Sailing Around Plymouth Devon (Short Film)

Plymouth1620 2020 walkthrough
The exhibit directs visitors along two pathways that reveal the dual perspectives of the Wampanoag people and English colonists.
Our job is to create unforgettable experiences for visitors – all of them perceiving the world through biological senses. We stimulate those senses through purposeful content and design. In the Wetu Theater aromatics help set the scene for this visitor experience. Upon entering the quiet, dim theater, the visitor hears the sound of crackling fire and detects the smell of burning sweetgrass.
When interpreting the story line for Plymouth 1620-2020 we highlight the grit, inventiveness, and tenacity of the Wampanoag and (mostly) English colonists. When we engage visitors of all ages with interactive exhibits and object-based interpretation, we are always working to strike a balance between the hook needed to draw the visitor into the exhibit area, and the accurate historical message it is based on. All the media used in the exhibit, from murals to gestural interface technologies, are in service of the content.
In the case of the The Voyage to America, exhibit visitors enter a full size replica of a small area of one of the cargo holds of the Mayflower where the colonists made the crossing from England. Visitors experience a rolling deck, the high-pitched whistle of storm winds, sounds of lashing rain, and creaking of timbers in distress. In Bradford’s journal we learn “In sundry of these storms the winds were so fierce and the seas so high they could not bear a knot of sail”. One shipboard sound is worse than the others, a deeper more sinister sudden creaking sound, some shouts go up. This is “..one of the main beams in the midships which was bowed and cracked” (Bradford, Of Plymouth Plantation) and the passengers help the crew decide to continue their journey by lending the services of “..great iron screw the passengers brought out of Holland”. This fact is an instance where circumstances cross the centuries. Anyone who has experienced a flat tire on a car trip, had a large tree branch fall on the house, or huddled in the dark during a power outage can perhaps relate to this experience on some level. The Voyage to America immersion experience drives home an important exhibit idea: great faith and courage where needed to make this crossing.
Come see the prequel and sequel to this experience, Plymouth 1620-2020 is available for booking in the fall of 2016.
Plymouth, United Kingdom
Plymouth is famous for the Mayflower, despite the fact that the Pilgrims actually set sail from Southampton and ended up in Plymouth because of a problem. However, Plymouth definitely markets the connection. The Mayflower steps are near the harbour (but ask a local about the authenticity!)
I suggest you take a boat ride.
Plymouth is a fun town. Check it out.

The Fairmile sailing from Dartmouth UK to Slapton Sands, Torcross and Blackpool Sands.
With boat trips, ferry services, sightseeing cruises and excursions departing from Torquay, Brixham, Dartmouth, Dittisham and Totnes - Taking to the water is a must when visiting South Devon's beautiful bay home to the towns of Torquay and Brixham, or the South Hams picturesque port of Dartmouth or the medieval town of Totnes - so why not do it in style aboard the largest ship sailing in the area WW2 Heritage Ship 'Fairmile' or one of our other twelve vessels. Whether taking the ferry between Torquay or Brixham, jumping aboard the family friendly wildlife Seafari Cruise in search of dolphins, seals and natures wild little friends or of course visiting the home of the late Dame Agatha Christie at Greenway on a hill towering over the beautiful and serene River Dart by 1940's ship or vintage bus - services to Greenway House are available from Totnes, Dittisham and Dartmouth as frequent as every hour, Torquay and Brixham one service per day. If that wasn't enough why not have a go at fishing aboard one of our lucky catch boats. Finally a visit to the English Riviera wouldn't be the same without a cruise to Dartmouth our South Hams neighbour, the famous ancient naval riverside town - and what better way than by ship, landing you there for a few hours prior to returning. Our Dartmouth Ferry departs from Dartmouth at 2pm - History buffs will delight in taking part aboard the WW2 Grand Heritage Voyage or Premier Gold Cruise launched by HRH The Princess Royal which in addition to landing in Dartmouth (for those whom have joined from Torquay and Brixham) extends your trip for an afternoon sail to Slapton Sands, Torcross and Blackpool Sands where Exercise Tiger took place - the full scale rehearsal for the D'Day landings. Greenway Ferry and Pleasure Cruises offer a wide range of family boat trips which start in the English Riviera ports of Torquay (Princess Pier) and Brixham or the South Hams ports of Dartmouth, Totnes, Dittisham and Greenway. With thirteen vessels to choose from and being a Visit England award winning Quality Visitor Attraction and a member of Devon and the English Riviera Top Attractions you can relax in the knowledge that you will have a truly memorable experience for all the right reasons. So sit back, relax and enjoy a trip! You can even hire one of our boats, just for you! Music by Rick Clarke.

Sailing the UK south coast, Dartmouth to Torbados (Torquay) - SV sea cactus
We continue to sail East, leaving Dartmouth and heading up to torquay, which im reliably told is called Torbados
The wind was with us again for the majority of the trip (when there was wind) so it was much nicer sailing conditions
although that said the wind wasnt as strong as id like and it meant there was some idle googling of random torquay facts while en route as the sailing wasnt very pressing, i guess we're getting used to this as it was still blowing 14knots and we wanted more wind! 4.5knots wasnt quite the same as 6knots sailing!
i hope you enjoy the episode, please give it a thumbs up if you did, also don't forget to follow us on Facebook for live updates
