Cold War Highway to NoWhere ! (Shoemaker Canyon Road 2019 HD) San Gabriel Mountains
Beautiful and Cool hike to Historic Shoemaker Canyon Road aka the Cold War highway to NoWhere ! We started out on the trail to Bridge to NoWhere to find a Waterfall I came across several years ago off into one of the many stream valleys. However when we got the first crossing of the San Gabriel River (East Fork) to continue the trail, the water was too high and too fast and we were not prepared. We would have had to get totally wet, at least up to our waste if not higher and possibly carried down the river for bit if slipped. So we went to plan B, nearby Shoemaker Canyon Road.
Cold War era leaders determined Los Angeles residents needed an escape route through the San Gabriel Mountains in case of a nuclear attack. Construction work began on Shoemaker Canyon Road. The 25-mile escape route would have connected the San Gabriel East Fork Road with Largo Vista in the Mojave Desert.
Work started in 1956, but only four miles was finished. Construction officially stopped in 1969.
It has a name–Shoemaker Canyon Road.
It has stretch and direction–more than four miles hacked north across Angeles National Forest mountains within high sight of the San Gabriel and Morris reservoirs.
It has drains and tunnels and markers and after two decades of existence finally has earned a place on page H, square C4 of the 1980 edition of the Thomas Bros. map book.
Yet Shoemaker is a road to nowhere except, maybe, to memories of nuclear paranoia in America. For when first under construction in 1956, this highway pointed to Largo Vista and the Mojave Desert and was blueprinted in part as a Civil Defense escape from fallout; one route among a spiderwork of exits in all directions should Los Angeles be threatened, even executed by an atomic attack.
And evacuation seemed a good possibility in that era of fear which remained just small bursts of imagination short of individual panic.
The cold war was hot. Southern California could claim more home and public fallout shelters than SAC had bombs. …
But command posts now are flood and earthquake relief facilities. Fallout shelters are wine cellars. Civil Defense Day (once coincidental, but by no coincidence, to Pearl Harbor Day in California) is no longer marked on calendars.
And Shoemaker Canyon Road has met the same dead end. ...
Inmates from Sheriff's Department detention camps accomplished much of the construction. But in 1969, Los Angeles County budget cuts halted work on Shoemaker Canyon Road. In 1984, the area was granted wilderness status.
The San Gabriel Mountains are a mountain range located in northern Los Angeles County and western San Bernardino County, California, United States. The mountain range is part of the Transverse Ranges and lies between the Los Angeles Basin and the Mojave Desert, with Interstate 5 to the west and Interstate 15 to the east. This range lies in, and is surrounded by, the Angeles National Forest, with the San Andreas Fault as the northern border of the range.
The highest peak in the range is Mount San Antonio, commonly referred to as Mt. Baldy. Mount Wilson is another famous peak, famed for the Mount Wilson Observatory and the antenna farm that houses many of the transmitters for local media. The observatory may be visited by the public. On October 10, 2014, President Obama designated the area the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument. To date, The Trust for Public Land has protected more than 3,800 acres of land in the San Gabriel Mountains, its foothills and the Angeles National Forest

Your Genetic Privacy in the Big Data Era - Exploring Ethics
In the United States, privacy is considered a fundamental right. Yet today our activities are followed to a degree unfathomable not long ago by way of cell phones, online behaviors, and more. As genomic technologies continue to expand, another avenue now exists by which we may potentially be scrutinized: DNA sequence. Our genetic information contains our most private details, but we leave it everywhere and share the sequence closely with dozens or even hundreds of relatives. Laura Rivard, PhD, professor of biology at the University of San Diego, discusses ways in which our DNA may escape from our control, what can actually be done with the sequence, and whether there is cause for concern. History of the San Diego Zoo
The San Diego Zoo is a zoo in Balboa Park, San Diego, California, housing over 3,700 animals of more than 650 species and subspecies. Its parent organization, San Diego Zoo Global, is one of the largest zoological membership associations in the world, with more than 250,000 member households and 130,000 child memberships, representing more than a half million people. The San Diego Zoo was a pioneer in the concept of open-air, cageless exhibits that re-create natural animal habitats. It is one of the few zoos in the world that houses and successfully breeds the giant panda. In 2013, the zoo added a new Koalafornia Adventure exhibit, providing an updated Australian animal experience. 2017 will see the opening of Africa Rocks.
