French Toast Recipe: How to Make French Toast Easy
In this video i will show you how to make french toast. Its easy french toast recipe.
Eleni's French Toast:
Recipe is for a family of 4 with 4 slices of bread each.
Depending on how thick the bread you use, depends how long you dip your bread into mixture.
Thicker bread requires a little longer to absorb the mixture. Thinner bread not so much or it will tear.
Bread of your choice - suggestions: Brioche, Challah, Pullman Loaf also referred to as sandwich bread or pan bread - white or wheat, Texas Toast.
4 eggs
1 1/2 cups milk
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract (or a little more if you prefer not too much or it will be bitter).
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (add more as you dip bread slices as the first few get the most of it).
Preparation:
Beat eggs, vanilla and cinnamon in a shallow dish (big enough to dip slice of bread). Stir in milk.
Dip bread in egg mixture, turning to coat both sides evenly.
Cook bread slices on lightly greased nonstick griddle or skillet on medium heat (375 degrees) until browned on both sides.
Other suggestions:
Sprinkle powder sugar on top when they are done cooking. You can also put on top strawberries, blueberries, bananas...
Serve with warm maple syrup.
You can also serve with apple butter - my dad likes this!
Enjoy!
Easy portable breakfast - How to Make Ham Egg and Cheese Pockets
No Washing Up Ham, Egg & Cheese Pockets
Prep Time
3 mins
Cook Time
25 mins
Total Time
28 mins
These pockets filled with ham, egg and cheese take 2 minutes to assemble and you won't have a single dirty dish to wash! No need to measure the filling exactly, just eye ball it. Use this recipe as a base and fill these pockets with whatever you want - salami, cooked bacon, spinach, olives - the possibilities are endless! Tip: Don't go overboard with the filling, will make it tricky to wrap.
Course: Breakfast, Lunch
Servings: 2 to 4
Calories: 415 kcal
Ingredients
2 soft large wraps / tortillas(approx 23 cm / 9 diameter) (Note 1)
110-150 g / 3.5 - 5 oz ham slices(Note 3)
1/2 - 2/3 cups grated cheddar or tasty cheese (or any other melting cheese) (Note 2)
2 eggs
Instructions
Preheat oven to 180C/350F (all oven types).
Place 2 pieces of foil on a work surface and spray with oil (any).
Place tortilla on foil. Place ham in the middle of the tortilla, making sure you arrange it so it is flat, not a mound (harder to keep egg in place). Even better, create a shallow crater shape using off ham off cuts and shavings.
Place cheese in the middle of the ham, the form into a ring.
Working quickly (one pocket at a time), crack an egg into the ring then fold the bottom and top edges in, then the left and right side to form a package. Then wrap in foil. DO NOT TURN UPSIDE DOWN!!! (Egg will leak)
Place on baking tray.
Bake for 25 minutes. Check to ensure yolk is cooked by poking the pocket, you will feel the dome shape of the yolk. The base and edges should be crispy and the top will be soft.
Unwrap immediately (otherwise will sweat and lose crispiness). Serve hot!

Greek Frappe As A Pre-Workout?!
Greek Frappe has always been staple in my house so naturally when I started working out I thought it would make the perfect pre-workout, but sadly Ryan doesn't think so, but coffee is caffeine and caffeine gives you energy to work out so obviously he is wrong. lol
In my defense just because Ryan is a fitness instructor doesn't mean that he knows everything so naturally I will continue to drink my Greek Frappe as my Pre-Workout.
Ryan is the lead fitness instructor and health advisor at hit back fitness you can check out his YouTube channel here...
This series of fitness and health videos is my attempt at getting fit and healthy. Leave. comment with a fitness theme you'd like to see me cover here on Greek in the City. Obviously my fitness videos will have a slight comedic twist.

