Discovery Passage Aquarium in Campbell River, British Columbia
Last week we took a wonderful vacation to Vancouver Island in Canada. One of our day trips was to Campbell River and the Discovery Passage Aquarium, where we got a personal tour, and I took lots of pictures.
They are a non-profit, catch and release aquarium, which means they collect local specimens in the spring and release them back into the wild in the fall. Livestock is collected from local piers, tide pools, and by local divers; and the tanks are fed a continuous supply of water right from the ocean. In addition to the display tanks, they have an impressive touch tank that lets visitors interact with many of the native species in the area.

Pacific Spiny Dogfish in Campbell River
12 July 2017: Ocean Networks Canada's community observatory located in Discovery Passage, Campbell River, recently captured several Pacific spiny dogfish swimming in the area.
Pacific spiny dogfish (Squalus suckleyi) is a common species of the Squalidae (dogfish) family of sharks, which is part of the Squaliformes order.
