Places to see in ( Eastbourne - UK )
Eastbourne is a large town, seaside resort and borough in the non-metropolitan county of East Sussex on the south coast of England, 19 miles east of Brighton. Eastbourne is immediately to the east of Beachy Head, the highest chalk sea cliff in Great Britain.
With a seafront consisting largely of Victorian hotels, a pier and a Napoleonic era fort and military museum, Eastbourne was developed at the direction of the Duke of Devonshire from 1859 from four separate hamlets. It has a growing population, a broad economic base and is home to companies in a wide range of industries.
Though Eastbourne is a relatively new town, there is evidence of human occupation in the area from the Stone Age. The town grew as a fashionable tourist resort largely thanks to prominent landowner, William Cavendish, later to become the Duke of Devonshire. Cavendish appointed architect Henry Currey to design a street plan for the town, but not before sending him to Europe to draw inspiration. The resulting mix of architecture is typically Victorian and remains a key feature of Eastbourne.
As a seaside resort, Eastbourne derives a large and increasing income from tourism, with revenue from traditional seaside attractions augmented by conferences, public events and cultural sightseeing. The other main industries in Eastbourne include trade and retail, healthcare, education, construction, manufacturing, professional scientific and the technical sector.

Eastbourne's Grade II* listed Claremont Hotel was evacuated after the blaze started at about 08:50 GMT on Friday the 23rd November 2019. The 72-bed hotel forms part of Eastbourne's Grand Parade on the town's seafront, close to the pier which was devastated by a fire in 2014.All those in the Claremont, which was evacuated along with neighbouring hotels, were accounted for.
The building, comprising the Burlington Hotel and the Claremont Hotel, was constructed between 1851 and 1855 and given a Grade II* listing in 1949. Water was taken from the sea to help tackle the blaze, which was brought under control within five hours. Efforts to isolate the gas supply to the Claremont Hotel are continuing. firefighters are allowing the gas to burn off in a controlled manner which is being closely monitored.

Devonshire Park Eastbourne - Drone cam fly over
Devonshire Park in Eastbourne hosts some absolute gems of architecture and culture (and some that are not). It is currently undergoing a £49 million regeneration, by which the Grade 2 listed Devonshire Park Theatre, Winter Garden and Congress Theatre are being rejunevanted and restored to former glory and being joined by a brand new Welcome Building - a wedge shaped structure that will sit between the Winter Garden and The Congress proving first class conference facilities and disabled access across the Quarter.
Also featured is the amazing gem Park Cottage - the wonderfully quirky little building with the Union flag on top that was saved from demolition in 1983 and opened as The Eastbourne Heritage Centre in 1985. It still runs to this day with the dedication of the Eastbourne Society and the caring volunteers who staff it.
