Cape town visit
The Company's Garden is a park and heritage site[1] located in central Cape Town. The garden was originally created in the 1650s by the region's first European settlers and provided fertile ground to grow fresh produce to replenish ships rounding the Cape. It is watered from the Molteno Dam, which uses water from the springs on the lower slopes of Table Mountain.
About Cape town:
Cape Town is a coastal city in South Africa. It is the second-most populous urban area in South Africa after Johannesburg. It is also the capital and primate city of the Western Cape province.
As the seat of the Parliament of South Africa, it is also the legislative capital of the country. It forms part of the City of Cape Town metropolitan municipality. The city is famous for its harbour, for its natural setting in the Cape Floristic Region, and for such well-known landmarks as Table Mountain and Cape Point.
As of 2014, it is the 10th most populous city in Africa and home to 64% of the Western Cape's population. It is one of the most multicultural cities in the world, reflecting its role as a major destination for immigrants and expatriates to South Africa. The city was named the World Design Capital for 2014 by the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design.
In 2014, Cape Town was named the best place in the world to visit by both the American New York Times and the British Daily Telegraph. Located on the shore of Table Bay, Cape Town, as the oldest urban area in South Africa, was first developed by the Dutch East India Company as a victualling station for Dutch ships sailing to East Africa, India, and the Far East. Jan van Riebeeck's arrival on 6 April 1652 established the first permanent European settlement in South Africa. Cape Town quickly outgrew its original purpose as the first European outpost at the Castle of Good Hope, becoming the economic and cultural hub of the Cape Colony. Until the Witwatersrand Gold Rush and the development of Johannesburg, Cape Town was the largest city in South Africa.

Spotlight on South African Architects
This morning we are placing the spotlight on South African Architects and this was prompted by an email sent to us by a group of architects calling themselves Architects for change. The movement has raised concerns over how the body the South African Council for the Architectural Professions that governs architects is run and one of the concerns is how the Council has grown from a staff of three to one of 39. To help us unpack this and other issues we've invited members of Architects for Change. Dr Kuda Mucharambeyi and C as well as the President of South African Council for the Architectural Profession Yashaen Luckan.

Cape Town
Cape Town, South Africa is known as the Mother City and has much to offer visitors . To make things easier we thought we would put together a video showing some Cape Town attractions you might be interested in seeing.
There are few places in the world where you can get up close to penguins like you can at Boulders Beach. This penguin colony is near Simonstown. There are two sections, one with boardwalks and viewing areas. The other allows visitors to share a beach with penguins.
Camps Bay is one of the trendiest parts of Cape Town. It has a great beach, plenty of restaurants and a terrific view on the sunsets. It is set against the Twelve Apostles. This is a mountain ridge that joins with Table Mountain, which separates Camps Bay from the centre of Cape Town.
The Victoria and Alfred Watefront (or V and A) is the most popular attraction South Africa with regard to numbers. It has a good choice of restaurants, bars, shops and accommodation. Many of Cape Town's top hotels are here.
If you want to visit Nelson Mandela's prison cell on Robben Island you can catch a boat from here.
Cape Town is surrounded by the Cape Winelands. There are mountains and valleys so the scenery is worth the visit by itself. You can also stop at winefarms for tasting sessions. The oldest winefarm, Groot Constantia, is in the Constantia area.
Hout Bay is within easy reach of the city centre and still operates as a fishing port. The best way to reach here is by taking the scenic Chapman's Peak drive. There are boat tours here to Seal Island just off the coast. This is a seal colony on a rocky outcrop.
For nature-lovers there is also Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. This sits on the slopes of Devil's Peak and is again not far from Cape Town city centre. It has only indigenous plants and many Capetonians bring picnics here or enjoy one of the concerts held in the gardens.
Company's Garden is a park in the centre of Cape Town. Around it are museums and the Parliament Building. This is where early Dutch settlers grew fruit and vegetables for passing ships. It is within reach of the bars of Long Street.
Cape Point is situated in the world heritage site that is the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve. It has an incredible range of flora and fauna. This is where many of the early explorers landed. You can go to the lighthouse and look down on the tip of the peninsula.
Table Mountain dominates the skyline in Cape Town. You can either hike up to the top or take a cable car. The top is flat(hence the name) so you can take a number of walking trails, but make sure you check the weather ahead of your visit.
At we have dozens of video guides on Cape Town. We also have information on Cape Town hotels and accommodation.
