Escaped Inmate Suspected in Killing Near Pennsylvania Jail
Police searched Friday for an inmate they say walked away from a work-release program while serving jail time for a probation violation, killed an acquaintance who lived nearby, then took off in a stolen truck. Authorities said Robert Crissman, 38, escaped from the Armstrong County jail on Thursday morning while delivering meals to other inmates. The body of Tammy Long was discovered Thursday afternoon at a home about a mile away from the jail in Kittanning, which is 40 miles northeast of Pittsburgh. Officials and a neighbor said Long and her boyfriend knew Crissman but were unaware he'd just escaped from jail when they let him inside. Armstrong County District Attorney Scott Andreassi says Crissman should be considered to be extremely dangerous.

Cop Tases Handcuffed Man
There is a fine line between maintaining the peace and police brutality. That’s what we’re learning from another controversial case in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Thomas Smith was already in handcuffs and sitting down when Officer Nicole Murphy unleashed her taser on him. According to Murphy’s police report, Smith was bumping his head against a desk, and thats when she decided to pulled out her weapon. She says she only used the taser to protect him from splitting his head wide open. But instead of a head injury, Smith suffered injuries to the arms, back and lasting nerve damage. To this day, his attorney says Smith is forced to deal with psychological issues.
Here’s the troubling part: According to their initial reports, police arrested Smith for disorderly conduct, public drunkenness, resisting arrest, and aggravated harassment. Smith says he was just taking a nap on some church steps, when some officers woke him up and startled him.
Now, the police have dropped the harassment and resisting arrest charges, admitting that he was not a threat to the officers. In fact, Smith might have already been suffering from pre-existing medical conditions before the police even woke him up. Smith’s mother says her son has battled depression and bipolar disorder, and the stun gun has only made matters worse. It certainly hasn’t helped him, on his road to recovery.
We still don’t know exactly who caught the incident on film, but this is just one more example of police backing off of their charges after video evidence proves them wrong. Another lasting question still revolves around the taser. Is it okay to use a stun gun on someone to stop self harm? Think about that. In order to stop someone from experiencing harm, should police be able to send 50 thousand volts of electricity through your body? It doesn’t take a doctor to see the hypocrisy there. And how hard would it be for police officers to safely stabilize a man already in restraints?
All of those questions are a part of Smith’s lawsuit. He filed seeking over 75 thousand dollars in damages. The victim also says paramedics and other officers stood and laughed, while Murphy assaulted him with excessive force. All because of two public intoxication and disorderly conduct. The updated police reports clearly state, Smith never one time posed a danger to anyone besides himself.
What we do know is this: in every instance, when video evidence is available, police are held accountable for their actions. Without that video footage, victims like Thomas Smith could not only be forced to suffer physical pain, but could very easily be put behind bars for a crime he didn’t commit.

16 At Large After Tunnel Prison Break
According to CNN, Sixteen of 29 inmates are still on the run after they made an audacious escape by tunneling underneath a Mexican prison wall. Tamaulipas state secretariat of security said Saturday that the inmates escaped Thursday from a prison in Ciudad Victoria. Following the escape, security officials destroyed unauthorized shelters constructed by inmates on prison grounds and searched cells.
In reaction to those efforts, a riot broke out in the prison Friday night. Three inmates were stabbed to death and one was injured. The inmates set debris on fire during the riot, but the flames were put out within an hour. The tunnel was sealed with concrete Saturday.

Close Encounter With a Rattlesnake While Hiking | *Startle Warning* | Close Ups
Don't do what I did! Always keep a safe distance from and always try to avoid venomous snakes at all cost. I was a bit daring here, so I assumed the irresponsible risk of my actions. Though, I never once allowed any part of my body to get closer than 5 feet to the snake once I was aware of its presence. I had long, telescoping legs on my tripod that allowed me to maneuver the camera, hands-free, to within a few inches of the snake. The snake understandably did not like to be bothered by my camera.
So, I was out hiking in Robert Louis Stevenson State Park in north Napa County, enjoying the warm spring day, when I was exploring the perimeter of this rocky outcropping. I stepped up onto a rock and was about to step over it, when in my direct path 4 feet away from me, was a Northern Pacific Rattlesnake. I instantly recognized what it was, even though it was neatly camouflaged with the other rocks. I first noticed its fat body and dark gray tone, typical tone of Rattlers in my county. Instant red flag for me!
Now, I have been hiking for 30 years and this is the first time ever, that I have seen a rattlesnake while hiking. But, I have trained myself to ALWAYS be alert for snakes and to always look out for them and recognize them as rattlesnakes vs other non-venomous species. And in snake territory and during snake weather, I always hike with snakebite proof boots. Having situational awareness, being alert for snakes at all times and wearing my boots, saved my butt today, quite literally. This experience was exhilarating, adrenaline laced and reinforced my respect for things that can hurt me.
Let me share some hiking best practices tips I've learned. When you are out hiking in venomous snake territory during snake season (some places are snake season year-round):
*Always watch your step
*Never put your hands or feet where you cannot see
*Step ON logs and rocks, not over them
*Don't grab anything that looks like a stick, it could be a snake
*Be even more careful and observant around rock piles, logs, rocky outcroppings and tall grass
*Avoid walking too close to a place where a snake might be hiding out of view
*Be careful around rocky ledges where a snake could be sunbathing and within striking range of your mid-upper body.
*If you see a venomous snake, STOP! Avoid it altogether. Allow it to escape. Keep your hands, feet and body as far from it as possible.
*Be aware that rattlesnakes blend in with their surroundings too well. REALLY look for them to make sure there isn't one you're not seeing
*Never let your guard down
*Hike with a long hiking stick or pole, so you can probe areas you're about to walk into
*Wear snake-bite proof boots