HISTORY
The San Diego Zoo grew out of exotic animal exhibitions abandoned after the 1915 Panama-California Exposition. Dr. Harry M. Wegeforth founded the Zoological Society of San Diego, meeting October 2, 1916, which initially followed precedents set by the New York Zoological Society at the Bronx Zoo. He served as president of the society until 1941. A permanent tract of land in Balboa Park was set aside in August 1921; on the advice of the city attorney, it was agreed that the city would own all the animals and the zoo would manage them. The zoo began to move in the following year. In addition to the animals from the Exposition, the zoo acquired a menagerie from the defunct Wonderland Amusement Park. Ellen Browning Scripps financed a fence around the zoo so that it could begin charging an entrance fee to offset costs. The publication ZooNooz commenced in early 1925.
Animal collector Frank Buck went to work as director of the San Diego Zoo on June 13, 1923, signed to a three-year contract by Wegeforth. William T. Hornaday, director of the Bronx Zoo, had recommended Buck for the job, but Buck quickly clashed with the strong-willed Wegeforth and left the zoo after three months to return to animal collecting.
After several other equally short-lived zoo directors, Wegeforth appointed the zoo's bookkeeper, Belle Benchley, to the position of executive secretary, in effect zoo director; she was given the actual title of zoo director a few years later. She served as zoo director from 1925 until 1953. For most of that time she was the only female zoo director in the world. She was succeeded as director by Dr. Charles Schroeder.
The San Diego Zoo was a pioneer in building cageless exhibits. Wegeforth was determined to create moated exhibits from the start, and the first lion area at the San Diego Zoo without enclosing wires opened in 1922.
Until the 1960s, admission for children under 16 was free regardless of whether they were accompanied by a paying adult.
The zoo's Center for Reproduction of Endangered Species (CRES) was founded in 1975 at the urging of Kurt Benirschke, who became its first director. CRES was renamed the division of Conservation and Research for Endangered Species in 2005 to better reflect its mission. In 2009 CRES was significantly expanded to become the Institute for Conservation Research.
An orangutan named Ken Allen was reported in several newspapers in the summer of 1985 for repeatedly escaping from the supposedly escape-proof orangutan enclosure.
The world's only albino koala in a zoological facility was born September 1, 1997, at the San Diego Zoo and was named Onya-Birri, which means ghost boy in an Australian Aboriginal language. The San Diego Zoo has the largest number of koalas outside of Australia.
In 2014, a colony of African penguins arrived for the first time in the zoo since 1979. They will be moved into Africa Rocks when it opens sometime in 2017.
In 2016, Baba, the last pangolin on display in North America, died at the zoo.
AFRICA ROCKS
A new exhibit called Africa Rocks is scheduled to open in 2017 after $10 million was donated to the zoo by 3800 donors. The current exhibit known as Cat Canyon will have 1930s era cages and grottoes replaced with new exhibits. Africa Rocks will feature new exhibits that will create a new African experience that includes Rady Falls and a Madagascar habitat. The 65-foot-tall Rady Falls will be the largest man-made waterfall in San Diego. The Madagascar habitat will showcase at most seven species of lemurs, including the endangered red-ruffed lemur. Africa Rocks will have a diversity of habitats and dozens of species. It will highlight some of the zoo’s most popular animals, such as leopards, zebras, hyraxes and African penguins, as well as those not seen at the zoo in more than 35 years, like hamadryas baboons.