GreekFoodTv☼ Greek Gourmet Foods Healthy Cooking
Learn about feta, other Greek cheeses, olives, olive oil, grains, wines & spirits and more Greek gourmet ingredients as an introduction to all that's healthy, delicious, and unique about Greek foods. This video is an introduction to the Greek gourmet pantry for people who love to cook. Most of these ingredients and food products are available in Greek shops across America and Europe, and at the Hellenic Gourmet Shop at the Athens Venizelos International Airport
E.U. membership ushered in a torrent of new foods, many available for the first time on supermarket shelves. Restaurant menus from the 1990s read like a catalogue of novel ingredients that were embraced more or less indiscriminately. In the early 1990s I reviewed dishes such as spinach-cheese pies in wonton wrappers, potato pancakes with smoked trout and heavy cream, and baked wheels of camembert with berry sauce. There was smoked salmon or salmon roe on what seemed like every other plate of pasta, with the then-requisite vodka-cream sauce.
As the '90s progressed and stocks rose, restaurants reflected new wealth and unabashed hubris. Bouncers became fixtures at the doors, controlling who was allowed in. At one now-defunct restaurant, where my ancient Volkswagen Beetle was the only jalopy in a row of gleaming BMWs, the chef served me fish on a plate garnished with a large rock. Lavishly designed restaurants opened one after another. Mostly, the food was flashy with little substance, a metaphor for what was happening in society. The stock market eventually crashed, and the well-guarded, oversized and over-designed eateries began to close.
When the 2004 Olympics loomed large, chefs began to embrace regional ingredients and to rework forgotten dishes to fit a modern nation. Pride and provenance pervaded the restaurant scene almost to the point of excess, with menus reading like maps of the country's food products. Greek was in.
But the five years after the Olympics marked one of the most corrupt and decadent periods in modern Greek history. Scandal after government scandal soured headlines. Crooked officials cooked the books. The epitome of excess for me came at one of Athens's most fashionable restaurants, when I sampled, with (much justified) hesitation, a heaping mound of freeze-dried feta, numbingly cold, dry as sawdust and about as flavorful. Like the tenuous foundations on which Greeks erected their glorious glitz, so did chefs serve food that was the culinary equivalent of a house of cards: They fashioned foams from the components of skordalia, the unapologetically heady garlic-potato puree; fed us feta in myriad guises, including ice cream; and tumbled cubes of Greek-salad-flavored gel and even sacrosanct moussaka into martini glasses.
To be fair, not all of it was bad, but most of it was intimidating, food that bullied even savvy diners into feeling that they had to like it in order to fit into some new socio-culinary order. The media, meanwhile, waxed poetic about every spritz of foam. No one asked why so much of what had been a robust, earthy cuisine had been deconstructed into hot air, much like what was happening on a larger stage with government coffers..

Greece...faces of compassion
In times of devastation such as the wildfires that killed many people, destroyed communities and created stories of courage, Greek people rally to remember, honor and act for it's people whose voices are no longer heard. They don't only riot and destroy aimlessly as the world has portrayed them. This is the compassion of the greeks who fight as heroes for integrity to be restored. These people all came out to Syntagma square one afternoon, dressed in black to pay their respects, hold a candlelight vigil and to speak their views. What is amazing is that they were invited thru an email invitation that spread like the wildfire that took their people and land. These people are the spirit of Greece in action... Spirit that reminds us to persevere in the face of calamity, diversity and impossibility. The Special Olympics will take place this summer in Greece 2011 June 25-July 5th, Their mascot invites the world to be in emai mesa ....Im In to reflect on elpitha...hope....apofastitikotita....determination...pathos passion for life...eleftheria...freedom... andaisothoxia...optimisim qualities that every human being is born to enjoy no matter what their abilities. I am proud that Greece is hosting the Special Olympics and stepping up to Be In the world spotlight and to promote inclusion. check out their official website and then get in touch with your countries Special Olympics organization....It will move and inspire you, tell them Eleni sent you to make a difference.
