We are pleased to offer owl experiences for individuals or a family group made up of friends and family. This is a fantastic opportunity to have that close encounter and interact with a diverse range of owl species. What better way to learn about these magnificent and fascinating hunters of the night than to witness first hand the incredible adaptation they have evolved in order to navigate and thrive in a world of darkness and indeed learn about many of the hazards they face in today’s modern world. This experience would make an ideal gift for a loved one.

An quick afternoon out at Rosliston Forestry Centre
We found ourselves with a couple of hours spare the other week so the boys and I headed down to Rosliston Forestry Centre. We stopped to see the deer at Dunstable on the way, built a den in the woods, went Gruffalo hunting in the pine trees, climbed over fallen trees and had a quick play on the big play area they have there. In fact we were the last ones on the play area. A great family destination not far from the yurts.

Stourhead - Fabulous English Landscape Garden - Wiltshire Attractions
A simply stunning English landscape garden, Stourhead presents you with a series of vistas across the valley to several follies, temples, bridges and Gothic ruins, each framed by mature trees on the hillsides. Those same garden structures that gave you great photo opportunities on the decent reveal their true beauty when viewed from the lakeside, where the reflections of Stourhead's mini architectural marvels leave you completely in awe of Henry Hoare II - the creator of Stourhead in the 1740's. As we strolled around the edge of Hoare's lake, a choir standing on the lawns near the Bristol Cross (tall needle like structure) burst into song and the acoustic effect of the valley and the sight across the lake were just wonderful. The only downer was the weather - a bright start to the day turned to drizzling briefly when we arrived at Stourhead with dense overcast skies, and only about a 5 minute break when the sun broke through. Hence most of my photos are a little over-tweaked in Photoshop to overcome the flat lighting - at least that's my excuse! I hope to make a return visit for some Autumn colour - I can hardly wait!

The Great Mediaeval Summer 2
Every day during the summer you can get a real taste of mediaeval life at Warwick Castle. Experience the drama and terror of a household preparing or battle at Kingmaker 1471. Relive a gruesome 400-year-old murder in Warwick Ghosts Alive. And visit the majestic State Rooms with Henry VIII and his wives in residence over the summer.
There are also traditional displays of falconry, archery and mediaeval combat. Not to mention the heart-stopping spectacle of jousting. Plus the mighty Trebuchet -- the world's largest siege machine -- will be shot twice daily. It's a day that will go down in history -- whatever the weather.

Pentrich Rising Bicentenary Special, radicalism, British History, last British armed revolt,
200 years after the events in Pentrich, Derbyshire in June 1817, The Pentrich and South Wingfield Revolution Group have organised a series of events to commemorate an uprising that was fomented by government agents, and brutally crushed and punished by the authorities.
Hayley Considine joins a group of walkers recreating the march, and learns more about this much-overlooked moment in British Radical history.

The Pentrich Rising
The Pentrich rising was an armed uprising in 1817 that began around the village of Pentrich, Derbyshire, in the United Kingdom. It occurred on the night of 9/10 June 1817. While much of the planning took place in Pentrich, two of the three ringleaders were from South Wingfield and the other was from Sutton in Ashfield; the 'revolution' itself started from Hunt's Barn in South Wingfield, and the only person killed died in Wingfield Park.
A gathering of some two or three hundred men (stockingers, quarrymen and iron workers), led by Jeremiah Brandreth ('The Nottingham Captain'), (an unemployed stockinger, and claimed by Gyles Brandreth as an ancestor - although unlikely since Brandreth's children emigrated to America), set out from South Wingfield to march to Nottingham. They were lightly armed with pikes, scythes and a few guns, which had been hidden in a quarry in Wingfield Park, and had a set of rather unfocused revolutionary demands, including the wiping out of the National Debt.[1]
One among them, William J. Oliver, was however a government spy, and the uprising was quashed soon after it began. Three men were hanged and beheaded at Derby Gaol for their participation in the uprising: Jeremiah Brandreth, Isaac Ludlam and William Turner.
