Cycling In Fuerteventura - My first bike ride for 4 years
I decided it was about time I got my mountain bike out and did some cycling again. I say again as I had one bike ride 4 years ago and another 5 years ago and prior to that it was around 20 years!
Cycling in Fuerteventura is very popular with many teams and clubs coming over during the winter for training weeks. Mountain biking in Fuerteventura is also extremely popular which isn't surprising given the hundreds of kilometres of tracks there are on the island. Every year is a big 150km mountain bike race here in Fuerteventura. It will be a while before I can enter that.
I shall take it easy - mountain biking for old farts should be taken slowly. I think perhaps I need an e-mtb - electric mountain bike!
I actually did 10 km which wasn't exactly far but ok for a first go.

Speed Boat to Lobos from Corralejo Fuerteventura 2018 HD
Fuerteventura might seem like enough of an island paradise, but it isn’t the only one that you’ll want to be conquering in this part of the Canaries: just 2 kilometers off shore sits a tiny islet that is a worthy destination unto itself. Called Lobos Island, the volcanic land mass spans 1.8 square miles and gets its name from the large population of monk seals (also called sea wolves) that used to live here.Although the island’s formation dates back to thousands of years ago, 1405 marks the first recorded presence of man, when Jean de Béthencourt used it as a resupply station during his conquest of Fuerteventura. Since those times, it has remained virtually uninhabited, with a lighthouse keeper having lived there until 1968, after which the illuminated beacon became automated.
Today, and since 1982, Lobos Island has been classified as a nature reserve, noted for its abundance of vegetation species (over 130 different kinds), and its bird population, which swells during migratory season. Visitors can witness the beauty of the island easily, too, by simply taking a short ferry ride from Corralejo. Once there, you can explore the landscape via marked paths, checking out the lighthouse, Playa de la Concha Beach and caldera, where you’ll find the highest point on the island, which reaches 417 feet tall.

Fuerteventura: Paradise for Triathletes
The unique environmental conditions of Fuerteventura -sun, endless roads and its own nature- make it a paradise to make triathlon training. A lot of athletes choose this island to run, ride a bike and swim. Do you want to know why?

Mollydoo Cycling Destinations - Fuerteventura
This is a great introduction to the Canary Islands as a cycling destination as compared to Tenerife its relatively easier as its highest point is Mount Jandia which stands at a humble 807 metres. However as the second most populated island in the Canary Islands it offers some long stretches of traffic free roads and rides are available in excess of 100K, so if you are looking for smooth tarmac, rolling hills but with some shorter climbs, then this may be for you.
