North Cooking Lake is a hamlet in Alberta, Canada within Strathcona County. It is located on Highway 630 and on the northeast shore of Cooking Lake, approximately 24 kilometres southeast of Sherwood Park. It is 4 kilometres south of the Waskehegan Staging Area entrance to Cooking Lake-Blackfoot Grazing, Wildlife Provincial Recreation Area. Due to the multiple lakes nearby with sandy beaches, North Cooking Lake was known as one of Edmonton's recreation and resort spots in the early 1900s . It was so popular that special trains operated to bring vacationers to the North Cooking Lake Station where steamers and motor boats delivered them to different resorts. Once a teeming playground, North Cooking Lake is now a peaceful residential retreat.

Hiking The Cooking Lake-Blackfoot Area Trails

I headed out today East of Edmonton, Alberta to hike some trails in the Cooking Lake-Blackfoot Provincial Recreation Area...It is a beautiful area with lots of wildlife. The trails are excellent for all level hikers and criss cross through forest and gullies with lots of beaver activity.
I also tried a mountain house meal for the first time. I had a lasagna with meat sauce meal and it was delicious.

Elk on the Blackfoot

Just after dawn on the Blackfoot River near Lincoln, Montana. On my morning jog I had chased a small herd of elk down to the river. Some are visible on the point of land just as the video begins. The whole herd was in the river when I emerged from the trees, but they were wandering off by the time I fished out my phone.
