Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the travel bug! We started “travel hacking” & finally decided we wanted to travel for one year. After 2 years of saving $ and over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016. We started this YouTube channel to share our experiences with friends and family, then decided we really liked vlogging and traveling! So we extended our 1 year trip to now FOUR years :) Now we have a goal of traveling to 100 countries before 2020! We are incredibly thankful to do something we love every day. :)
Scuba diving the longest underwater river system | Yucatan Peninsula, Playa Del Carmen, Mexico
#HighOnLife #HOLInspired #Mexico
Imagine deep underneath your feet are these dark caves that stretch on for hundreds of miles. Now imagine that these caves have been completely submerged in water for thousands and thousands of years. And that to navigate these caves, you’ve gotta scuba dive into it with flashlights. Pretty interesting right? According to our diving expert Kenzo, this was on the must-do, must-see list when we got back to Playa del Carmen.
Big thanks to El Taj Oceanfront and Beachside for hosting us.
Stay where we did:
The Yucatan Penisula is believed to be home of the longest underwater river system in the world. Watch as we explore Playa Del Carmen, scuba diving into a new world of hidden caves, sharks, cenotes and much more adventure.
Special thanks to Tank-Ha for taking us scuba diving.

DOS OJOS CENOTE SCUBA DIVING IN TULUM MEXICO
Dos Ojos Cenote is a magical place for scuba diving just outside of Tulum. It's one of the many Cenotes in the Yucatan Peninsula, and has a reputation for beautiful diving and snorkeling. Mexico is an incredible country and the entire Riviera Maya has so many unique and amazing dive sites. If you're not certified you're missing out. Half of the appeal of this part of the world is Underwater!
Tulum is not too far from Cancun or Playa del Carmen, you can take a collectivo (a local taxi van) for very cheap to travel along the coast. Once you're there, you can see a lot around the town, and there are several cenotes to visit. Taxi's aren't too bad once your there, and there are a lot of dive shops that will take you to the cenotes. I went with Infinity2diving, their info is a little bit lower on the list!
I arrived here with the expectation of getting my Cave Diving certification, it turns out there is a type of diving called Cavern Diving. This means you never leave the guide line, and you always are able to see ambient light. This was enough for me, as on several of these dives we were well underground, with only a faint glow in the distance of sunlight. You have to be an advanced scuba diver to be allowed to participate in this type of dive. I highly recommend you get certified that high!

Divers discover 215-mile-long cave in Mexico full of Mayan relics
A group of divers have connected two underwater caverns in eastern Mexico to reveal what is believed to be the biggest flooded cave on the planet, a discovery that could help shed new light on the ancient Maya civilisation.
The Gran Acuifero Maya, (GAM) a project dedicated to the study and preservation of the subterranean waters of the Yucatan peninsula, said the 347 kilometre- (216 mile-) cave was identified after months of exploring a maze of underwater channels.
Near the beach resort of Tulum, the group found that the cave system known as Sac Actun, once measured at 263 km (163 miles), communicated with the 83 km- (52 km-) Dos Ojos system, the GAM said in a statement. For that reason, Sac Actun now absorbs Dos Ojos.
The Yucatan peninsula of Mexico is studded with monumental relics of the Maya people, whose cities drew upon an extensive network of sinkholes linked to subterranean waters known as cenotes.
Some cenotes acquired particular religious significance to the Maya, whose descendants continue to inhabit the region.

DIVING THE GRAN CENOTE, Tulum Mexico
Haven't posted in a while so here's a quick video of a day we spent exploring the Cenotes in Tulum Mexico, specifically 'The Gran Cenote'. Tip, for a better experience go early in the morning like we did to avoid the crowds.
This Cenote is the main entrance of Sistema Sac Actun which is currently the 2nd longest underwater cave system in the world with over 176km of mapped and surveyed passages and over 130 interconnecting cenotes within the system. One place you DON'T want to get lost whilst diving.

Awesome Dive at Temple of Doom, Cenote Calavera - Tulum, Mexico
The Temple of Doom (cenote Calavera), is completely different from other caverns in the area. The input passes through a circular hole in the rock surface and the adventure begins almost immediately as you have to jump about 3 meters to the water surface. The area of the cave is a huge room with a pile of collapsed sediment and rocks in the center. During the dive, divers make their way around the hill, diving at different depths along the walls of the cenote. There is enough light in the cave and many fossils to be discovered. Look towards the entrance and imagination can recognize the “Skull”. The light passing through holes in the sky creates an effect of two eyes and a mouth. Its awesome to whitness the effects of the halocline where the fresh water mix with the salt water.

Under World’s Deepest Cave, These Divers Found Something Even Greater…
Gran Acuifero Maya (GAM), a subaquatic exploration team, had been working to find something for over a decade, and on January 10, 2018, their search was over. The team discovered two underwater caverns in Tulum, Mexico that are interconnected. Together, the two systems make up the world’s largest underwater cave. But this find was not an easy task.
