Hi there! I'm Anne-Li – Danish girl, globetrotter, travel vlogger, blogger and digital nomad traveling the world with my partner in crime and long-term boyfriend Mathias. Spending a month in Budapest every summer taught us that traveling does not have to be expensive and that slow travel is the way to go – for us. We have been traveling full-time since September 2016, and we usually base ourselves in one place for at least a month or two. This way of traveling is not only budget friendly – it also means that we can take our time and really explore and enjoy the place we're in. We eat local food, shop at local markets, meet local people and enjoy experiencing different cultures – all the while seeking out the best wifi and exploring everything there is to explore. Everyday is another adventure, and we’d love for you to be part of it!

Galle Old Town ???????? Sri Lanka Best Places Travel & Discover
Galle was known as Gimhathiththa before the arrival of the Portuguese in the 16th century, when it was the main port on the island. Galle reached the height of its development in the 18th century, during the Dutch colonial period. Galle is the best example of a fortified city built by the Portuguese in South and Southeast Asia, showing the interaction between Portuguese architectural styles and native traditions. The city was extensively fortified by the Dutch during the 17th century from 1649 onwards. The Galle fort is a world heritage site and is the largest remaining fortress in Asia built by European occupiers.

Best City in SRI LANKA! - Galle, Sri Lanka
We spent the day visiting Galle Fort which quickly became our favorite city in Sri Lanka thus far! We were so impressed by the vibrancy that we decided to take you guys on a Galle city tour! See the Galle Lighthouse, best places to eat, and the famous fort along the waters edge.
One of the best places to visit in Sri Lanka is Galle, a colonial fort city and the largest city in Southern Sri Lanka. We started the day flying the drone on Galle beach which looked to be a fantastic getaway spot for tourists and locals alike. We met a really nice Sri Lankan family and it was nice to get some warm Sri Lankan hospitality!
We then headed to the famous Galle lighthouse, which we’re sure you’ve seen all over your instagram feed. The Galle lighthouse is the southern most tip of Galle city and serves as a big tourist attraction right on the water.
After the lighthouse, we headed over to the Galle clock tower to see the actual fort which was first constructed by the Portuguese. The fort was massive and we had a great time exploring that part of history from one of the oldest cities in Sri Lanka.
By this time, we’ve worked up quite an appetite so into the city we went! It’s the colonial charm that makes Galle so special and if you want to explore Sri Lanka in a more modern way, Galle is the city for you. With streets upon street of cute local shops and restaurants, Galle city has everything you need for a holiday or day long visit.
If you have any questions about the best places to go to discover Sri Lanka, things to do in Galle including the fort city or beach, leave a comment down below and we will answer as soon as possible! If you’re new to the channel, don’t forget to subscribe and become part of the DBV Fam! We have a lot more Sri Lanka travel vlogs to come.

SRI LANKA, EXPLORING the iconic fruit and vegetable MARKET in GALLE ????????
SUBSCRIBE: - Let's go for a walk and visit the very graphic and very exotic fruit and vegetable market of the beautiful city of Galle in the spectacular country of Sri Lanka in the Indian Ocean...
Galle is a city on the southwest coast of Sri Lanka. It’s known for Galle Fort, the fortified old city founded by Portuguese colonists in the 16th century. Stone sea walls, expanded by the Dutch, encircle car-free streets with architecture reflecting Portuguese, Dutch and British rule. Notable buildings include the 18th-century Dutch Reformed Church. Galle Lighthouse stands on the fort’s southeast tip.
Sri Lanka, officially the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, is an island country in South Asia, located in the Indian Ocean to the southwest of the Bay of Bengal and to the southeast of the Arabian Sea.

Dutch Reformed Church of Galle in Sri Lanka
n 1750, a church was built on the highest point in the City of Galle, which stands more than twelve meters above sea level. A Dutch army officer donated money to build this church as a thanksgiving for the birth of his daughter for which he had waited for many years. The church underwent various changes during the British Period. A stained glass window was built into the west façade of the church around 1830 and a communion rail was built in the south wing. At the beginning of the 20th century, a small organ was placed in the south wing. Around 1890, a canopy was built above the stained glass window to protect it from leaking.
In 2001, a restoration plan for the Dutch Reformed Church was drawn up. The Dutch Government granted subsidy for the restoration of this church. The Sri Lankan authorities, however, needed Dutch expertise for various aspects of the restoration plan. For this, the Dutch Department for Conservation was approached and the Dutch conservation specialist Harry Boerema was sent to work together with the Sri Lankan architects on their plans. This was the beginning of many years of working closely together on the restoration of the Dutch Reformed Church, the Dutch Warehouse, and the Ramparts. During the restoration, a training programme was set up for the restoration of the stained glass window. A Dutch firm was asked to supply the necessary materials and equipment. A training programme was organized and a team of three specialists took on the restoration and the training program. Eight Sri Lankan conservation specialists worked closely together with the Dutch firm to restore the window. Each one of them was asked to design a three dimensional leaded glass subject and produce it under the guidance of the Dutch conservator.

Galle, Sri Lanka Travel Guide // Lighthouse, Galle Fort and Gelato
Galle is a city in the far south of Sri Lanka, famous for its old town and its UNESCO World Heritage Status. We travelled to Galle as part of the #TBCasia Cinnamon Hotels Blogger Conference and awards.
I loved the old Dutch vibes, as it felt more like an old European town than a city in Asia. There are beautiful boutiques, galleries, restaurants, gelato shops and lots of interesting places to visit within Galle Old Fort.
GALLE FORT (sights, shopping and food) | Sri Lanka Travel
Galle Fort is the main attraction for tourists visiting Galle so we dedicated an entire day to exploring it. The old Dutch Fort is magical, the ramparts are largely intact and the town within the fortifications is beautiful, straight out of Southern Europe! We visited the lighthouse, the maritime museum, a church, and also spent some time walking the ramparts.
We did a spot of shopping in between visiting the many sights in Galle and also managed to find some cheap eats amongst the expensive European-style cafes.
If you enjoyed – please subscribe!
FYI: This was filmed before the horrific events of Easter Sunday. Our thoughts are with everyone in Sri Lanka.

GALLE FORT Solo Travel Vlog | Tour + Top Restaurants
It's easy to see why Galle Fort is the most popular spot for closing out an epic journey around Sri Lanka, for both solo travellers and groups. It's gorgeous, there is tons to see and do (and eat!), and it's as close to a city as most of us want to be after recharging our batteries around the chilled countryside. The Fort, which was founded in the 16th century by the Portuguese, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site ... so whether you're staying inside the Fort or just outside of it like me, a tuk tuk tour of the Fort is an absolute MUST!!! My driver was Ananda, and he stuck with me all three days I was in Galle via pre-arranged meet-ups (I didn't hire him the whole 3 days).

A Day in Galle Sri Lanka (HONEST Guide)
Although the town is charming and quaint, it's also.....overpriced! Our honest suggestion: make Galle (fort area) a day trip- don't stay there.
The area is easily accessible from nearby beach-towns and you can experience it all in 1 day.
Where we stayed: (Birdhouse Unawatuna)
