Hey guys,
This is a 3 day trip on how to do Northern Queensland, Australia in style. First, we land at the Cairns airport and drive up to Port Douglas. Then we head even further North to the tropical Daintree Rainforest. There we have a swim in a nearby billabong (river bend). Then Jenna Rumney shows us around their tropical fruit farm. We see bidiba, breadfruit, miracle fruit, annona, jackfruit, bananas and more. Coconut ice cream is GOOD.
The next day we go snorkeling with Calypso Reef Cruises. These guys were great. We see amazing coral, turtles, fishes and a lot more cool stuff. Also, we learn a lot about the history of the Great Barrier Reef. V and Shannon do express to me later on how much climate change has affected the GBR. It used to be much different, alive and vibrant. This deeply saddened me.
The next day we went Stand Up Paddle (SUP) boarding on the Mossman River with four dogs. On a hot afternoon, there is nothing better than jumping in that cold water and splashing around. Jenna even has a howling session with one of the dogs.
Then we pack up and do a quick and short tour of Cairns, Australia. Checking out the free public barbecues and the helicopters. It's amazing.
Finally we fly back to the Gold Coast of Australia. If you stick around until the end, you'll hear a message from an important leader in the effort to save the Great Barrier Reef, John Rumney.

Tonys Tropical Tours of the Daintree Rainforest Australia
The stretch from the Daintree River to Cape Tribulation is one of the most visited areas of the Daintree Rainforest and for many visitors this is as far as they venture to.
Further north though is the Bloomfield Track, a good 33kms of off road driving from Cape Tribulation to The Bloomfield Falls. The road follows on to Cooktown. This area is one that many locals and visitors alike never experience. The coastal drive is full of spectacular beaches, views, creek and river crossings, majestic trees and history.
West of Port Douglas is the Great Diving Range which leads to the Atherton Tablelands via the Rex Range. The road begins just north of Port Douglas and meanders along the Rex Range climbing about 800 metres above sea level. The Atherton Tablelands has much to offer and makes a great day out.

Australia | Port Douglas. Daintree Rainforest and Cape Tribulation with Tony's Tropical Tours.
Let's address the spider in the room because it gets first billing. Walter put his backpack in the closet like any other normal human. This little arachnid decided to hang out in there as we set about going to the Daintree rainforest (amazing), tried to climb perilous cliffs by the sea (somewhat like a billy goat), and spent a lovely morning eating breakfast by the beach. The spider laid in wait and when the vacation was over it decided to strike! Thankfully our adventure in the Daintree Rainforest was mostly spider-free and we had a great time with Tony's Tropical tours.
Travel Australia with Kids - A family trip to Port Douglas, the Daintree and Cape Tribulation
Lots of family friendly things to do in Tropical North Queensland - we drove from Cairns to Cape Tribulation and stayed at PKs Jungle Village. It's about 2.5 hours from Cairns and feels a million miles away from everything. The rainforest meets the reef and the scenery is stunning - you can see crocodiles in the wild and maybe spot Cassowaries (and dinosaurs!) roaming through the forest. Ride a steam train, hand feed emus and wallabies, take a river cruise and eat amazing ice cream!
Check out the blog for more details and write ups on the best things to do when visiting.
PORT DOUGLAS QUEENSLAND AUSTRALIA. daintree
Port Douglas is town in Far North Queensland, Australia, approximately 80km north of Cairns. Its population was 4000 residents in 2001 (2001 Australian Census). The town's population can often quadruple, however, with the influx of tourists during the peak tourism season May-September. The town is named in honour of former Premier of Queensland, John Douglas. Port Douglas developed quickly based on the mining industry, other parts of the area were established with timber cutting occurring in the area surrounding the Daintree River and with settlement starting to occur on lots around the Mossman River by 1880.
Previous names for the town included Terrigal, Island Point, Port Owen and Salisbury. The town is situated adjacent to two World Heritage areas, the Great Barrier Reef and the Daintree Rainforest. On 4 September 2006, entertainer and Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin died at Batt Reef, off Port Douglas, after a stingray barb went through his chest into his heart whilst Irwin and his crew were filming a documentary called The Ocean's Deadliest[1]. Irwin was filmed snorkelling directly above the stingray when it lashed him with its its tail, embedding its poisonous barb. Irwin pulled the barb out himself then died almost immediately.

A Tourist's Guide to Port Douglas, Queensland, Australia
We jump in the hire car from Cairns. En Route to Port Douglas, we stop off at the towns of Kuranda and Mareeba (for feed the wallabies) and then find ourselves in gorgeous Port Douglas.
The next day we take a trip to the Daintree Rainforest.
Australia: Port Douglas to Cape Tribulation
Traveling Australia, Port Douglas to Cape Tribulation. If you're looking for a tropical getaway on your next vacation, checkout Queensland's far north coast! Situated on the fringe of the world's oldest rainforest. The Daintree stretches along a ribbon of coastline and white sandy beaches that kiss the Great Barrier Reef.
Port Douglas is a small beach town with friendly locals, great accommodations, tasty eateries and fun shopping. The town is easy to walk with most of the food, shopping and several hotels situated around the main street, Macrossan. The main grocery store is Coles in the town center, a small Food Works is also nearby. Accommodations typically cost more in this popular vacation town, so it's a good idea to shop around online for cheaper deals. We like Agoda, Booking, Trip Advisor, and Wotif.
Cape Tribulation is an awe-inspiring experience. Getting there is easy, from Port Douglas take the Cook Highway north and follow the signs to the Cape Tribulation ferry, it's $23 roundtrip. No need for a 4x4 if you stay on the main road. This region is truly where the Daintree rainforest meets the Great Barrier Reef. Explore the area by taking a bush walk (there are several great walk paths and boardwalks) or relax on the white sand beaches. Cape Tribulation has a handful of accommodations but a day trip from Port Douglas is a great option and we found a full day to be a good amount of time to see the sights.
Thanks for watching!
xoxo,
Christine
