Places to see in ( Lancaster - UK )
Lancaster, or is a city and the county town of Lancashire, England. It is situated on the River Lune. Long existing as a commercial, cultural and educational centre, Lancaster is the settlement that gives Lancashire its name. Lancaster has several unique ties to the British monarchy; the House of Lancaster was a branch of the English royal family, whilst the Duchy of Lancaster holds large estates on behalf of Elizabeth II, who herself is also the Duke of Lancaster in her capacity as monarch.
Lancaster was granted city status in 1937 for its long association with the crown and because it was the county town of the King's Duchy of Lancaster. With its history based on its port and canal, Lancaster is an ancient settlement, dominated by Lancaster Castle, Lancaster Priory Church and the Ashton Memorial. It is also home to the campus-based Lancaster University and a campus of the University of Cumbria.
Lancaster is the most northerly city in Lancashire, located three miles 4.8 km inland from Morecambe Bay. The city is located on the River Lune (from which it derives its name), and the Lancaster Canal.
The M6 motorway passes to the east of Lancaster, with junctions 33 and 34 to the south and north respectively. Lancaster is served by the West Coast Main Line which runs through Lancaster railway station. This station was formerly named Lancaster Castle railway station in order to differentiate it from Lancaster Green Ayre railway station on the Leeds–Morecambe line, which closed in 1966. The main bus operator in Lancaster is Stagecoach, which operates over thirty services from Lancaster Bus Station to Lancaster and Morecambe as well as frequent services in Lancashire, Cumbria, Greater Manchester and services throughout the North West of England. The Lancaster Canal and River Lune also pass through the city. The nearest airports are Manchester Airport, Liverpool Airport and, until October 2014, Blackpool International Airport.

Explore Dove Cottage - once home to Dorothy and William Wordsworth
This video is from ‘William Wordsworth: Poetry, People and Place’ is a free online course by the University of Lancaster available on FutureLearn.com
December 1799 marked the start of William Wordsworth and his sister Dorothy making a real home together at Dove Cottage in Grasmere. After William married Mary Hutchinson in 1802, Dorothy continued to live with them and to help look after their children. Dorothy’s life was a remarkable one for a woman of her day. Famously, William wrote of Dorothy in one of his poems: ‘She gave me eyes, she gave me ears’.
This film takes us into Dove Cottage itself with Professor Sharon Ruston to explore this house as a home. We see various objects associated with Dorothy and think about the experience of living and writing here.

Link To The Past (Lancaster)
The LuneTube time machine takes us back to Georgian Lancaster; a period when walking the streets after sunset could be full of danger!
As a busy trading port, Lancaster had its fair share of wealthy inhabitants; but the streets were also traversed by sailors, cut-throats and ne'er-do-wells. Imagine what it must have been like for a lady of refinement, abroad in the city after dark?