SOMETHING HAPPENED In The Skies Over San Diego & Strange NY UFO Captured! 9/4/2018
SOMETHING HAPPENED In The Skies Over San Diego & Strange NY UFO Captured! 9/4/2018 - Alien Bros is a team of UFO researchers specializing in military bases like Area 51 & Kapustin Yar. In this video we examine 2 fast mover UFO sightings one from Indianapolis captured in 2015 and another from Havana Cuba captured on August 27th of 2018 and both show UFOs possibly warping reality. Afterwards we share a UFO video from Cedarhurst New York that was captured on August 29th of 2018 and it shows some of the clearest UFO footage I have ever seen and details of the unknown craft can easily be seen when examining the footage. It is very clearly extraterrestrial in origin as there is nothing on this Earth that looks anything like it that can fly. It is a true UFO sighting it is one of the best ones I have ever seen. Finally we share a sighting from Baja California, in Mexico of strange lights which were originally posted by our friend UFO MAN and Mavi777 on 8/11/18. Finally we talk about some news regarding the strange unknown lights ( UFOs ) that were filmed over San Diego on August 30th of 2018. The footage found here is shocking to say the least and disclosure needs to come. Our government has leaked and continues to leak classified information on the alien phenomenon and our military is working on a space force to protect our army, Navy, Air Force, National Guard, and marines secrets and their involvement with aliens and UFOs. Our military In regards to all these UFO sightings it is possible this is something military maybe Air Force , Army , NAVY , Coast Guard , National Guard , etc. I just have a feeling this unknown object is something ET . FYI Rumors stemming from the Pentagon UFO footage leak say that a NASA employee has handed over two pieces of classified UFO footage that NASA found strange and will not be recorded in FLIR thermal like the AATIP footage was. Is the government and the Air Force covering up UFOs? What does the United States government know? This government cover-up needs to end. The evidence is amazing and pointing to someone in the shadows pulling the strings. We the people need to band together and truly fight for answers to the UFO phenomenon and end this government cover up forever. 2017 is over. UAP are real. We here at Alien Bros touch on all topics relating to the alien phenomenon and do our best to make sure you guys, the viewers, get every detail possible. WWII FLIGHT TESTS OF XCG-16 CARGO GLIDER DESIGNED BY HAWLEY BOWLUS 28754
This fascinating, silent 16mm movie comes from the estate of William Hawley Bowlus (May 8, 1896 - August 27, 1967) or someone who was close to him. Bowlus was a designer, engineer and builder of aircraft (especially gliders) and recreational vehicles in the 1930s and '40s. Shown in this film is the plywood XCG-16a experimental military glider, which was ordered by the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1943 based on designs made by Bowlus in 1942. The glider was supposed to be able to fly at 200 miles per hour and carry a 4300 lb. howitzer and full gun crew, or a full squad of twenty soldiers.
The test flights shown were in July of 1944. They likely took place in Orlando, Florida although it's possible they were filmed at either Rosamand or the Oxnard Flight Strip, later known as Oxnard Air Force Base and later Camarillo Airport. As you can see, the XCG-16 represented a radical departure from single fuselage designs and incorporated a twin boom, flying wing type design. The glider front wing opened like jaws with the bottom swinging down as a ramp resting on the ground. The glider could carry 42 troops or two howitzers. It had retractable landing gear, a wingspan of 91.8 feet, and weighed in at 9,500 pounds empty.
Roughly 8 months before this film was made the prototype aircraft was involved in a serious accident that killed several passengers including Richard Dupont the special assistant to General Hap Arnold. The cause of the accident was simple: weighted bags that had been placed on the aircraft to act as ballast shifted in flight, causing the airplane to go into a flat spin.
The tests shown here likely represented a last ditch effort to save the Cargo Glider program. Apparently during the stint in Florida over 30 hours of flight time were put on the aircraft, and 50 successful landings were made. Pilots involved included the famed Northrop test pilot Johnny Meyers and Paul E. Tuntland. However while it showed some promise, the aircraft's lack of emergency exits, lack of good lateral visibility for the co-pilot, poor loading ramps, and other deficiencies made it a tough sell to the Air Force. Time was also against the glider, as there was little interest in new models after June, 1944, and while Bowlus believed that there would be a post-war role for gliders as cargo aircraft, it never developed. After the USAAF terminated the contract, no production models of the aircraft were made and the plane shown here likely ended up as toothpicks.
(To read more on this aircraft visit
Today Hawley Bowlus is most widely known for his key role in the design of Airstream travel trailers, which followed his prior famed work as the Superintendent of Construction on Charles Lindbergh's aircraft, the Spirit of St. Louis.
Bowlus was an expert at soaring flight and at building gliders, established numerous records, trained many of America's earliest glider pilots, and gave gliding lessons to both Charles and Anne Morrow Lindbergh. In 1930 he and Lindbergh glided at various locations in California. Most notably Point Loma in San Diego California where Bowlus conducted many of his flights and tests.
Charles Lindbergh established a regional distance record for gliders by flying in a Bowlus sailplane from Mount Soledad in La Jolla to Del Mar, making use of the lift at the Torrey Pines Gliderport. Anne Morrow Lindbergh also flew in a Bowlus sailplane from Mount Soledad and became the first woman in the United States to receive a first class glider license (Maxine Dunlap had preceded her in becoming the first woman in the United States to receive a glider license of any kind (a third class glider license). Bowlus was also the first American to break Orville Wright's 1911 soaring duration record in an American designed and built sailplane. Bowlus was inducted into the Soaring Hall of Fame in 1954.

FRANK CAPRA'S LOST COLD WAR MOVIE THE FALLBROOK STORY 88844
Rarely seen by the public, The Fallbrook Story (1952) is a short subject film that told the story of a water rights battle between the citizens of the Fallbrook, California area and the federal government. It was produced (without credit) by Frank Capra, and uses many of the techniques he utilized in his famous series of WWII-era propaganda films including the Why We Fight series.
