CARDIFF INTERNATIONAL FOOD AND DRINK FESTIVAL - CRAFT AROUND THE WORLD

Cardiff Castle, Cardiff, South Wales, Wales, United Kingdom, Europe
Cardiff Castle is a medieval castle and Victorian Gothic revival mansion located in the city centre of Cardiff, Wales. The original motte and bailey castle was built in the late 11th century by Norman invaders on top of a 3rd-century Roman fort. The castle was commissioned by either William the Conqueror or by Robert Fitzhamon, and formed the heart of the medieval town of Cardiff and the Marcher Lord territory of Glamorgan. In the 12th century the castle began to be rebuilt in stone, probably by Robert of Gloucester, with a shell keep and substantial defensive walls being erected. Further work was conducted by Richard de Clare in the second half of the 13th century. Cardiff Castle was repeatedly involved in the conflicts between the Anglo-Normans and the Welsh, being attacked several times in the 12th century, and stormed in 1404 during the revolt of Owain Glyndwr. After being held by the de Clare and Despenser families for several centuries the castle was acquired by Richard de Beauchamp in 1423. Richard conducted extensive work at the castle, founding the main range on the west side of the castle, dominated by a tall, octagonal tower. Following the Wars of the Roses the status of the castle as a Marcher territory was revoked and its military significance began to decline. The Herbert family took over the property in 1550, remodelling parts of the main range and carrying out construction work in the outer bailey, then occupied by Cardiff's Shire Hall and other buildings. During the English Civil War Cardiff Castle was initially taken by Parliamentary force, but was regained by Royalist supporters in 1645. When fighting broke out again in 1648, a Royalist army attacked Cardiff in a bid to regain the castle, leading to the battle of St Fagans just outside the city. Cardiff Castle escaped potential destruction by Parliament after the war and was instead garrisoned to protect against a possible Scottish invasion. In the mid-18th century, Cardiff Castle passed into the hands of the Marquesses of Bute. John Stuart, the first Marquess, employed Capability Brown and Henry Holland to renovate the main range, turning it into a Georgian mansion, and to landscape the castle grounds, demolishing many of the older medieval buildings and walls. During the first half of the 19th century the family became extremely wealthy as a result of the growth of the coal industry in Glamorgan. The third Marquess, John Crichton-Stuart, used this wealth to back an extensive programme of renovations under William Burges. Burges remodelled the castle in a Gothic revival style, lavishing money and attention on the main range. The resulting interior designs are considered to be amongst the most magnificent that the gothic revival ever achieved. The grounds were re-landscaped and, following the discovery of the old Roman remains, reconstructed walls and a gatehouse in a Roman style were incorporated into the castle design. Extensive landscaped parks were built around the outside of the castle.
In the early 20th century the fourth Marquess inherited the castle and construction work continued into the 1920s. The Bute lands and commercial interests around Cardiff were sold off or nationalised during the period until, by the time of the Second World War, almost only the castle remained. During the war, extensive air raid shelters were built in the castle walls, able to hold up to 1,800 people. When the Marquess died in 1947, the castle was given to the city of Cardiff. Today the castle is run as a tourist attraction, with the grounds housing the Firing Line regimental museum and interpretation centre. The castle has also served as a venue for events, including musical performances and festivals. John, the fourth Marquess, acquired the castle in 1900 on the death of his father, and the family estates and investments around the castle began to rapidly reduce in size. Cardiff had grown hugely in the previous century, its population increasing from 1,870 in 1800 to around 250,000 in 1900, but the coal trade began to diminish after 1918 and industry suffered during the depression of the 1920s. John only inherited a part of the Butes' Glamorgan estates, and in the first decades of the 20th century he sold off much of the remaining assets around Cardiff, including the coal mines, docks and railway companies, with the bulk of the land interests being finally sold off or nationalised in 1938. Development work on the castle continued. There was extensive restoration of the medieval masonry in 1921, with architect John Grant rebuilding the South Gate and the barbican tower, and reconstructing the medieval West Gate and town wall alongside the castle, with the Swiss Bridge being moved in 1927 to make room for the new West Gate developmenta.

