Ecuador Adventure Sports
As one of the most ecologically diverse countries in the world, Ecuador is a playground for adventure traveling. Nowhere else in the world can you climb a glacier-peaked mountain one day, hike through a cloud forest the next and end up at any number of white water rivers in the Amazon Basin. In addition there are the beautiful pristine coasts on the Pacific Ocean and the incredible Galapagos Islands. Quito is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Ecuador’s capital. It’s considered the cultural capital of South America and the second most important city of the old Inca Empire.
Adventure Travel Ecuador - Quito - Being Tourists (Tim and Kelsey get lost Ep 062)

Escaping the Canadian winter in QUITO, ECUADOR
Come along for the ride as we travel from Ottawa, Canada to Quito, Ecuador and then spend the day touring around an amazingly vibrant city. We visit the Middle of the Earth, Basílica del Voto Nacional, and do a walking tour of Quito's Historic District.
Myself and an INCREDIBLE team of Carleton students spent a week in Ecuador, participating in Community Service Learning through Me to We. Our week included tourism, experiential learning, and construction work. We laughed, we burned, we ate, we played, we dug and built. Most importantly, we made meaningful connections with each other and the community we visited.

Montañita Ecuador, sun, surf, sand, and parties on the beach
Playa Montañita is Ecuador's famous (or infamous depending on your opinion) party spot. It's also Ecuador's most popular beach for surfing. We spent 6 days exploring the beach, the nightlife, and the food, living off mostly ceviche, boxed wine, and coffee. Beautiful women were dancing the night away, fearless iguanas were basking in the sun. The parties raged on till 4 in the morning. In fact, one group of coked up tourists partied all night in front of our hotel taking bumps of cocaine out in public on the malecon (not something I would recommend).
Kudanlini Hostel/hotel
Montañita is a great place to learn how to surf, and at the north end of the beach has an excellent surf break for more experienced surfers. This has led to Montañita also becoming the party capital of Ecuador. Sex, drugs, crazy full moon parties, it's like a slice of Thailand in South America.

Day9 (Quito) - PLAZA FOCH Ground Zero LIVE Mariscal for 10 Day Ecuador & Amazon Adventure (May)
Plaza Foch = Ground Zero in Mariscal !
Warning: Remember that at night Quito can be quite dangerous, especially near the bars and clubs. Take a cab, even if it's only for a few blocks (it costs UP TO $4 bucks the most!).
From elegant opera performances to dirt-cheap all-you-can-drink bars, Quito offers a range of nocturnal activities for visitors and locals alike.
The MARISCAL sector = the hub for partying and dining out; it has restaurants and here today, gone tomorrow pubs and clubs pumping out popular salsa and infectious reggaetón beats until daybreak.
The heart and soul of Quito's nightlife, the Mariscal district has been dubbed GRINDGOLANDIA by those who flock to the area to drink and dance the night away with the city's tourists and resident foreigners.
Plaza FOCH (FOCH, YEAH! also known as Plaza Quinde) -- has been transformed from a seedy, run-down intersection to the area's star attraction.
Its selection of bars and international restaurants targets visitors in search of more upscale nightspots.
In addition to hitting the bars, clubs, and restaurants right on the plaza, you can use the plaza as a great starting place for a bar or club crawl through the rest of the Mariscal district.
*** LONG LINE seen here is for the... ATM!
ALWAYS, the ATMs in Quito seem to have lots of people staying in line!...
The Sauce on Every Table in Ecuador | Where to Eat in Quito
Aji sauce is available at almost every restaurant in Ecuador. It's their table sauce of choice, but not every sauce is created equally. From every restaurant to every street food stall, aji sauce is usually house made and it's flavors change based on where in Ecuador you are, what the restaurant specializes in, and more.
Aji is the word used in Ecuador for chili pepper. It's actually a species of pepper - one that's native to South America. The basic aji sauce contains chili peppers, lime, cilantro, and onion. Many cooks will include fruit in their aji sauce. Sometimes bananas, pineapple, mango, etc. In the Sierra regions, around Quito, they often include a fruit that's pretty unique. It's called a tomate de árbol, or tree tomato. It's also referred to sometimes as a tomarillo. It's sort of a sweet tomato. I find the taste difficult to describe, but it adds a nice tanginess to aji sauce. You can expect tree tomatoes to be included in the aji you get with empanadas, hornado, and many other dishes.
If you come to Ecuador and you find the aji sauce to not be to your liking, be sure to keep trying it with every meal. The sauce will sometimes be very spicy, and sometimes not spicy at all.

Ecuador - Quito - typical Ecuadorian food for Bravehearts at Las Tripas
Fog from the grills and the delightful smell of barbecued meat will welcome you while you enter this little village of stands full of bizarre and tasteful treats.
Just take a look at the video: do my fellow Swiss friends enjoy the grilled cow stomach?
At the corner of Lerida and Avenida Ladron de Guevara there is a place for best traditional cuisine called las Comidas or las Tripas and it is a real local spot. Any Taxi driver knows that place.
Some people will only see things like boiled stomach or cow skin or fried blood balls, others will be delighted about the empanadas or the fried fish or the sweet milky corn drink Morocho.
No matter what your preferences are you will find something interesting behind the curtain of nice smelling steam that fills the night sky.
From four pm to late they set up their stands every evening again to showcase what the Ecuadorian cuisine has to offer. From my perspective I loved that place because locals buy and eat here. It is not the Ritz, so only expect a plastic fork, it is the simple life here. It just is what it is: traditional food, a big part of any culture.
You can be almost sure to be the only foreigner and they will thank your visit with big smiles. In case you do not speak Spanish I recommend you to ask an English speaking local to take you there. In any case, do not be scared, nor of the people neither of their food.
A recommendation: ask for Llapingachos (Japingachos) a dish with mashed potato, cheese, meat and sausage and salad and for desert the famous Morocho all for about $3,50.
Visiting the Middle of the World | Latitude 00°00'00” | Quito Ecuador
When you visit Quito, #Ecuador, we recommend you visit the #MiddleofTheWorld (aka Ciudad Mitad del Mundo). Here, you’ll get to see if you can actually find Latitude 00°00'00”.
This can be quite a fun experience. The science experiments that you do on either side of the equatorial line are fun. Especially seeing the #CoriolisEffect swirling in action.
Besides visiting, the “Official” monument, we recommend that you also visit the Intiñan Solar Museum. There you’ll get to go around the exhibits with a guide (ours spoke English) who will tell you all about the equator and Ecuador’s history. Very informative and a fun thing to do while in Quito.

Nono, Ecuador - a Day Trip from Quito
One hour drive outside of Quito Ecuador is a little mountain village that time forgot. Nono Ecuador truly is like traveling back in time. Horses, cows, and llamas live in the center of town, dogs roam free, and the air is fresh and clean. The cost of living here is very low. My breakfast with a snack for later cost $1.60. This is the good live, if you can handle the high altitude, cold climate, and intense equatorial sun. I never did find a good spot for wild trout fishing, though there is a stocked pond and I'm sure if I keep looking I'll find a good mountain stream to fish.
