On October 9th, 2014, I flew from Amsterdam to Bristol, England. This video is the descent into Bristol.
Monarch Airlines, first Cosmos flight 5th April 1968, Bristol Britannia from Luton Airport to Madrid
First Monarch Airlines / Cosmos flight, Luton airport to Madrid 5th April 1968. Bristol 175 Britannia 312.
This film made the rounds of the Monarch offices at the company 40th anniversary.
The music is the original soundtrack.
Passengers had to depart from the offices at London Victoria station in the brand new Monarch Airlines coach - not sure why, I guess they were the rules at the time.
The approach to Luton Airport was via Cuttenhoe road.
Passengers checked in their baggage at the (then) new airport terminal, then walked across the tarmac to the aircraft (G-AOVI?) parked outside hangar 7+8.

If you're wondering what to see in 1 Day, join us for this virtual tour of Clifton in Bristol, as we make our way to the famous Clifton Suspension Bridge - the symbol of the city.
We start in Victoria Square and walk through to Boyce's Avenue - site of the Clifton Arcade as well as many charming cafes, coffee shops and independent retailers such as the Primrose Cafe, Saffron, Reg the Veg and Papersmiths.
We cross the road and follow Princess Victoria Street - taking time to explore it's wealth of independent shops, restaurants and cafes, detouring along the way to discover Waterloo Street and The Mall.
Back on Princess Victoria Street, we follow it down to the White Lion on Sion Hill, where we turn right to catch our first view of the iconic Victorian Clifton Suspension Bridge.
We pass the Old Clifton Rocks Railway on our way uphill towards the toll booth at the start of the bridge. Walking onto the bridge gives us a stunning view of the Avon Gorge below on this sunny but windy day.
We continue for an even better view and wind our way up to the Clifton Observatory above St Vincent's Rocks. This site, (which houses a cave once used as a temple in ancient times - known also as Ghyston's cave or Giant's Cave) provides a stunning view of the entire span of the bridge as it straddles the Avon Gorge.

TRIP REPORT - Ryanair B738 / Alicante Spain - Bristol UK / Engine view
Hello, and welcome aboard everyone's favorite (I joke) budget airline, Ryanair, as I fly home from the south of Spain to the United Kingdom.
I always know what I'm going to get with Ryanair, so I've become accustomed to the cheap ways of the carrier, but I can't ever complain since I only paid £25 for this Friday morning departure, onboard my favorite aircraft type!
The flight itself was pleasant and the flight crew was friendly. Despite a quick look over the extensive menu, I decided against any of the fairly priced food as I'd blown the last of the trips euros in the spacious Alicante terminal, on overpriced snacks...
The other hidden joy flying no-thrills is the promise of a jet boarding as these airlines look to save money by using buses instead of jetways. The walks give a rare close-up glimpse of these beautiful pieces of machinery, usually only afforded to First Officers and ground handlers.
The flight itself was beautiful and smooth, and the time went by at a good pace since I brought my own entertainment onboard. A full service went through the cabin shortly after take-off, then another smaller drinks service closer

