Elora Cataract Trailway
Took the trailway out to the 16 km marker from Elora. This route starts at the trailhead off Gerrie Road in Elora and heads to Fergus. Once in Fergus you have to navigate across town to re-connect with the trail on the east side. Includes Belwood Lake, the Shand Dam and I even passed a snapping turtle (I think). The trail is in excellent shape overall with a bit of loose gravel over the dam.

Elora to Cataract Rail Trail Hike, Bellwood Lake Ontario
The 47 km Elora-Cataract Trail follows the right-of-way of a former rail line (1880-1988). This slideshow, focussing on the segment adjacent to Bellwood Lake, Ontario, features floral close-ups and landscapes of the surrounding farmland. Sweet Days by guitarist Tim Bolton, provides a pleasant musical accompaniment to the pastoral images.

Elora Gorge Hiking Trail, Grand River Elora Ontario
Elora Gorge is an Ontario (Canada) geological treasure. Created 15 000 years ago from the torrential glacial meltwaters ending the last ice age, the 25 metre (82 foot) deep gorge spans 2.2 kilometres (1.4 miles). This slide show features winter and summer landscapes and riverscapes. Accompanied by contemporary arrangements of Johann Sebastian Bach compositions, the images are bookended with nature quotes by Aeschylus and John Muir.

Hiking the Elora Gorge
July 29, 2018 - Daniel's 22nd birthday.
We spent the day hiking the Elora Gorge Conservation Area Trails, Ontario, Canada. We walked for hours, walked through rushing water, hung out by a waterfall, built rock structures and later had dinner and went to a mini casino for the first time. It was a good day!

Grand River Lake Belwood Autumn, Wellington County Canada
The former 1879 Credit Valley Railway linking Belwood (1858) became the Elora-Cataract Trail. The 1942 Shand Dam and reservoir control seasonal flooding. The reservoir augments summer flows; the GRCA manages the dam and 1350 hectare recreation park. Spring, summer and autumn views of Belwood Lake and its forested shores.