York Castle Museum (A Great Family Day Out)
Our family day out at York Castle Museum. You can also see many other videos on my Youtube Channel at
York Castle Museum is one of Britain's leading museums of everyday life. It shows how people used to live by displaying thousands of household objects and by recreating rooms, shops, streets and even prison cells.
The new chemists' shop on Kirkgate
It is best known for its recreated Victorian street, Kirkgate, which has been made bigger during 2012 with new backstreets to explore, more goods on display and real stories of York people and businesses to discover.
The street was named after the museum's founder, Dr John L. Kirk, a North Yorkshire country doctor who collected everyday objects and wanted to keep them safe for future generations.
The museum's room settings include a Victorian parlour, an 1850s Moorland cottage, Jacobean and Georgian dining rooms, a 1940s kitchen and a 1950s front room.
The Sixties
Our grooviest gallery, The Sixties, explores the music, fashion and everyday life of this exciting decade.
Elsewhere are displays of historic toys, fashion, armour, weapons, tools, printing presses, cooking utensils, farming equipment and much more.
The museum's past as two prison buildings is explored in York Castle Prison, where visitors come face to face with ex-prisoners including highwayman Dick Turpin, who was hanged in 1739 for horse stealing.
York Castle Prison
Conditions in the overcrowded prison were harsh and brutal and the real stories of the prisoners and staff are told in sometimes gruesome detail.
Turpin spent his last six months in the Debtors' Prison, which was built in 1701-5, and today houses half of the museum's displays. The other half of the museum was originally the Female Prison, built in 1780-83.
The museum, which opened in 1938, was named after the former York Castle, which stood on the site.
Raindale Mill and the riverside area
Remains of the former Castle walls can be seen outside the museum next to the River Foss and our Victorian watermill, Raindale Mill.
Work has taken place in Spring 2012 to restore the mill and the nearby riverside area and the waterwheel can be seen in action again on many weekends, between 11am and 1pm - but please check before visiting to avoid disappointment.
York Castle Museum is a museum located in York, North Yorkshire, England, on the site of York Castle, originally built by William the Conqueror in 1068. The museum itself was founded by Dr John L Kirk in 1938, and is housed in prison buildings which were built on the site of the castle in the 18th century, the Debtors Prison (built in 1701-05 using stone from the ruins of the castle) and the Female Prison (built 1780-1785).
Welcome to the award winning York Castle Museum - one of Europe's top museums, with authentic streets and a whole lot more...
Take a tantalising trip through time as you step into the world famous recreated street - Kirkgate. Flory Park Lancaster PA
This is a test of my 4 K action camera. (GoPro Clone) Flory Park Lancaster PA. Entrance at Greenland drive. I am 65 years old and I power walk everyday over a 10 mile area. I decided to start taping some of my walks. The camera cut off after 30 minutes and formed a second file. I joke about knowing hundreds and hundreds of people. I moved here nine years ago. I can remember people if they are in front of their house. The girl who was waving to me at the end was Suzy who owns the Bed and Breakfast. I showed you! I had just finished a 3 mile power walk with a neighbor when I decided to do this walk. The camera is 1080i at 60fps I am walking my medium speed in order to get the video done before the battery quit. I went conservative and still the camera bit me making a second file! Must be a setting that needs to be changed.
Tour of Capel Manor College gardens (Enfield, UK)
Capel Manor is a college teaching gardening, horticulture, landscaping, animal care, saddlery and floristry in Enfield, just north of London (or more precisely: Bullsmoor Lane, Enfield, Middlesex EN1 4RQ).
In mid-April 2015 (tulip & flowering tree season!), we visited the beautiful Capel Manor College gardens & grounds, and here is a short video showing the highlights of our 2-3 hour tour.
I made this video for:
1.) Potential visitors: So people can see what Capel Manor is like and know roughly what to expect of their visit before making the trip out (although bear in mind that the plant displays will be different all the time due to the changeable nature of seasonal plants and due to the diligent staff constantly making new garden design displays).
2.) Alumni: it can be fun for old students and teachers / staff to reminisce so I thought this would be a fun video to see what the college looks like in April 2015
3.) Me: I wanted to to remember the day and also wanted practice video-making using a new technique - in making this I tried a new method of filming in a way that wasn't disruptive to the people I was with - no asking anyone to wait for me while I found the perfect shot, and I tried filming from the hip and hoping for the best, rather than seeing the whole day through a lens etc.. hence the shaky cam - sorry about that!
- - -
In this video you will see:
- The Entrance to the college
- Snapshots of most of the gardens, featuring lots of colourful tulips of many different species and also featuring primroses, pansies, greenhouses, apple tree blossoms, the remnants of the daffodils of the year and cherry tree blossoms
- Some animals including the wallabies, meerkats (including baby meerkats!), barn owl, koi fish, guinea pigs and rabbits (unfortunately all the other animals were not out on display when we visited.)

Apologies again for the shakey footage - I hope you enjoy the video despite this and hopefully you won't get motion sick :D
