Superb Model Railway Layout in OO Gauge and one of the finest in British Railway Modelling
Once again, Pilentum presents one of the finest model railway layouts made in Great Britain. It is the third layout made by the British model railroader Peter Goss. The model railway - built in OO scale or 4 mm or OO gauge - is based on the North Yorkshire market town of Knaresborough. It was completed at the end of 2014 and has been presented at model railway exhibitions since then.
Pete Goss started planning this model railway in 2009, and after extensive survey work and detailed planning model construction finally commenced in February 2010. The scenery is set in the time period around 2005 to 2015. The rolling stock includes the modern day colorfully liveried diesel multiple units (DMU) and several long special trains, for example the “Northern Belle Pullman” or the “Scarborough Spa Express”. The layout has only a simple branch line theme with trains running through the station on a twin track continuous circuit run.
The market town setting contains a very strong historical theme. It is that theme of model railroading that Pete is very familiar with. Pete has always had a fascination with railways and buildings. His main interest is the architecture and styles of old and historic buildings and displaying them at a true scale within the realms of railway modelling. Over the years, Pete has attended model railway exhibitions all over the United Kingdom and also in Germany, Netherlands and Belgium.
The model railway layout in this video got the name “The Worlds End”, because this name refers to the pub that is located near the railway station of Knaresborough. Apart from the train station, the model railway layout contains a large stone built and ornate viaduct over the River Nidd which is around five feet long and 14 inches high. And, there are other scenes on the layout that will intrigue and entertain folks whilst watching the model trains go by. Substantial numbers of metal cast and converted plastic model figures have been employed on the layout and inside the coaches. Pete’s model railway layout was shown at the great Norwich Model Railway Exhibition in 2017. Pilentum made this video at the International Scale Model Exhibition in Dortmund, Germany, in 2018.

Darley Branch Line is located down the far end of the building as am I as I tend to centre my activities on operating this section of the layout. This behind the scenes footage shows how this section of the layout operates independently from the main circuits where impressive behemoths like what passes me by lurk on a regular basis. For example 66135 (EWS) tows 24 MOA Box Wagons as a Class 25 'Rat' passes it in the opposite direction. Finally we see 56079 (BR Blue) with a grand total of 30 HAA Hopper Wagons in tow. All aspects of the hobby were covered, new and second hand models, building a layout, scenery, electronics, digital control, scratch and kit building rolling stock.

Famous Trains Tinsley Celebrity Locos of the late 1980s!
Famous Trains is located in Markeaton Park, Derby and is open to the public on Saturdays / Sundays / Mondays for a very reasonable admission fee. This section of the main centrepiece layout stretches for over 60 feet throughout the main building and represents Chinley in the Midland Railway days although trains of all eras can be seen operating. Here one of our Members demonstrates the DCC Control principle with some cleverly operated freight activity on the main layout where two Class 20 locomotives which were repainted in 1987 as celebrity locos 'top and tail' a nuclear flasks duty. Tinsley (TI) based 20030 'River Rother' and 20064 'River Sheaf' were also the first Tinsley (Sheffield) based locomotives to ever carry unofficial painted and stencilled 'Tinsley Names' as made more popular on Railfreight Distribution Class 37s and 47s which were once based there. Come and pay us a visit for a family friendly and in many respects a hands on railway experience where something is on offer for everyone. Even operating an authentic Hornby Dublo layout!

Gordon Toby Duck Great Thomas Train Race Amazing Trains Epping Model Railway Part 2
Thomas Cheese Epping Model Railway 2015 & What's The Future Of Train Shows? Part 1
Model Railway Train Show by the Epping Model Railway Club in 2015. This yearly Queens Birthday weekend railway expo in Sydney is one of the larger train shows. It has an amazing second hand area where I have collected some rare Thomas & Friends ERTL and Take Alongs in the past. The trick to getting the good stuff is be there early on the opening day. I also toy hunt the old Hornby Tri-ang model trains that were made in England. In part 2 you will see the amazing HO scale DUNGOG. This is a beautifully detailed model of Dungog railway station located on the main north coast railway to Brisbane, Australia. Details were carefully transposed from actual site inspections and photo's. The scenery used behind the model is the actual photo's as seen from the real railway. Overall this is a large highly detailed model railway that has an Australian theme. Next is the ever popular Thomas U Drive. This exhibit featured Hornby Thomas models, there is Gordon, Duck and Toby (Thomas The Tank was out of steam). It's the perfect place to have a Thomas & Friends train race. Next is a traders display called Model O Kits. This hyper detailed O scale layout was set at adult height and showed the famous AD60 Class Garratt. O scale is popular because of the extreme detailing that can be achieved, this scale is also used across the popular On30 scale railways. Next was a very different layout called Mueller Ghost Town. The is layout uses On30 so it's HO track and O gauge trains and scenery. On30 is used to model narrow gauge railway's against the full size O Gauge trains. Ghost Town is based on a book about ghost towns in the American West where the Gold rush that saw the population explode. After the gold rush so often empty ghost towns were left behind. Next exhibit is called Valley Heights which is in O gauge. This is an interpretation of a unique NSWGR loco depot. This DCC layout is designed and created by John Parker as an exercise in the construction of a lightweight modular O scale layout. It's proof that O gauge layouts don't need to be huge and near impossible to exhibit. This was one of the best layouts on show, highly detailed and very easy to witness. Next is railway with a very local feel called Ashburn and it's HO scale. This is a fictitious suburb located somewhere on the Western Sydney rail line. It's timeline is somewhere in the late 60's and it has the added details of the Sydney trains electrified system. Seeing the Red Rattlers was something I could relate to because they are the trains I went to school on in the 1970's. Ashburn is a great example of stylised detailing that highlights the trains. It's very Sydney and I'm sure it was a crowd favourite. Next we look over the Kids Scenery Clinic presented by the 7th Division of the National Model Railway Association. Both my children have enjoyed this section of the train show, it's a fantastic experience that quickly shows you how simply nice miniature detailing can be achieved. Last display is the brilliant Smugglers Cove by Geoff Nott & Michael Flack. This 3 part ultra high detailed model railway is On30 gauge and scale. It's based on the New England area of the USA. Geoff and Michael took photo's of Cape cod, Boothbay Harbour, Bar Harbour and Kennebunkport to model Smugglers cove. Sadly Geoff Nott passed away during the construction of this layout and it stands as evidence today of the amazing depth of detail he and Michael have achieved. The buildings are all scratch built in card and paper. Wood strips and re-purposed everyday items were used to detail the layout. It's a very different exhibit because it's not really about the model trains, they play a very small part and are only a tiny fraction of what's to see. There is many layerings of details, and little stories being played out all over the miniature. Inside many buildings the tiny details extend to make this exhibit something that's worth the entry fee into the exhibit. Smugglers Cove has been promised display in the Model Railway museum being established in Sacramento California.
A little bird tells me the 2016 Epping Model Railway Brick Pit train show will be much better than the tiny 2015 exhibit. I dare say only time will tell!
