Point Puer Boys Prison Port Arthur Tasmania 2
Point Puer was the first Prison set up to detain juveniles. Prior to this the boys were just locked up with the men. This was deemed inappropriate for two reasons. The first being it was considered the men were a bad influence on the boys and the second was the convicts were hired out as labourers. The people doing the hiring didn't want the boys as the work was generally heavy labour. Thus the boys were left at the prison. So Point Puer was set up, where it was the boys would be separated from the men and could be taught a trade. Again it was raining and I used the waterproof housing which means the sound is pretty much non existent.
Grace and Fury
Audio recording of a lecture by Robert Adamson, CAL Chair in Poetry at the Centre for New Writing, University of Technology, Sydney.
Dorothy Hewett, Gwen Harwood and Fay Zwicky are pioneers of contemporary Australian poetry. They invented and adventured forms and lines from classic to post modern. Ahead of their time, their influence is continual and deep running. Bob Adamson examines the similarities and differences between these three important poets.
