Laughlin Colorado River & Beach - VIDEO PREVIEW (Laughlin, NV)
We decided to take a stroll to the beach on the colorado river in Laughlin, NV! It's sounds kinda bizarre lol, but it's a really thriving place! Jet skis, beaches, areas for swimming, kayaks, canoes, and of course, casinos on the riverside!
------------------------
Laughlin is an unincorporated town and census-designated place in Clark County, Nevada, United States, and a port located on the Colorado River. Laughlin is 90 miles (140 km) south of Las Vegas, located in the far southern tip of Nevada. It is best known for its gaming, entertainment, and water recreation. As of the 2010 census, the population was 7,323. The nearby communities of Bullhead City, Arizona; Needles, California; Fort Mohave, Arizona; and Mohave Valley, Arizona, bring the Laughlin area's total population to about 100,000.Laughlin was named for Don Laughlin, an Owatonna, Minnesota, native who purchased the southern tip of Nevada in 1964 (informally called South Pointe). At the time, Don Laughlin operated the 101 Club in Las Vegas. He opened what would become the Riverside Resort, and later wanted to call the community Riverside or Casino, but the post office opted for Laughlin instead.Laughlin is advertised as a family-friendly destination. Being located on the river, outdoor and family activities are emphasized. Many of the casinos that line the Colorado River are linked by an unofficial pedestrian thoroughfare known as the Laughlin Riverwalk.
The Colorado River is one of the principal rivers (along with the Rio Grande) in the Southwestern United States and northern Mexico. The 1,450-mile-long (2,330 km) river drains an expansive, arid watershed that encompasses parts of seven U.S. and two Mexican states. Starting in the central Rocky Mountains of Colorado, the river flows generally southwest across the Colorado Plateau and through the Grand Canyon before reaching Lake Mead on the Arizona–Nevada border, where it turns south toward the international border. After entering Mexico, the Colorado approaches the mostly dry Colorado River Delta at the tip of the Gulf of California between Baja California and Sonora.
Known for its dramatic canyons, whitewater rapids, and eleven U.S. National Parks, the Colorado River and its tributaries are a vital source of water for 40 million people. The river and its tributaries are controlled by an extensive system of dams, reservoirs, and aqueducts, which in most years divert its entire flow for agricultural irrigation and domestic water supply. Its large flow and steep gradient are used for generating hydroelectric power, and its major dams regulate peaking power demands in much of the Intermountain West. Intensive water consumption has dried up the lower 100 miles (160 km) of the river, which has rarely reached the sea since the 1960s.Beginning with small bands of nomadic hunter-gatherers, Native Americans have inhabited the Colorado River basin for at least 8,000 years. Between 2,000 and 1,000 years ago, the watershed was home to large agricultural civilizations – considered some of the most sophisticated indigenous North American cultures – which eventually declined due to a combination of severe drought and poor land use practices. Most native peoples that inhabit the region today are descended from other groups that settled there beginning about 1,000 years ago. Europeans first entered the Colorado Basin in the 16th century, when explorers from Spain began mapping and claiming the area, which became part of Mexico upon its independence in 1821. Early contact between Europeans and Native Americans was generally limited to the fur trade in the headwaters and sporadic trade interactions along the lower river.

Rapids Below Laughlin
Please be advised, explicit language (1 cuss word) just before entering the rapid.
I ran a pulse flow out of Davis Dam on the morning that I launched from Davis Camp. The excess flow in the river creates a chute and a hydrolic just below the Lauglin strip. Normally running a rapid like this isn't a problem, but when the kayak is loaded with 100+ pounds of gear then it isn't the most nimble of kayaks. I definitely wasn't expecting that on that morning.

This is a bird's eye view of the incredibly green Fremont Cottonwoods along my banks. In the spring, they're just so...green! The large island near the end of the video is Otter Island, and the diversion dam and ditch at the end of the island is the Cottonwood Ditch. Notice that the ditch is still allowing a lot of water to bypass -- which is great for my fish, birds, frogs and invertebrates. Thanks again Cottonwood Ditch!
COLORADO RIVER - CA/NV/AZ Border - (Part 2)
WE ARE AMERICA! - On Labor Day Weekend 2018, I went down to Laughlin, NV to see Peter Frampton on Saturday night. But First, had to do some flying on the Colorado River. Went down to the Tri-State Border of California, Nevada and Arizona about 45 minutes south of Laughlin. To my surprise, the AVI Casino was having a celebration at their beach, including many boaters. I must say, that I was just winging it, but some of the shots look planned out, but were not. Good Karma I Guess. LOL!
Hiking Grape Vine Canyon in Laughlin NV | BullheadBytheHorns | We lose our minds
Grape Vine Canyon is one of the most scenic areas in our community, and hiking it is one of the most rewarding ways to get some light to moderate exercise. We hiked to the back of the canyon where you can find an impressive waterfall after rain storms. This hike requires some scrambling and is not recommended for everyone. know your own limits, don't travel alone, and let others know where you are going to be before you leave.
Share this video with your friends to challenge them to make it all the way to the back of the canyon with you.

Hidden Lake, Buckeye, Arizona - Recreation/Events
Hidden Lake is a private 120 acre outdoor recreation destination, live music venue, and events center, located in Maricopa County, Arizona just west of the Phoenix metro area. Bordered by thousands of acres of protected riparian area, we offer a wide variety of healthy, active, outdoor entertainment for all ages. After more than two years of extensive environmental remediation and habitat reconstruction, Hidden Lake is once again one of the valley’s most idyllic places to fish, paddleboard, kayak, hike, camp, and just relax.
The highlight of Hidden Lake is clearly our 60+ acres of trophy fishing waters, but don’t miss our live music and special events at TopWater, our music, bar, and events area. It is hard to imagine a more beautiful or fun night out than watching the sun set over the lake while enjoying the best local bands and food trucks the valley has to offer. As our First Friday and special events are always well attended, be sure to bring a blanket or folding chair as most of our seating is usually pre-reserved or fills up quickly. For reserved seating call 623-777-5814.
Hidden Lake also offers one of the valley’s only private lakes where you can host your own corporate event, wedding, holiday party, or any other special event, and we can easily accommodate groups well in excess of 1,000 people.
As we continue to work on restoring the natural environment around the lake each and everyday, Hidden Lake is becoming increasingly more spectacular and dramatic. As other area lakes, rivers and recreational sites are being adversely impacted by our state’s rapidly increasing population, Hidden Lake works hard to maintain a safe, clean environment for hard-core anglers, nature enthusiasts, and families to enjoy.