The government wanted to have exclusive rights to the water from the Santa Margarita river for the use of adjacent Camp Pendleton, the U.S. Marine Corps base, in conflict with the established use by local ranchers. At the time film director Frank Capra served on the Board of the local water agency, the Fallbrook Public Utilities District (FPUD). He produced this short film (without on screen credit) to tell the story from the ranchers perspective, leading to front page publicity from the Los Angeles Times. As a result, the federal government subsequently withdrew their claim on exclusive use of the water. The film was introduced on camera by Cecil B. DeMille.
The background on this film dates to 1952, when Frank Capra and other owners of large ranches in the Fallbrook community banded together to build a dam and thus gain control of area water rights. Capra and a number of other big landowners served on FPUD, Fallbrook's utility and water commission. This board had the responsibility of overseeing the dam project, which included condemning the land of several smaller landowners in the community. When the small landowners complained, the federal government brought suit against FPUD to stop the dam. Capra felt compelled to shoot this film on the subject, The Fallbrook Story, in which he asked, Are non-elective usurpers of power in Washington to prevail over the American people? Is Liberty to die? Is freedom to become but a memory? Ironically, the name of the small landowners' opposition group, the Willow Glen Water Users Protective Association, failed to remind Capra of the Willet Creek dam project opposed by Jefferson Smith in Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. Eventually FPUD was investigated by a Grand Jury, and although the commission was cleared of any deliberate, illegal wrongdoing, the Jury chastised FPUD for its lack of regard for small landowners in the community. Capra, however, had by that time resigned from the commission and made his escape back to Hollywood.

J. Krishnamurti - San Diego 1974 - Convers. 17 - Meditation, a quality of attention that pervades...
J. Krishnamurti - San Diego 1974 - Conversation 17 - Meditation, a quality of attention that pervades all of one's life
Summary:
Q: What is meditation?
Do we accept the orthodox, traditional, Christian, Hindu, Buddhist, Sufi meditation, or could we put away all that and ask: what is meditation?
To start from not knowing what meditation is, then I'm free to flow in the inquiry.
Is meditation divorced from daily living or does meditation cover the whole field of existence?
In my inquiry am I awake or is the past so alive that it is dictating my life in the present?
Is there a way of living without control? Can I live a life of meditation in which there is no control?

A SHORT NOTE ABOUT FIGHTING IMMIGRATION FRAUD
As an deportation defense lawyer, almost nothing is as disheartening as immigration fraud.
Week after week, I receive calls from distraught immigrants. Too often, it's too late.
One gentleman, age 52, came into my San Diego immigration attorney office about three weeks ago. He asked if I could help his wife. They had gone to her green card interview. The immigration officer said his divorce certificate from the Dominican Republic was a fake. His wife was sent to immigration court to face deportation charges.
A few days earlier, at my Riverside immigration lawyer office, I was contacted by a cousin of a local community leader. She was calling about her neighbor's gardener. He had an upcoming appointment to meet with immigration officials. The meeting was to see if he qualified for permanent residency under asylum. But he never applied for asylum.
Unfortunately, these are not isolated incidents.
I hear about similar immigration scam stories throughout Southern California -- from clients needing help in San Bernardino , Riverside, and San Diego offices.
Likewise, at my Phoenix immigration lawyer and Avondale immigration attorney offices. I've learned about immigrants victimized by notarios, lawyers, and immigration assistants in Arizona.
In short, immigration fraud is an epidemic - a silent epidemic sucking the life blood out of many deserving immigrant families.

The actual numbers of victims are unknown. Most defrauded immigrants are too afraid to alert authorities.
But there are common patterns.
Knowing these patterns can help you, your family, or your friends avoid becoming another victim of immigration fraud.
In this video, I share the patterns I see most often.
By sharing them, I hope to save immigrants losing their chances to live and work legally in the U.S. Like many victims, I'm ticked off at these rip-offs. But getting mad won't solve the problem. Getting smarter and wiser will.
The more we teach immigrants what to look out for, the less they remain vulnerable to the schemes of immigration con artists.
YOUR HELP TO FIGHT IMMIGRATION SCAM ARTISTS IS NEEDED
After watching this video, we hope you're never trapped by this deadly epidemic.
And please share with any of your family members or friends who may someday need immigration help. As my mother taught me, it's better to be safe than sorry.
