Green Springs Park covers 36 acres of pristine nature and has one of Florida’s few green sulfur springs.
Visitors can enjoy paved and natural trails, scenic overlooks, a playground and picnic pavilions.
History
Green Springs has been an important landmark throughout the history of Volusia County from the time of early Native American settlements to the steamboat era when Enterprise was the final destination on the St. Johns River. Native Americans, including the Mayaca and Seminoles, considered the land sacred because they thought the sulfur water in the springs was healing.
In 1841, Cornelius Taylor built a hotel on top of a once-massive shell mound at the end of the spring run where it enters Lake Monroe. The spring was the main attraction of Taylor’s “hotel for invalids” on the lakefront – one of Florida’s first health spas. The hotel attracted tourists in the mid-1800s who wanted to enjoy the St. Johns River and recuperate from various illnesses.
By 1883, Green Springs was part of the large estate of wine importer and steamboat baron Frederick deBary, who used it to entertain guests from DeBary Hall. Well into the 20th century, the site still attracted tourists who were struck by what one observer called the spring’s “delicate green waters.”
Swimming and fishing
Swimming and fishing are not permitted.
Nature trails
Green Springs Park offers nature trails and scenic overlooks. This park is also a trailhead to both the Spring-to-Spring Trail and the East Central Regional Rail Trail. The East Central Regional Rail Trail begins at Green Springs and travels 5.7 miles to State Road 415 in Osteen. More segments of this trail are in the works. 140526 COMPLETED Springs-To-Springs Connector
There are two bicycle trails that run along northern Lake Monroe in Debary and Enterprise Florida. The Gemini Springs Trail and the Green Springs Trail are separate trails that now connect and travel under Interstate-4, making one longer, more challenging trail (over 20 miles round trip).
This quick video shows you the Spring to Spring Connector that is now complete (shot on May 26, 2014). Try it! It is an interesting trail tat takes you from Lake Monroe Boat Ramp area through a beautifully wooded area, past the entrance to Gemini Springs, onto under I-4 and into Enterprise FL, then past Green Springs, onto County Road 415. This is where they are building an overpass to go over CR415, and further the bicycle trail.

The Alaska Railroad: Railfanning The Last Frontier
Where in the world can you ride along a jointed rail mainline at speeds of 40mph, without passing a single control point or signal tower for over 100 miles, on a nationally recognized premier passenger trains pulled by none other than SD70MACs and GP40-2s, soaring over cascading rivers, dwarfed by mountainous vistas effortlessly stretching into the sky, and past some of the most beautiful, untouched and breathtaking pieces of planet earth? The Alaska Railroad of course! This regional railroad operates from just east of Fairbanks, Alaska all the way down to Seward on 470 miles on mainline track, through some of the most intense terrain railroaders could ever dream of coming across.
The railroad is unattached to the rest of the railroading world, relying on barges from Seattle and Vancouver as the primary connection t0 the continental US. The Alaska Railroad is state owned, dating back to 1914. Being one of the last all EMD railroads, they roster 28 SD70MAC’s, being 4001-4016, and 4317-4328, the 4300 series being equipped with head end power, and 4317 being tagged as an Operation Lifesaver locomotive. The ARR has two ex-F40PH’s, now NPCU’s for some of the local passenger trains, and then finally the railroad has GP38’s, GP38u’s, and GP40-2’s, seven of which are also equipped with head end power for the passenger service. Most of the railroad’s passenger rolling stock is ex-UP and ex-C&NW, which felt kind of surreal riding in a dome car that was once part of a crack passenger train on the C&NW to Chicago.
Hauling intermodal, gravel, export coal, jet fuel, and any other manifest freight, along with first class passenger service, and DPU’s if you’re lucky, this railroad really has it all. We were able to experience this railroad phenomena first hand over a 9 day period of time from late June to early August. Arriving in Anchorage, Alaska we didn’t have to catch our train until the next morning, so we hung around the downtown, watching the Blue Angels, visiting the huge farmers market, and of course, watching the trains. It never really got dark in Alaska, some of the videos were filmed close to 10 at night, and its perfectly light out. The next morning, we took the Coastal Classic down to Seward, where we would stay for the next week, finding all sorts of cool little spots to watch the trains travers the Alaskan wilderness. But alas, the railroad sent us the same consist every single day, so we relied on locational variations to keep us on our toes, even making our way to Portage Pass to film the Glacier Discovery towards the end of our trip. We were expecting the famed coal trains to come to Seward, but unfortunately the coal mine apparently lost a huge part of their contract with Seoul, the railroads main customer of coal. So not many coal trains to Seward. Although I did get news of one arriving the day after we left Alaska…funny how that works…
I’ve always wanted to film the Alaska Railroad, and now that I’ve done so, I can’t wait to go back for more. Thanks for watching and don’t forget to subscribe!

Startups pitch on stage for six minutes, followed by an intense question and answer session with top investors, entrepreneurs, and technologists, including prominent Silicon Valley figures like Marissa Mayer, Ron Conway, Fred Wilson and Roelof Botha, among many others – just like an investment pitch meeting.
Companies that launched at Tech Crunch include Vurb, Trello, Mint, Dropbox, Yammer, Tripit, Redbeacon, Qwiki, Getaround, and Soluto. The statistics on the 763 startups that have participated since the first competition, TC40 in 2007, tell a strong story: in aggregate, as of February 2019, they have raised $8.8 billion, while 109 have been acquired or have gone public. TechCrunch makes the complete details of past Battlefields and participants available on the Battlefield leaderboard.
It’s important to note that TechCrunch takes no fees or equity from the startups. Applying and participating in the Battlefield is 100% free.
