DIVING in the Cayman ISLANDS
The Cayman Islands are a British dependency and island country. It is a three-island archipelago in the Caribbean Sea, consisting of Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac, and Little Cayman. Georgetown, the capital of the Cayman Islands is 438 km (272 mi) south of Havana, Cuba,[1] and 504 km (313 mi) northwest of Kingston, Jamaica,[2] northeast of Costa Rica, north of Panama and are between Cuba and Central America. Georgetown’s geographic coordinates are 19.300° north, 81.383° west.[2]
The Cayman Islands have a land area of 264 km2 (102 sq mi) approximately 1.5 times the size of Washington, D.C. and just 3 km2 (1.2 sq mi) larger than Saint Kitts and Nevis. The Cayman Islands have a coastline of 160 km (99 mi). The Cayman Islands make a maritime claim of a 200-nautical-mile (370.4 km; 230.2 mi) exclusive fishing zone and a territorial sea of 12 nautical miles (22.2 km; 13.8 mi).[3][4]
Geology
The islands are located on the Cayman Rise which forms the northern margin of the Cayman Trough. The trough is the deepest point in the Caribbean Sea and forms part of the tectonic boundary between the North American Plate and the Caribbean Plate. The Cayman Rise extends from southeastern Cuba along the northern margin of the Cayman Trough toward Costa Rica and resulted from Paleocene to Eocene island arc formation with associated volcanism along an extinct subduction zone.[5] The islands are formed of marine limestone and dolostone that was uplifted during the late Miocene epoch.[6] Due to the Islands' location, the Cayman Islands do get earthquakes.
Environmental issues
An important environmental issue is the lack of fresh water resources. Drinking water supplies must be met by rainwater catchment and desalination. In addition there is also a problem with trash washing up on the beaches or being deposited by there by residents. The Cayman Islands have no recycling or waste treatment facilities.[11]
Cayman Brac: True Caribbean Wilderness
Gamersbay Cayman:
On my first day in the Cayman Islands I got to visit their most remote island named Cayman Brac. It has a very small population, doesn't get a lot of tourism, and is largely unsettled. We went to see the bat caves, coral rock bluff cliffs, and had a chance to host an educational workshop with local children.
The water process in Cayman
Fresh water, so crucial and so scarce in nature, has always been the lifeblood of a prospering community, and advances in desalination technology have been the hidden engine fueling Cayman’s growth over the last few decades. Read the full story at caymancompass.com

Rotary Club of Grand Cayman Sunrise, Medical Trip to Honduras
On September 9th 2016, Volunteers from Rotary Central and the Rotaract Club of Grand Cayman decided to join Rotary Sunrise on their annual trip to Honduras to provide medical services and donations to the residents of Las Mangas & El Pital communities.
Doctors of Rotary Sunrise volunteered their time and resources to provide free medical services to these communities. the doctors and all the volunteers on this trip, fully funded their selves.
8:30 We all boarded the bus to make our way to Las Mangas, where the Main Guaruma office is located, once we arrived, the doctors took to their assigned rooms to setup their equipment, the nurses started to prep the patients, and setup the Temporary pharmacy.
A few Rotaractors from the Rotaract club of La Ceiba and San Pedro Sula stopped by to lend a hand physically and with translations, we rotated the tasks of sorting/distributing the donations and keep the kids entertained with various activities like face painting and coloring.
Later in the afternoon, Dr. John Lee organized a small class to show how lighting affects photos and how it can be used to your advantage. Adolfo Lopez, who is a Graduate and active member in the Guaruma organization, volunteered to be the translator for the well-attended session.
we finished around 4pm, and took the opportunity to tour the community. We visited a few small shops, stock up on supplies, while others went to a nearby river access for a quick swim, no matter where you turn, you cannot help but be captivated by the natural beauty of this country.
Day two was a repeat of the previous day however the location changed to El Pital, this is a further 8 – 10 kms down a dusty, pot-holed and in some places. Again, the doctors had long lines and donations were distributed.
Over the course of the two days, the doctors saw approximately 280 patients, thankfully none of the patients needed emergency care compared to previous years. Dr. Jefferson (General Practice) saw a variety of illnesses and disbursed many doses of anti-fungal, anti-inflammatories, antibiotics, etc.
We hope to pursue a Rotary Foundation Grant partnering with a La Ceiba Rotary Club to enable the Guaruma program to grow into other communities, in preliminary discussions with Guaruma, it is anticipated we would be looking for US$60,000.

South Sound | Grand Cayman | Cayman Islands Sotheby's International Realty
South Sound - Heading out to the east from George Town you will travel through South Church Street to South Sound, a tranquil community of family homes and condos with a strong neighbourhood feel, extending all the way along the coastline from George Town to the Hurley's Supermarket roundabout in Red Bay.
Here you will find a well-established selection of property with few remaining land lots for sale near to George Town but a plentiful supply as you head out east. Spacious family residences overlooking the breath-takingly beautiful South Sound coast sit next door with smart contemporary condominiums, while great value, charming homes, apartments and cottages are located inland from the coast.
Continue further east and you will find brand new, well-priced and well-designed apartments and condos which have been built along this stretch of coast with plenty of space for more real estate development the further east you travel.
Families in particular choose to live in South Sound because of the accessible and high quality amenities available to residents. Excellent sporting facilities exist along South Sound to meet the needs of the community, including Cayman's rugby, squash and tennis clubs, all within walking distance for most residents. Each club runs classes for youngsters either after school or at the weekend. A good many schools, from pre-school through to junior and high schools, are also located in the area, making the school drop off and commute into town a matter of minutes.
At the end of South Sound lies an up-and coming area of Grand Cayman called Grand Harbour, where shops, banks and restaurants abound. One of the largest skate parks in the world, known as The Black Pearl & frequented by such legendary skate boarders as Shaun White, is located here, as is an exceptionally good surf and wave machine. This is a popular spot for families to come to sit out and enjoy the amenities of the restaurants, cafes and bars while keeping an eye on their children having fun. The area is also home to Kings Sports Centre, another draw for youngsters who can enjoy skating, hockey and ten pin bowling there. Adults are also drawn to the establishment because of its excellent gym and other sporting facilities.
South Sound is the perfect place for families looking for a safe and happy neighbourhood in which to bring up their youngsters.