'Cardiff Bay' and 'The Doctor Who Experience' - Visit Wales
Cardiff Bay
Cardiff Bay (Welsh: Bae Caerdydd) is the area of water created by the Cardiff Barrage in south Cardiff, the capital of Wales. It is also the name commonly given to the areas of the city surrounding the Bay. The creation of Cardiff Bay is now widely regarded as one of the most successful regeneration projects in the United Kingdom.[1] The Bay is supplied by two rivers (Taff and Ely) to form a 500-acre (2.0 km2) freshwater lake around the former dockland area south of the city centre. The Bay was formerly tidal, with access to the sea limited to a couple of hours each side of high water but now provides 24-hour access through three locks.[2]
'Doctor Who Experience'
An exhibition titled Doctor Who Experience, complete with a new interactive Doctor Who episode with the Eleventh Doctor, opened at London Olympia on 20 February 2011 after a number of test days and preview visits.[1] It closed on 22 February 2012[2] and the exhibition moved to Cardiff, opening on 20 July 2012.[3] It will close on 9 September 2017.[4]
The immersive exhibition was designed and installed by the UK-based theme park design and installation company Sarner Ltd.[5]
The exhibition begins with a short film and a walk-through adventure inside the TARDIS and in various locations. The group are led through the experience by a guide and the Twelfth Doctor. Initially the Eleventh Doctor featured in the experience, but was replaced after he regenerated.....

Welsh Food - 4 Things to Eat Taste Test in Cardiff, Wales
Join us at Y Mochyn Du pub in Cardiff, Wales as we explore Welsh Food for the first time sampling 4 different things to eat in this taste test. We started off with local Welsh beer and tea while ordering two different starters, a main dish and dessert to share between the two of us. The 4 different food items we tried were as follows:
1) Cawl (traditional Welsh soup)
2) Welsh Rarebit (melted cheese on sliced toast)
3) Faggots, gravy, mashed potatoes and peas
4) Rhubarb Crumble (sweet dessert with fruit)
All of it was delicious and to be honest the starters were the size of mains and we ended up feeling rather stuffed by the end of the meal. The portions at this pub are very generous.

Welsh Food - 4 Things to Eat in Cardiff, Wales travel and cuisine video transcript:
It is lunchtime here in Cardiff and we found a little pub that is called Y Mochyn Du I think. Welsh is a very complicated language. We've been here like almost a week and we haven't really tried Welsh food yet aside from Welsh cakes so we're like alright it is time to see what Welsh food is all about.
We've been sick and haven't been doing a whole lot.
We ordered two starters, one main, dessert, Sam got a pint. We're going to be sampling all things Welsh. Welsh food. All of it is local this is basically a Welsh food taste test.
Alright Sam, so I'm starting off with a pint. A pint. So this is I think uh Cwrw Y Mochyn Du. This is the local red ale beer and I'm so excited to try this.
And we think Cwrw means bore. It has a picture of a black pig. This is really nice beer. It has that kind of like craft beer taste.
Well, well for our appetizer we're starting off with the National Dish of Wales. We are having Cawl and when Sam ordered this he was like I'll have a bowl of Cawl.
This is kind of like a soup. What is here? Slash stew. I was reading about it online and it can have different ingredients.
So the classic usually has lamb and leeks but it can also have beef and potatoes, carrots like different seasonal vegetables. So yeah, this one has potato and carrots. I don't know if this is lamb or beef yet.
Okay, what is your appetizer? So next up we're having Welsh Rarebit. Not rabbit. Rarebit. Rarebit. I can assure you there is no rabbit in here. No rabbit. Basically it is kind of it looks like a gourmet piece of toast with cheese and bacon. Cheese melted over top.
It can be cheese or a cheese sauce apparently. I'm not sure if it is cheese or a cheese sauce. It could be maybe it is both. And it came with a little side salad and something to dip I think. I'm going to dip it in.
That is so good. The cheese is like it is really it has like kind of a creamy consistency. Mmmm. It is so tasty. You know I read that sometimes it can have Béchamel sauce.
Going in for the Welsh Rarebit not rabbit. Look at the cheese it is just melting off.
The main dish has arrived so this is Welsh Faggots and mushy peas and we have two giant like these are minced meat balls and apparently they have um lamb in them. Over here you can obviously see the mushy peas, you can see the mashed potatoes. Lots of onion gravy.
We were asking the bartender what is the most typical dessert we could order at a Welsh pub? And he was like Rhubarb crumble.
Anyways, on to price point. In total that came to 26 Quid and that included the two drinks, the pint. And the tea. The two appetizers which were more like mains. The main which was like a massive main and then an enormous dessert to share. It was 13 per person and we're leaving very full, very satisfied and we really enjoyed Welsh food and we would highly recommend you to try all of these dishes if you're visiting Wales.
This is part of our Travel in Wales video series showcasing Welsh food, Welsh culture and Welsh cuisine.

UFO in sky over Cardiff, Wales UK - 28 March 2019
I was walking into my flat when i looked up and spotted this bright light in the sky. I called for my son (11 yrs old) who came running. It's both of us watching this shape. I pulled out my Samsung S8 and started filming and captured a clear UFO. At the time of filming a plane passed by and looked tiny in comparison.
