a population of 216. The name Compton Abbas derives from the Saxon cumb-ton, meaning 'village in a narrow valley', plus abbas which refers to Shaftesbury Abbey (the land was owned by the abbess). The church, St. Mary's, was built in 1866 to replace the older structure which was more remote from the village.
The tower of the Church of St Mary in East Compton is a Grade I listed building.

A good, fun lane with a hard, steep surface, uneven in places, enough to keep it interesting but not hard. Approach from the west end (I think) as that's the bottom, it's much more fun going up than going down. There are rocky parts but people in road tyres can get up it, and even seem to have less trouble sometimes than those on mud tyres. It's a little scratchy in places but not for sustained periods. It ends in a big car park at the top.

Melbury Abbas is a village and civil parish in north Dorset, England, situated between Shaftesbury and Blandford Forum on the edge of Cranborne Chase, close to Melbury Down. In the 2011 census the civil parish—which includes West Melbury and part of Cann Common—had 147 dwellings, 134 households and a population of 305.
In 1086 Melbury Abbas was recorded in the Domesday Book as Meleberie. It was in Sixpenny Hundred, had 47 households, 12 ploughlands and 4 mills, and the lord and tenant-in-chief was Shaftesbury Abbey.
Melbury Abbas village is situated on an unclassified road that follows a hilltop route roughly parallel to the A350 primary route between Shaftesbury and Blandford. The A350 follows a lowland route through villages in the Blackmore Vale. Traffic uses the unclassified route as an alternative because it is straighter and passes through fewer villages. Melbury Abbas is the only bottleneck on this road, where it dips down into the valley and becomes narrower. Dorset County Council have considered bypass schemes, but none has got further than preliminary stages as the village is surrounded by conservation land.
There is a small airfield near the adjacent village of Compton Abbas. Prominent hills in the area include Melbury Hill (263 m) and Breeze Hill (262 m).

On call Ambulance trapped in Melbury Abbas
An Ambulance heading north with blue lights flashing got stuck against a lorry today at 12.20pm in Melbury Abbas. Police were called and closed the road at the junction of the C13 with the B3081 at Cann Common, so that they could extricate the Ambulance. Then after more than 30 minutes the road was re-opened. The female ambulance driver asked one of our residents if he got the VRM of the truck as it has damaged the wing mirror of the ambulance, as the lorry drove off without stopping to exchange details.
