Cullasaja River Gap-Macon County, North Carolina
This is a video I shot driving along the Cullasaja River Gap that stretches between Highlands and Franklin in Macon County, North Carolina. Us natives/locals simply refer to it as The Gorge. It is much more beautiful in the early Summer when everything is in bloom or in the Fall when the mountains are alive with explosive color(and you have a better view of the water/waterfall and the gorge itself). I shot the video by strategically(yeah, right)mounting and positioning my iPhone on the windshield using a dash mount. I just wish I had cleaned the bird poop off of the windshield before I started recording. lol
The song that's playing in the background is one of my favorite pieces of music...the Reflections of China Suite from the China Pavilion at EPCOT in Walt Disney World...it's one of the most beautiful pieces of music these ears have ever heard.
Upper Cullasaja Falls- Highlands, NC
The Cullasaja River winds it's way down the Cullasaja River Gorge between Highlands, NC and Franklin, NC in the Nantahala National Forest. There are multiple waterfalls along this river but Upper Cullasaja Falls is the most 'hidden' and most difficult to access. Here, we provide easy viewing of the falls from the safety of your computer or phone.

This video is raw with not editing and audio may not be great neither. This video is intended for you to have an idea of the place and area, and for you to decide or not to make plans to explore it yourself or get in touch with me to put a group together and all of us have fun.
The Cullasaja River is a short river located entirely in Macon County, NC. It originates to the southeast, near Highlands.
Cullasaja means honey locust place in the Cherokee language. The gorge is part of the trail followed by Spanish explorer Hernando DeSoto in 1540.
Location
Can be accessed along US Highway 64/State Road 28 between Highlands and Franklin, NC, which is part of the Waterfall Byway. The road is winding and narrow

Drive FS Road 67 to Laurel Falls Trail Head
Take a ride with us on a popular drive from Standing Indian Campground to the trail head to Laurel Falls, aka Big Laurel Falls. The 7 mile drive (from the campground) travels FS road 67, with a lot of pull offs, primitive camping sites, and miles of trails, you could stay back here for weeks and not see it all.
Driving through The Gorge in North Carolina
This is a edited video of my trip through The Gorge in my truck. It should be noted that my truck has a flat spot on the dashboard which allowed me to set the camera down there so I could keep both hands on the wheel. I strongly discourage people holding a camera while shooting a video and driving at the same time.
Now that I've said that, here are the facts. This video was shot going westbound on Interstate Fourty (I-40) from west of Lake Junaluska, NC to the Tennessee border. The video was 33 minutes long and was edited down to 17 minutes with no music and no narration, the only sounds you hear are that of a truck driving with the windows down.
The History: this area is part of the Eisenhower Interstate System which was approved by President Dwight D Eisenhower in the 50's. Construction on this segment began in 1956 and was completed in the 1960's. It contained, for a while, the only tunnels on the Interstate Highway System west of the Mississippi River until the Pennsylvania Turnpike (I-76 & I-70/76) was added to the Interstate System. This area has seen several major rock slides over the years. In 1985, a rock slide closed the westbound side near the mouth of the tunnel (where the large wall is now in the video), then in 1996, a rock slide forced the closure of the highway for six months, and then a rock slide on October 25, 2009 forced the closure of the highway for another 6-8 months. That last rock slide occured near the Tennessee line where the large wall with plants is now. This road is a pretty treacherous stretch of highway during the winter as well as it does get very icy. The center divider looks very scarred in some spots as you may be able to see.

Western North Carolina's Most Scenic Drive - Highway 105
This is Part 1 of a scenic drive on Highway 105 from the Paddy's Creek and Shortoff Mountain area and headed north toward Table Rock and Hawksbill Mountain. I stopped and did multiple shoots to get this video from points on the road about 2 miles apart. You can see some awesome views of Linville Gorge, North Cove of McDowell County, the Linville River and much more. The music is just me strumming my Hohner acoustic guitar. Here's a link to Part 2:
