SUNDAY PISAC MARKET | Sacred Valley of the Incas | Cusco Day Trip to Pisac Peru
Part 1 of our day trip to Pisac, Peru.
Today, we boarded a colectivo (shared bus) to do one of the most popular Cusco Day Trips, a day visit to Pisac Market. This Cusco to Pisac ride costs only 5 Peruvian Soles, or less than 1.50 USD!
The Market in Pisac is considered to be one of the must visits in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. It's the the biggest market in the Sacred Valley of the Incas.
Due to its popularity, this market in Pisac happens three times a week (Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays). But the Sunday Pisac Market is still the best day to experience this colorful place.
At 11 am, they have a Catholic mass at the Iglesia de San Pedro Apostol, the main church in Pisac. The mass is in the Quechua language, and locals show up in colorful traditional Andean clothing.
We also visited the Horno Colonial San Francisco, one of the communal ovens in town. It is a clay oven, mainly to cook cui (guinea pig) or empanadas. A very interesting scene to check out in Pisaq!
This is part 1 of our Pisac Day Trip, which only includes the Pisac Market on Sunday. Part 2 is coming up next, which will take you on a two-hour hike to the Pisac Ruins.

Explore the wonders of Cusco, the Sacred Valley & Machu Picchu.
Machu Picchu has a gravitational pull. So strong that Inca culture still influences people today. Some practice the 600-year-old pottery techniques. Others, like you, are moved from thousands of miles away. It urges you to hike in Cusco at 11,000 feet above sea level, investigate the ruins of Sacsayhuamán, Stonehenge of the Andes, make friends with the local schoolchildren who live in hidden weaving communities in undiscovered valleys, stand above it all at the summit of Montaña Machu Picchu and testify to the resilience of humanity. Theirs and yours.

Travel and Healing spiritual shamanic ceremonies in Peru
Andean spirituality and religiosity in Peru
Peru has a rich, ancient culture of spiritualism centering around the connection between humans and the Earth Mother (Pachamama). The ancestral ceremonies involved date back to long before the Incas and are mediated by paqos, which are distinct from shamans. (See our newsletter here to learn the difference between the two and about the paqos which Travel and Healing uses. Note that our itineraries refer to paqos as shamans to avoid confusion.) At its core, Peruvian spirituality is animist, believing in the sentience and power of individual mountains and the gods that inhabit them (“apus,” as they are called locally), natural phenomena such as thunder and lightning, and to Pachamama, the Earth Mother. Travel and Healing emphasizes three of the most important traditional ceremonies: the Flower Cleansing, Coca Leaf Reading, and the “despacho,” or Offering to Pachamama.
SALKANTAY TREK to MACHU PICCHU | PERU SACRED ROUTES | SALKANTAY TREKKING
The Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu is a famous trekking in Cusco and is an attractive alternative to the Inca Trail. It is considered by most to be the best alternative route not only because of the rampant beauty you will encounter but also because of the lack of people. Because it is more rugged and remote, the Salkantay Trek is significantly less populated than the Inca Trail. This route combines adventure with cultural exploration, taking you off the beaten track with visits to the authentic Andean communities who exist alongside ancient ruins. With formidable views and awe-inspiring vistas, this path less traveled has an unquantifiable value. It is truly, as deemed by the Inca, Sacred.
Experience the Salkantay Trek route traveling from the mountainous areas to the jungle of Cusco. Start your adventure by letting yourself be dazzled by Humantay Lake. Sleep among the stars in our Sky Camp, take the challenge of walking close to the imposing snowy peak of the Salkantay, and end this experience touring the ancient archaeological center of Machu Picchu.
A trip worthy of an adventurer.
Explore Salkantay Trek with local TREKKING SPECIALISTS!
Salkantay Trekking is one of Peru’s leading tour operators trusted for professional, efficient, and highly friendly services. We focus on Treks and Adventure tours to Machu Picchu only, which encourages us to polish our itinerary and improve our service continually.

A Unique Inter-Cultural Permaculture (PDC) Immersion with the Q'ero Indigenous of Peru
I am THRILLED to find out who is filling the last few spaces on our design team in Peru to create an Eco-Sanctuary with our Q'ero family (while receiving your PDC).
For the past 6 years, my partner Julian Apaza Cruz and father-in-law Maestro Juan Gabriel of the Q'ero Nation, have been dreaming to build a Temple in Peru to expand indigenous teachings and ceremonies in the heart of modern culture.
We are happy to now be proud stewards of land in the Sacred Valley, Peru and honored that Penny Livingston will be coming down this April to host a Permaculture Design Certification course in which our Eco-Sanctuary is the design project!
**This is a very UNIQUE EXPERIENCE, and it's only happening once! **
In this 20 day experiential learning retreat, we want to completely immerse you in Sacred Plant Ceremonies, Teaching with our Q'ero Wisdom-keeper, Local Organic Healing cuisine, Ancestral Traditions, a hike to secret priestess temple, and really dive into indigenous teachings that can be applied to your personal life. From this place of first-hand experience and personal benefit from these practices & ceremonies- we then want you to help us design an Eco-Sanctuary that will be a lasting space for others to learn these indigenous practices far into future generations. By the end of these 20 magical days, you will receive a PDC certification & an extensive tool belt of indigenous practices to enhance your life (and hopefully your community as well.) This is going down Mar 30- April 18.
You can choose to stay for an extra 10 days to learn about herbology and medicine making in the mountains, & take an excursion with us out to the high jungle to learn weaving from the Masters (with a superb hot spring trip at the end).
This is an INTERCULTURAL EDUCATION EXPERIENCE.
When you sign up, you are also sponsoring a local farmer or educator to become certified in Permaculture Design so they can further impact the local community here. And throughout the course we will be hearing from local guests about ancestral techniques & practices of Peru.
We have a couple spaces left on the design team and can't wait to see who else will be joining us around the fire, chewing coca, and dreaming up global solutions.
