Our visit to the Duddo Stone Circle:
Duddo Standing Stones
When ancients foretold of days long since grown old
About the land they knew so well
Of the power of the earth, let the spirit world unfold
These were the standing stones
These were the standing stones
Men stood alone in the shadow of the dawn
Waiting for the sun to rise
Felt the power of the gods shine down along the ground
They saw the standing stones
They felt the standing stones

Stone circles that are more beautiful than Stonehenge HD 2017 HD
Stone circles that are more beautiful than Stonehenge 2016 HD
Stonehenge in the west of England is undoubtedly the king of stone circles - stone monuments originally set out in a way to form a circle or ellipse.
However, it's easy to overlook the dozens of other stone circles which can be found across the British Isles and even as far afield as Israel. We gathered some other stone circles - one of which is underwater - that demonstrate the diversity of neolithic monuments.

Duddo Stones and Ros Castle (19th February 2017)
19th February 2017
A Marilyn is a mountain or hill in the United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland or Isle of Man with a prominence of at least 150 metres (492 ft), regardless of absolute height or other merit.
My daughter had been at me since our visit to Linhope Spout to climb Hedgehope Hill, The Cheviot, and/or Windy Gyle. These Northumberland Hewitts are all too much for her at the moment. But after doing the Marilyns, Ros Castle and Housedon Hill, I figured that she could probably manage Ros Castle.
However, in the morning I decided to take her to see Duddo Stones, probably Northumberland's best ancient stone circle remains. It is a place I have been meaning to take her for some time because she was doing prehistoric history at school before Christmas. Also she was fascinated with a new age witch on youtube who visited the stones and wanted to go too (I think in the hope of meeting a 'real witch'). see:
The weather was dry but very windy and it was very muddy underfoot.
After visiting Duddo Stones, we stopped off at Ford for lunch and to use the public toilets (that were closed... yeh... well done Ford - maybe they should take the road signs down advertising public toilets). After a brief toilet stop at Wooler, we headed to Ros Castle, a little south of Chillingham.
We parked up at the forestry carpark at Hepburn once more and initially my daughter wanted carrying up the hill. That lasted about 5 minutes until she found out that it was cheating if she didn't walk it herself.
The wind by this time was giving her earache... so I put her hood up to protect her ears from the wind. However, the weather remained dry and this time round we got to see the spectacular views from Ros Castle... making out Holy Island, the Farne Islands, and Bamburgh Castle quite easily. However, the higher Cheviots remained shrouded in cloud.
At first my daughter was a little tired and her ear was still paining her but she soon perked up and enjoyed exploring the summit. We descended initially by the official path but then cut across to the wall following a sheep path to avoid the mud at the bottom.
Now my daughter finally understands why I like peak bagging and wants to do some more summits in the future instead of waterfalls. However, our next couple of outings I have planned are to see waterfalls but will try and work out some more peaks for her to bag... Shillhope Law, Housedon Hill, and Middlehope Moor (from the road) are all doable for her and she might even manage Yeavering Bell, Killhope Law, and The Dodd at a push.
Well done to my daughter on bagging her first Marilyn. If a 5 year old can do it... I am sure you can... so get out and have an adventure of your own.

NEW Moorlands Stone Circle Discovered
The circle is the second largest on the moor and archaeologists believe it was probably part of a “sacred arc” of circles around the north-eastern edge.

Okehampton to Nine Maidens stone circle Day 1
Dartmoor
Devon
England

Got Train bus to Okehampton from there i headed towards Nine Maidens stone circle before that a Dog did a wee on my backpack.
Nine Maidens stone circle officially said to be a Bronze Age stone circle but there no way to date stone circles 100% you should keep that in mind. Also said to be a burial chamber however again is said the cairn has since been robbed and the cist destroyed not sure what the evidence is for that? Any care to comment.
Its is said that locals are said to be apprehensive of restoration work, believing that tamperers will be cursed. Locals cite a film crew which added a stone to the circle in 1985 - the 'curse' was the unfortunate loss of the only copy of the film The Circle of Doom. Any one with more info on that?
St Michael's ley-line runs through the Nine Maidens
A poem illustrating the folklore surrounding the stones is recorded in The Witchcraft and Folklore of Dartmoor by Ruth St Leger-Gordon, originally written by Eden Phillpotts in the Book of Avis trilogy
And now at every Hunter's Moon
That haggard cirque of stones so still
Awakens to immortal thrill
And seven small maidens in silver shoon
Twixt dark of night and white of day
Twinkle upon the sere old heath
Like living blossoms in a wreath
Then shrink again to granite grey.
So blue-eyed Dian shall ever dance
With Linnette, Bethkin, Jennifer,
Arisa, Petronell and Nance
