The Douglas Fir Trail can be accessed from Edworthy Park in Calgary, Alberta.
Along the south shoreline on steep banks above the Bow River rests a stand of magnificent Douglas Fir Trees. Part of this forest is home to the 2.5 KM (1½ mile) Douglas Fir Trail which travels through dense forest between parking at Edworthy Park and Cedar Crescent SW in Calgary, Alberta.
Easy access to the Douglas Fir Trail is available from parking areas for Edworthy Park. North side parking is larger and requires crossing the bridge over the Bow River. South side parking is more challenging to access but more convenient to the trail head on the paved Bow River Pathway on the south side of the railway tracks.
The trail begins at an obvious spot on the right side of the paved Bow River Pathway at the metal gate before proceeding past a bicycle rack and a large boulder with brass plaques onto relatively level dirt path through inviting forest which curls gracefully east to soon rise a short distance above the Bow River Pathway with an increase in trail complexity which creates the wilderness experience.

A long about 170 car East Bound Intermodal,leader is GE 8715 es44ac,9530 ac4400cw,....DPU 8547 ac4400cw....DPU 8642 ac4400cw....DPU 9822 ac4400cw.again hard to hear but they honked the horn at Edworthy a couple km away so I knew something was on the way,had to find a gap in the trees to get the video.

Barely caught this east bound CWR Continuous Welded Rail Train. Heading east they are very quiet being they seem to be coasting down hill,the only clue is if they blast the horn at Edworthy Park Crossing.heads up.The fence along this path makes for poor video unless your 8 feet tall or pack a ladder.

Edworthy Park: Before Flood Re-Opening
June, 2015.
Was on my way home when I noticed people across the river in Edworthy Park after it had been closed for some time due to the 2013 flood. Spun back around to see the gate open and gave it a pre-pass tour.

It's one of the best parks for outdoor picnics in Calgary. Known for its plentiful picnic areas where tall trees give you shades and keep the environment quiet and separate you from other groups in the park. Edworthy Park is one awesome park that everyone must experience!
Edworthy Park is a city park located in the southwest quadrant of Calgary along the shore of the Bow River. It's a 1.27 square kilometer big park and contains over 5 kilometers of hiking and biking trails which is part of the Bow River pathway.
This park is one of the favorite locations for geocaching of the enthusiasts of this sport. Geocaching is an outdoor sporting activity in which the participants use GPS (Global Positioning System) service or mobile device to hide and seek containers. These containers are what they call as geocaches or caches.
There are a lot of tree species that can be found in Edworthy Park. That includes riparian woodland with aspen, willow and balsam poplar. Grasslands and mixed shrubland also make up a large area of the park. The park also has an escarpment where white spruces dominates. Within the spruce is a great population of Douglas-fir which some of them are more than 400 years old.
Whether you want to go on a picnic on a summer day, or tobogganing and country skiing on winter days, Edworthy Park can provide you with a wonderful natural environment and great amenities that will surely make the park experience truly memorable!
