Jazz at 'The Old Duke' Pub - Bristol
Jazz is a music genre that originated in the African-American communities of New Orleans, United States,[1] in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and developed from roots in blues and ragtime.[2] Jazz is seen by many as America's classical music.[3] Since the 1920s Jazz Age, jazz has become recognized as a major form of musical expression. It then emerged in the form of independent traditional and popular musical styles, all linked by the common bonds of African-American and European-American musical parentage with a performance orientation.[4] Jazz is characterized by swing and blue notes, call and response vocals, polyrhythms and improvisation. Jazz has roots in West African cultural and musical expression, and in African-American music traditions including blues and ragtime, as well as European military band music.[5] Intellectuals around the world have hailed jazz as one of America's original art forms.[6]
As jazz spread around the world, it drew on different national, regional, and local musical cultures, which gave rise to many distinctive styles. New Orleans jazz began in the early 1910s, combining earlier brass-band marches, French quadrilles, biguine, ragtime and blues with collective polyphonic improvisation. In the 1930s, heavily arranged dance-oriented swing big bands, Kansas City jazz, a hard-swinging, bluesy, improvisational style and Gypsy jazz (a style that emphasized musette waltzes) were the prominent styles. Bebop emerged in the 1940s, shifting jazz from danceable popular music toward a more challenging musician's music which was played at faster tempos and used more chord-based improvisation. Cool jazz developed near the end of the 1940s, introducing calmer, smoother sounds and long, linear melodic lines.
The 1950s saw the emergence of free jazz, which explored playing without regular meter, beat and formal structures, and in the mid-1950s, hard bop emerged, which introduced influences from rhythm and blues, gospel, and blues, especially in the saxophone and piano playing. Modal jazz developed in the late 1950s, using the mode, or musical scale, as the basis of musical structure and improvisation. Jazz-rock fusion appeared in the late 1960s and early 1970s, combining jazz improvisation with rock music's rhythms, electric instruments, and highly amplified stage sound. In the early 1980s, a commercial form of jazz fusion called smooth jazz became successful, garnering significant radio airplay. Other styles and genres abound in the 2000s, such as Latin and Afro-Cuban jazz.....
The United States of America (USA), commonly known as the United States (U.S.) or America, is a federal republic composed of 50 states, a federal district, five major self-governing territories, and various possessions.[fn 6] At 3.8 million square miles (9.8 million km2), the United States is the world's third- or fourth-largest country by total area[fn 7] and just fractionally smaller than the entire continent of Europe's 3.9 million square miles. With a population of over 325 million people, the U.S. is the third-most populous country. The capital is Washington, D.C., and the largest city by population is New York City. Forty-eight states and the capital's federal district are contiguous in North America between Canada and Mexico. The State of Alaska is in the northwest corner of North America, bordered by Canada to the east and across the Bering Strait from Russia to the west. The State of Hawaii is an archipelago in the mid-Pacific Ocean. The U.S. territories are scattered about the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, stretching across nine official time zones. The extremely diverse geography, climate, and wildlife of the United States make it one of the world's 17 megadiverse countries.[19]

The Royal Family - Stasi UK State - Intimidate ,scare, prevent voicing opinions
UK Stasi twitter accounts set up [one of many inc bots] ,trying to intimidate & scare and point blank prevent criticism of UK Monarchy.
Kensington Palace and Clarence House are also suppressing criticism of the undemocratic UK Royal family on social media accounts , that no one has voted for ,as they live in palaces pontificating claptrap with made up rules to suit their self entitlements and self appointed made up silly titles.
UK royal reporters like Alastair Stewart appointed OBE [ parents in RAF ] by the UK royal family in Queen's birthday honors , this ITV news anchor has be quoted on record as saying this malignancy must stop on social media [ who has also previously covered royal weddings and events ] and finds criticism of monarchy boring.
Victoria Arbiter daughter of darling Dickie Arbiter a former royal spokesman , blocks criticism of the UK monarchy on social media also.
Arbiter sprouts sycophant rose tinted coverage of the UK Royal Family to US Audiences with recent programmes like Headliners: Queen Elizabeth from MSNBC showing no criticism of the monarchy.
Chris Ship another ITV Royal reporter , sorry editor who also sprouts claptrap , with bias reporting of the UK monarchy.
suppressing opinions is making the UK more and more a 1984 Police State. If you criticise the monarchy which is within your civil rights , you get put on a the Mi5 watch list by UK intelligence services.apparently, will this video now be censored ?
BBC News - state media also has a BBC Royal Charter and has not reported criticism of the royal wedding at the time of posting this video ,Nicolae Ceausescu would be proud of the BBC news. Will not be independent or fair , in news output until royal charter unbolted ,from its cooperative legislation.
A family who came from Germany ,involved in, a covered up Nazi Plot [intelligence from many countries proving it existed] to place King Edward the VIII back on the throne if Hitler had won world war 2 .The Saxe Coburg Gothas that no one voted for , now living in palaces at the taxpayers expense. representing the UK as head of state . when its own civilians can't aspire to this position. And The UK conservative party, who support the royals, with former UK PM David Cameron ,Theresa May all staunch monarchists, embarrassments to democracy in a civilised democratic society.
The Daily Mail or Mail online right wing and racist editorials, the UK PM Theresa May favorite newspaper apparently, another media outlet whose questionable comment section, some alleging is it rigged in favor of the monarchy, waxing & waning hype in favor of royals ultimately. Rebecca English Daily Mail Royal Reporter daughter of a former daily mail editor ,reports coverage particularly of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge through rose tinted glasses.
Eve Pollard Lady Lloyd, OBE a former daily mail reporter, recently went on ITV and sycophantically praised the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on having another royal child.Pollards daughter a Prince's Trust ambassador Claudia Winkleman, also one of the highest paid presenters on publicly funded BBC TV channels via the license fee. Most UK Royal reporters all hide behind this facade of rose tinted glasses ,not mentioning there is growing number of people who want the abolition of the monarchy, perpetuating feudalism unfairness and inequality in society also having strong links to masonic society with their grandmaster Prince Edward, Duke of Kent KG GCMG GCVO CD ADC.

