The A 540 PARKGATE ROAD, CHESHIRE, THE NEED FOR A REFURBISHED CYCLE LANE
The A540 trunk road is a 60 mph dual carriageway that links Neston to Chester, when dualed about 40 years ago it had a dedicated cycle lane on one side, now due to lack of attention, its mostly overgrown and un-rideable,so us cyclists have to share the road with cars and also many Lgvs going to the Aldi distribution depot at Neston.
Sadly there have been numerous collisons on this road, and 2 cyclists have been killed.
The Eureka cyclists cafe features at the end of the video, one of the oldest cyclists cafes in the uk. Opened 1929.
There is a petition asking the council to reinstate the cycle route, details below.
Please sign it its free and will make cycling safer for us all that use that road.
Alan records the Liverpool Chester Liverpool Bike Ride 2012
L C L Bike ride is an annual bike ride starting in Liverpool UK.
Riders use the Queensway tunnel to reach Birkenhead and continue to Chester
where some riders finish.
Most cyclists return to Liverpool, completing their 50 mile bike ride
Cyclists' need refreshments
Bicyclists need refuelling at regular intervals.
The Eureka Cyclists' Cafe in Woodbank, has been both a meeting place and a refuel stop for more than 80 years.
Meet some of the 100's of cyclists' as they set-off together through the quiet countryside.
Enjoy listening to the friendly banter.....as old friends relive their memories.
Then I take you for lunch to Old Ma's Coffee Shop in Tattenhall, and meet cyclists' from other areas of Merseyside & Cheshire.
Finally, a few clips of Tandem Across America.
BBC 40 Minutes Programme - Me And My Bike (1989)
Er....well, it's 36 minutes long actually; the beginning has been accidently wiped from the VHS source!.
Nevertheless this is a marvellous and quirky programme from 1989 which takes a look at a cross-section of people and their love of bikes and all things cycling.
We meet an elderly couple who did their courting by bike, a young couple from Uttoxeter who sold everything to cycle around the world (does anyone know what became of them?), a man who makes bicycles even though cycling has caused him personal loss, a visit to the Eureka Cycling Café near Chester plus much more!.
Parkgate road A540 at the Eueka Cyclists cafe
The A 540 is a single carrrige way road that opens up to a dual carrigeway at the Eureka cyclists cafe, the speed limit also increases from 50 mph to 60 mph, and is very dangerous to inexperienced cyclists, cyclists want a cyclewway along the footway from chapel lane to the eureka and a dedicated cyclists crossing, along with an advanced stop line for cyclists, Cheshire West council have said NO.
The main road is also just off the national cycle network at Chapel lane
Collier's Cheshire Cycle Tour - Route 70
Fayrefield Foods were bowled over by support after staff were joined by former England cricketer Darren Gough on a 176-mile cycle ride in aid of Mid-Cheshire Hospitals’ MRI Scanner Appeal.
The 13-strong team was headed up by managing director Nick Hilton and cycled under the company’s award-winning ‘Collier’s Powerful Welsh Cheddar’ brand, of which Darren Gough is the ambassador.
The circular course, which started and finished at Fayrefield’s head office in Englesea House, Barthomley Road, took them two and a half days to complete.

CTC South East Group - 40th Anniversary Documentary!
Over the past year, longstanding CTC member Brian Penny and I have been travelling throughout Essex, with AV gear in tow, to interview some of the people who helped to make the South Essex section of the Cyclists' Touring Club (CTC) so worthwhile. This is their story - and for that matter the story of recreational cycling in the county. This video, in better quality and without the prominent logo, is available on DVD. For your twelve quid, you'll also get three or so hours of additional material. A must for anyone interested in cycling history or touring. Profits will be donated to Essex Air Ambulance (one of the ''DVD extras' will tell you why) and Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital. I can also make documentary films of this standard for your event, cause or business. My details are in the end credits.

Merseyside CTC President's Ride 2008
I joined the Liverpool section of the Cyclist Touring Club in 1957 and have lots of fond memories of club riding.
This video is produced in memory of two friends -
John & Jean Cull who did so much for Liverpool Cyclists'.
I use Merseyrail to transport me and my bike from Bebington to Ormskirk station where I join fellow CTC members on the Annual President's Run to Scarisbrick Village Hall.
Merseyside CTC - Hargrave Social Event 2009
This video starts with a Police dog checking me for carrying drugs when I arrive at Chester railway station.
Then I visit Tattenhall Marina by Cheshire Ice Cream Farm before having lunch with the Merseyside CTC group at Hargrave Village Hall.
The social event over - I take you to Walk Mill - a modern flour mill - build on the site of the original Walk Mill at Stapleford by Waverton,
Walk Mill uses water power from the River Gowy to turn the metal wheel.
Many cyclists' visit Walk Mill Café for refreshments.
As do many walkers that explore this interesting part of Cheshire.

Our ride (runs) leader then takes part of the main group to a Café for afternoon Tea...Ice Cream for other...before we make our way home using Merseyrail again.
It was good to see the Mersey Roads Club at the annual meeting, but where was the MRC President ?
