Our trip started with a two hour train ride on the White Pass - Yukon Route into the Yukon Territory in Canada. We boarded in Skagway and traveled north to a summit elevation of 2865 feet at the White Pass summit.
There we got our bikes and started down on our 15 mile bike trip.

JEEP from Skagway to the Yukon
The camera, set on Central Time thought these opening shots (in the port of Juneau) were shot 3 hours later in the day, on June 11....But, From the Port, a good look around town, and then getting into our rented Jeep for the drive to the Yukon Territory. From Skagway, it's only about 65 miles, doesn't take long - but we were entirely independent, so it really was the highlight of the trip

The Red Onion Saloon, in Skagway, Alaska
The Red Onion Saloon originally opened for business in 1898 at the height of the Klondike Gold Rush, and was considered Skagway’s most exclusive bordello at the time. It was built by planks cut by Captain William Moore, the founder of Skagway, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Landmarks.
A Seattle saloon man, Peter Lawson, built the Red Onion during the fall of 1898 and opened it as Skagway's largest dance hall and saloon. Upstairs was a brothel, a higher class parlor than the adjacent cribs on Yokohama Row and Paradise Alley.
The Red Onion was moved in 1914
with one horse from Sixth and State Street to
its current Broadway location. Interestingly, the
Onion was dragged around the corner backwards and the front and back of the building had to be removed in order to switch them.

Skagway, Alaska Cruise Port Guide: White Pass & Yukon Route Railway
The White Pass and Yukon Route Railway is a popular attraction for cruise guests visiting Skagway, Alaska. Completed in 1900, the railroad was the primary means of transportation for prospectors travelling over the White Pass to the goldfields in the Yukon.
The “White Pass Summit Excursion” allows guests to ride in vintage-style passenger cars along the same route as gold prospectors of the past while seeing spectacular views, gold rush points of interest, and more. The narrated tour takes about two-and-a-half hours as the train travels forty miles round-trip to the White Pass summit at 2,888 feet in elevation.

Skagway Alaska Excursion
These were some of the highlights of our cruise excursion at the small town of Skagway, Alaska. Our guide was full of information and stories, especially regarding an infamous outlaw named Soapy Smith. After the tour we walked around town- very interesting place! Skagway Hike and Float | Alaska Cruise Excursion
On our Alaska cruise in Skagway, Alaska we decided to do a hike and float tour excursion with Skagway Shore Tours. The hike on the Chilkoot Trail with a raft float down the Taiya River was the perfect way to explore nature in this beautiful Alaskan town.
We hiked two miles up (and we do mean UP) the Chilkoot Trail. The elevation was so steep in a few place they have added steps to help tourists like us make it through. Can you believe men used to do this trail with tons of gear strapped to their back in order to cross to the gold rich areas of the Yukon? It was crazy! The float down the river after the hike was the perfect recovery while watching beautiful scenery pass by.
