Capital of Jordan
Amman, the capital of Jordan, is a modern city with numerous ancient ruins. Atop Jabal al-Qala’a hill, the historic Citadel includes the pillars of the Roman Temple of Hercules and the 8th-century Umayyad Palace complex, known for its grand dome.
Built into a different downtown hillside, the Roman Theater is a 6,000-capacity, 2nd-century stone amphitheater offering occasional events.

A Travel Guide to Jordan
A Travel Guide to Jordan
Jordan is an extraordinary country. Although small in size and young in terms of nation state, it is blessed with some of the regions most revered historical treasures, some of its most spectacular scenery and some of its kindest and most hospitable people. It has a delicious cuisine, a good tourist infrastructure – with some great accommodation and knowledgeable guides – and under the much respected royal family, a stable government. Throughout its short history, Jordan has bucked the trends of its neighbours; by welcoming the foreign traveller with open arms, and gallons of sweet mint tea, in many ways it continues to do so.
Amman is a lively, liberal city, modern in character, yet with one foot rooted firmly in the past. With a history dating back to Neolithic times, its journey travels through the Greeks and Romans – when it was known as Philadelphia, the City of Brotherly Love’ – before being abandoned for almost a thousand years only to rise again in 1921 as the country’s modern capital. Today it carries an air of dynamic self-assurance, and is an easy place to hang out for a day or two. Things not to be missed are the downtown area, the fruit and vegetable market, the Roman theatre, and the citadel with the capital’s most famous monument, the Temple of Hercules.
From Amman the first thing you might like to do is take a day trip to visit the country’s most famous Roman town, Jaresh. Although Palaeolithic and Neolithic settlements can be found nearby, the town came to prominence during in the 1st century AD. Sites to check out here are the Temple of Zeus, the South Theatre and its impressive, and renovated, Hippodrome – which has seen a revival of the Roman sport of chariot racing.
Travelling south you’ll pass Mount Nebo, the site from which Moses showed his people the Promised Land and take a look around Madaba, where, among other things, on the floor of St George’s church you can see the first map of the Holy Land in the form of a wonderful mural.
But Jordan isn’t just about sites of antiquity, it also has some stunning natural wonders to experience. Just to the east of Madaba you can go for a float in the Dead Sea – and, if you so desire, cover yourself in the rejuvenating mud, or treat yourself to a spa or swim at one of the regions smart 5 star hotels – before enjoying remote, offbeat locations like the tiny village of Dana, which has recently been reinvented as an eco-village for travellers looking to explore the nearby reserve.
While most people enter Petra from the town of Wadi Musa, through the famous Siq, or narrow gorge, emerging at the Treasury, there is another route in. Taking the rarely used back entrance not only offers a spectacular walk, through the regions beautifully rugged terrain, it also means you avoid the crowds and start your tour of the amazing Pink City at the impressive Monastery, and thus save the Treasury till last.
And what a site Petra is – truly one of the wonders of the world. Covering some 250 square kilometres, the former capital of the Nabateans simply astounds. The beautiful pink rock, carved into magnificent facades showcasing the noble family’s temples and tombs, divided by mighty canyons and gorges, really does leave you speechless. At one time the city was home to some 30,000 inhabitants and the scale of the place is mind-blowing.
And finally you come to the most impressive of all the Petra sites, the famous Treasury, which simply has to be one of the most magnificent monuments ever created.
This is simply one of the most majestic desert landscapes you are ever likely to witness, a place where orange sands drift against towering red cliffs and immense vistas ride out under vast desert skies. This is a great place to stay for the night, either sleeping wild under the stars or in one of the impressive camps, the best of which is almost certainly Discover Circle, Bedu Camp.
And as dramatic as it is, Wadi Rum has been used as a location in a numerous famous movies.
And finally right in the south is the Red Sea town of Aqaba, which as well as being an important port and modern beach resort for locals, also has its place in history.
With plenty of good walks to be had, horse riding holidays to experience, even great diving in the Red Sea, Jordan also has its fair share of activities to enjoy. At the Feynan Eco Resort it has an award winning ethical hotel, at Karak and Shobak it has Crusader castles and in the Azraq Wetlands it offers some amazing birdwatching.

