Monument in pride of place as Duncan Edwards statue returns to heart of Dudley
The statue of Dudley's much loved footballing hero Duncan Edwards has returned to pride of place in the heart of the town.
It had been in storage while a major £6.7 million redevelopment of the town centre has been under way.
But now the statue of the football legend, who was born in Dudley in 1936, has been returned to the marketplace and put up in a new location near the top of New Street in place of the now demolished toilet blocks.

Duncan Edwards blue plaque
Sir Bobby Charlton was in Dudley over the weekend to unveil a special blue plaque for Dudley-born football legend Duncan Edwards. The former Manchester United and England star unveiled the plaque in front of hundreds of fans at Priory Park in Dudley on Saturday (October 1) accompanied by the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Dudley.

At the age of just 21, he'd already played 18 times for England and won two league championships. The death of Duncan Edwards in the 1958 Munich air crash cut short a life which glittered with promise. But in his home town of Dudley he's never been forgotten and in 1999 his mother unveiled a statue of one the finest footballers who ever lived.

He was one of the eight players who tragically died from injuries sustained in the Munich air disaster on Thursday 6 February 1958. Aged just 21, Duncan died 15 days later on Friday 21 February in the Reichts der Isar Hospital in Munich.

Big News - Sir Bobby unveils Duncan Edwards Plaque
4th September 2016.
Last Saturday Sir Bobby Charlton unveiled a blue plaque in honour of his former Manchester United team-mate Duncan Edwards. The plaque was placed in Dudley Prior Park, in Edwards home territory, on the day the footballer would have turned 80 years old. Big Centre TV Reports.

Duncan Edwards Day will be celebrated on 1st October 2019 - on what would have been the Man Utd and England legend's 83rd birthday. To mark the occasion a special announcement is being made in his hometown of Dudley and will publish a special tribute by filmmaker John Gubba who will be there shooting scenes for documentary series 'The Religion'.
Edwards was the star player in the United team when a youngster called Charlton broke into the team. Sir Bobby has always said Duncan is the greatest player he's ever seen. In this clip filmed and edited by Gubba, we see the iconic Edwards statue in Dudley and memorabilia owned by the Duncan Edwards Foundation.
