After yesterday, checking out the Moonshine Museum and St James Theatre in Gore, we have found even more things to do in Gore in the Southland region of New Zealand! Join us for the Eastern Southland Gallery and Dolamore Park in Gore!
This morning, we pop into the Eastern Southland Gallery, an art gallery in Gore and a free thing to do in Gore! The Eastern Southland Art Gallery is set in a historic library and really has a huge offering of art from all over the world. This New Zealand art gallery is pretty huge. We did not expect this in such a quiet corner of New Zealand!
After the art gallery, we head back to Dolamore Park which is where we have been camping for the last couple of days while in Gore. Dolamore Park has cheap powered sites for campervans, as well as a wealth of hikes in Gore and even mountain biking trails in Gore. We go check out one of the Dolamore Park walks that goes through the forest foothills of the Hokonui Hills. Dolarmore Park is well worth checking out for some walks in Gore.

Hokonui Gold Gore Audio Montage - September 2008
Radio the way it used to be, the following is a recent recording of a Gore based radio that sounds the way New Zealand radio stations used to sound. A station that isn't networked from Auckland at any part of the day a station that still stops the music for an hour to do a talk show (about farming) and also a sports talk show during weekends. This is how New Zealand radio stations were before the late 90's/early 2000's when most of our local stations either closed down or were integrated into an Auckland based product eg Classic Hits or More FM. Hokonui Gold is one of few surviving stations in New Zealand as local stations become a thing of the past.
The station was originally owned by Radio New Zealand and branded as 4ZG Radio Hokonui, the station was purchased by 2 Gore locals in 1994, 2 years before RNZ sold their entire commerical operation. Today the station remains locally owned but the operation is leased to The Radio Network (the sucessor to Radio New Zealand's commercial operation).

SUCCESSFULLY HOMELESS VLOG SERIES
Over the last year, I have been digitizing my work and life here in New Zealand, where the cost of living has become pretty out of whack with the typical pay rates being earned here. I cashed it all in for a wild adventure that will take me to the bottom of the world and deep into South East Asia.
This journey isn't just a short Holiday either. I am moving my entire life and family so this could be a pretty unique adventure for us all - including you if you want to tune in and watch it all unfold!
As I will be becoming a Digital Nomad, working online but with no fixed abode and that the whole goal of this will be to better our lives, it seemed fitting to call the story about this journey Successfully Homeless
This is a chance for you who dream of giving up the 9-5 grind in favor of working remotely to learn how we did it and I would love to have you join us in this adventure into the unknown.

June 05, 2015 marks 100 years since Gore's iconic Sgt Dan character was born. An early morning celebration including free birthday cake, outside the former Creamoata Mill (now Sgt Dan Stockfoods), marked the occasion. The video features Gore Main School, former Creamoata storeman John Christie, 98-year-old Norman Dickie, Eastern Southland Gallery curator Jim Geddes and former Gore celebrity Mike Puru.

The South Island (Māori: Te Waipounamu) is the larger of the two major islands of New Zealand in surface area; the other being the smaller but more populous North Island. It is bordered to the north by Cook Strait, to the west by the Tasman Sea, and to the south and east by the Pacific Ocean. The South Island covers 150,437 square kilometres (58,084 sq mi), making it the world's 12th-largest island. It has a temperate climate.
It has a 32 percent larger landmass than the North Island so is sometimes referred to as the mainland of New Zealand, especially by South Island residents, but only 23 percent of New Zealand's 4.9 million inhabitants live there. In the early stages of European (Pākehā) settlement of the country, the South Island had the majority of the European population and wealth due to the 1860s gold rushes. The North Island population overtook the South in the early 20th century, with 56 percent of the population living in the North in 1911, and the drift north of people and businesses continued throughout the century.