ROYAL MARRIES MAORI BUILDER
Lady Davina Windsor, daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester and 20th in line to the British throne, married a New Zealander at Kensington Palace on Saturday.
Lady Davina, 26, met Gary Lewis, a builder and surfing enthusiast, while on vacation in Bali, Indonesia, four years ago.
The 33-year-old is the first Maori to marry into the royal family. He has an 11-year-old son from a former relationship.
They married in the chapel of Kensington Palace - where Lady Davina grew up with her family in an 11-room apartment.
Princess Diana formerly occupied another apartment in the central London palace.
Only close friends and immediate family attended the wedding ceremony.
Among the guests was New Zealand author Witi Ihimaera, whose book The Whale Rider was adapted into the successful film of the same name.
Lewis is Ihimaera's nephew.
The bride's grandmother Princess Alice, who at 102 is the oldest member of the royal family, was absent due to physical frailty, but the couple visited her after their nuptials.
Lady Davina's father gave her away and her sister, Lady Rose Windsor, 24, was among the bridesmaids.
No other royals were present, although Princess Anne's former husband Mark Phillips attended.
About 40 members of Lewis' family were also there.
His son, Ari, read a Gaelic prayer, and Nick Harvey, a friend from New Zealand, was best man.
Lady Davina, whose father is Queen Elizabeth II's cousin, does not carry out any official royal duties.
She followed a course in media studies at the University of the West of England in Bristol.
Lewis comes from Gisborne on the east coast of New Zealand's North Island and is a former sheep shearer.
His father, Larry, was a champion shearer in New Zealand in the 1980s and his mother, Viki Carr, previously worked as a maid.
Announcing the wedding in March, a Kensington Palace spokeswoman said the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester were delighted by their elder daughter's engagement.
The newlyweds are expected to settle in Britain.

Duke of Kent arrives at Bristol's Sikh Memorial Garden
SS Great Britain, A tour of Brunel's Great Ocean Liner. Bristol, UK
SS Great Britain is a museum ship and former passenger steamship, which was advanced for her time. She was the longest passenger ship in the world from 1845 to 1854. She was designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel for the Great Western Steamship Company's transatlantic service between Bristol and New York. While other ships had been built of iron or equipped with a screw propeller, Great Britain was the first to combine these features in a large ocean-going ship. She was the first iron steamer to cross the Atlantic, which she did in 1845, in the time of 14 days.
The ship was 322 ft (98 m) in length and had a 3,400-ton displacement. She was powered by two propeller engines of the direct-acting type, with twin 88 in (220 cm) bore, 6-foot (1.8 m) stroke cylinders. She was also provided with secondary sail power. The four decks provided accommodation for a crew of 120, and 360 passengers who were provided with cabins and dining and promenade saloons.
When launched in 1843, Great Britain was by far the largest vessel afloat. However, her protracted construction and high cost had left her owners in a difficult financial position, and they were forced out of business in 1846 after the ship was stranded by a navigational error. Sold for salvage and repaired, Great Britain carried thousands of immigrants to Australia until converted to sail in 1881. Three years later, she was retired to the Falkland Islands where she was used as a warehouse, quarantine ship and coal hulk until scuttled in 1937.
In 1970, following a cash donation by Sir Jack Hayward that paid for the vessel to be towed back to the UK, Great Britain was returned to the Bristol dry dock where she was built. Now listed as part of the National Historic Fleet, she is an award-winning visitor attraction and museum ship in Bristol Harbour, with between 150,000 and 200,000 visitors annually.

Richard of York, 3rd Duke of York
Richard of York, 3rd Duke of York (21 September 1411 – 30 December 1460), was a leading English magnate, a great-grandson of King Edward III through his father and a great-great-great-grandson of that king through his mother. He inherited great estates, and served in various offices of state in France at the end of the Hundred Years' War, and in England, ultimately governing the country as Lord Protector during Henry VI's madness. His conflicts with Henry's wife, Margaret of Anjou, and other members of Henry's court, as well as his competing claim on the throne, were a leading factor in the political upheaval of mid-fifteenth-century England, and a major cause of the Wars of the Roses. Richard eventually attempted to take the throne but was dissuaded, although it was agreed that he would become King on Henry's death (being Lord Protector and Prince of Wales in the meantime.) Within a few weeks of securing this agreement, he died in battle.
Although Richard never became king himself, he was the father of Edward IV and Richard III.

Building the 'Chelsea in Bloom' windows at Space NK apothecary Duke of York, Kings Road
Each year during the renowned Chelsea Flower Show, retailers are invited to take part in Chelsea in Bloom , a competition to create the most fabulous window design based around a theme. This year the theme 'The Decades' inspired a blooming 20's style window to delight the senses.
Visit the Space NK apothecary Duke of York store during Chelsea in Bloom, to see our unique design. Enter our competition in store for a chance to win fabulous Diptyque prizes, plus one lucky winner will be treated to Noel Coward's play Private Lives, pre-theatre dinner and an overnight stay at the Strand Palace Hotel.
It's Space NK's 20th anniversary this year so the obvious decade to choose to represent was the 20's. We've visualised what the shop might have looked like as an apothecary in the 1920's and used an authentic art Deco colour palette of pink's and greens. Even the flowers are very much of the moment -- carnations, lilies, roses and hydrangeas were all de rigeur with the Bright Young Things Paul Wilkins, Head of Visual Merchandising.