48 Hours in Jordan 2019: Petra, the Dead Sea, and Falafel!
48 Hours in Jordan: Petra, the Dead Sea, and Falafel
A trip to Jordan is on every traveler’s bucket list - as it should be!
We got lucky enough to visit a little bit of the country during a weekend recently - we literally spent 48 hours in Jordan - but we have so much more to see in Jordan and can't wait to go back to see more of it.
From the beautiful wonder of the world Petra to Amman’s most famous falafel joint, through Wadis and the Dead Sea, here’s our full guide to 48 Hours in Jordan.
48 Hours in Jordan | Day 1: Petra and Amman
As you guys know, we both work full time, so we had to adapt this itinerary to fit in exactly 48 hours - from Thursday evening after work to Sunday morning back to work.
We left the office and headed straight to DXB Airport, where we boarded the Royal Jordanian flight at 9.30 direction Amman.
Arrived in Jordan at 11.40pm, we picked up SIM Cards as we planned to drive and we needed directions at all times (and to post Insta Stories, let’s be honest).
Grab a SIM card at the Zain stand by the Starbucks when you land, it’s cheap, easy and reliable 4G!
Once done, we swang by Sixt to pick up our rental car and got going - no time to waste!
If you’re confident in your driving skills, we really recommend you to do this. The roads are well lit and safe, and the drive is just short of 3 hours, so make sure to drink plenty of coffee and prepare your best road trip hits!
Once we arrived in Petra, we had a couple hours to get a snooze (in the car, but there’s also a Movenpick right by the entrance of Petra if you feel like taking a longer sleep!).
The best tip we can give you, however, is to be right there at 6am at the opening of Petra. Be the first there, and avoid the crowd of tourists coming later in the day. This is really the best piece of advice we’ve received, and we reeeeally recommend you do the same!
Once in Petra, we started the short 2km walk to the Treasury.
The Treasury is the iconic facade you imagine when thinking about Petra. That feeling when you see it appear at a corner is incredible - especially if the sun is just rising!
We hung around the Treasury for a little bit, but shortly began our hike towards the Monastery, which is the highest point in Petra.
Walking through Petra made us realise how little knowledge we had about it - who built Petra? When was it build? What IS IT?
After a quick Google search (oops), we continued on our way to the Monastery, stopping here and there to drink tea with our new best friend Rosa, and buy a couple things on the rise of the road.
Once we arrived to the top, what a sight this was! The Monastery was absolutely empty, so again, make sure to be the first up there - really worth walking a little bit faster (though please don’t use the donkeys!!!).
Tip: Get to Petra at the opening at 6am!
After drinking a coffee and sharing a few moments in the calm with the cutest stray dog, we decided to explore around and finally, head back down.

Amman, Jordan: Tour From My Hotel to Ancient Roman Ruins
Tour of Jerash - Best Preserved Roman City in the World
Filmed with Zhiyutn Tech Evolution Gimbal
I took a 3 hour guided tour of Jerash which is located just north of Amman. It takes about 25 minutes by car to get there. I did not take a group tour but those options are available.
The city itself is much larger than you first imagine. The history is rich between the transfer of power from for example Greek to Roman, though the history extends before those influences.
The entrance fee was worth it and the guided tour cost me about 50 JD paid directly to the guide upon the end of the tour.
The guide was great! His name is Nader, educated in Canada and well spoken, knowledgeable and a pleasant person to be around. His phone number 00962797795656. Please check the time in Jordan before calling him.
Prepare to do a lot of walking, you can easily do 4-5 miles in the entire complex or just visit the hippodrome, the Roman center and the temple. It's up to you.
The weather in December was about 70F all day in the sun. Bring water and sunblock, sunglasses and hat.
You can also visit the ruins of a Templar castle 15 minutes away if you like that is situated on a big hill. More on that in a future video.

Travel Vlog Amman & Petra Jordan

Jordan My Love - that's the name of the series about Jordan [ الأردن ], the country that I have fallen in love with. Jordan is a small country in the Middle East, with a population of about 10 million.
This video is about the capital of Jordan: Amman [ عمان ]. Amman is a big and very busy city. In the video you will see the downtown Amman [ وسط البلد عمان ], the Citadel Amman [ جبل القلعة ], a local Jordanian man playing the oud [ عود ], Yaren got himself a typical Jordanian kufiya [ كوفيه ], the local people in Amman were so nice to us that they always helped him to tie the kufiya in the right way. In the evening we also went to the Habiba sweet shop to get to taste the most typical sweet of Jordan, called Kanafeh [ كنافة ].
Jordan is one of the most beautiful and interesting places to visit, the Jordanians are always very friendly and helpful and all the food is extremely delicious.
This is the first part of my Jordanian videos.