GRACEFUL FLIGHT - Hot-Air Balloon over Bristol UK
The Bristol International Balloon Fiesta is held annually in England. Teams from the UK and other parts of the world bring their hot air balloons to the site and participate in mass ascents where as many as 100 balloons may launch at a time.
The event was first held in 1979 and is now one of the largest in Europe. It is common to have crowds of over 100,000 on each of the four days of the festival.[1] It takes place in a large country estate Ashton Court. Mass launches are made twice a day, at 6am and 6pm, subject to weather conditions.
One popular attraction is the night glow, when balloons are inflated and glow to music after dark. These are held on the opening Thursday night at approx 9:30pm, followed by a spectacular fireworks display. There is another night glow at the same time followed by the fireworks on the Saturday night. Some people see these as the highlight of the fiesta.[2]
The balloon makers Cameron Balloons are near to the fiesta site, in Bedminster, and make many of the special shaped balloons, which have included Rupert the Bear, The Scottish Piper, Bertie Bassett, the Tesco Trolley, Stuart the Minion, and the BBC One Balloon. Many shapes have also attended the fiesta from abroad, over the years a UFO and a beaver have travelled from the USA, a kiwi bird from New Zealand, and an upside down balloon from the Netherlands.
In the past, the fiesta used to be held in the second week of September, but due to cancellations of flights and the muddy ground because of bad weather, it has been moved in the start of August. This has had a great effect as more flights manage to fly; cancellations are now normally due to high winds.
The nightglow is one of the most popular parts of the fiesta.
In 2003, the weight of crowds returning from the Balloon Fiesta and Ashton Court festival put such a great strain on the Clifton Suspension Bridge that it was decided to close the bridge to all traffic, including pedestrians, during these events from 2004 onwards.[3]
In recent years, the event has diversified to include small scale air displays, attracting the likes of The Blades, Typhoon display team and the Red Arrows.
On 10 August 2013 they broke a balloon fiesta record after 74 balloons landed in one field near the former Somerdale Factory in Keynsham. [4] The record was then broken a year later, when 90 balloons again landed in the former Cadbury's chocolate factory on 9 August.[5]...

Bristol Brabazon - First Flight 1949
The Largest Aircraft Ever Built By Britain: The Bristol Brabazon
With a wingspan greater than a Boeing 747, The Bristol Brabazon was the largest aircraft ever built by Britain. More a flying oceanliner than plane, it featured sleeping cabins, a dining room, a cocktail bar and lounge, and even a 23 seat movie theater.
The Brabazon was also fitted with cutting edge innovations. A fully pressurized, air conditioned cabin. Electric engine controls, and high-pressure hydraulics to operate its massive control surfaces. It’s enormous wing housed more than 16 thousand gallons of fuel, and eight of the most powerful piston engines available. While the first Brabazon used piston engines, later Brabazon were to use turboprop engines that were being developed by Bristol.
The Bristol Brabazon would have true transatlantic capability. Able to fly non-stop from London to New York against prevailing eastern winds. In the 1940’s, this would have been quite the feat. Transatlantic flights were almost always done in stages to allow for refueling.
Despite introducing new innovations, many of which influenced the future of aviation, the Brabazon’s driving philosophy was outdated. The Brabazon’s mission was to compete with ocean liners for ultra-wealthy passengers. But this lumbering, super-sized airliner would have been introduced with airlines for 1950’s, right around when the first jet airliners, like the De Havilland Comet, were taking to the skies. Aircraft like the Dash 80, which would become the 707, were also just around the corner, and would bring a transatlantic crossing down to as little as 7 hours.
After a massive design and development effort, Britain found itself stuck with a plane nobody actually wanted, designed for an era that no longer existed.The program was cancelled and the Brabazon, and half finished turboprop successor were sold for their weight in scrap. #BristolBrabazon #BritishAviation #WhiteElephant #Airplanes

Why You Wouldn't Want to Fly The First Jet Airliner: De Havilland Comet Story
Air travel before the Jet Age wasn’t always glamorous. The relentless noise and vibration from a piston powered propeller aircraft often made long flights even more exhausting. Most aircraft also couldn’t fly high enough to avoid bad weather, so air sickness was more common.
After World War Two, as part of an effort to develop its civil aviation industry, Britain stunned the world by unveiling the world's jet airliner. The de Havilland Comet was sleek, quiet, and flew higher and faster than any airliner of the day. As piston propeller technology was reaching its limits, the conventional thinking was that jet engines were too unreliable and produced too little power relative to their fuel consumption. But the de Havilland Comet proved that jet travel was the future. When the Comet entered service in 1952, it immediately began breaking travel time records and became a point of national pride for Britain.
The de Havilland Comet was perhaps little too ahead of it’s time. With such a clean sheet design, there will still lessons to learn. When early Comets suffered from catastrophic depressurization incidents, the entire fleet was grounded and their Certificate of Airworthiness was revoked. Flaws in the design of the aircraft’s fuselage were resolved in later Comet versions. However, the rest of the world was now catching up, and manufacturers including Boeing and Douglas began to offer their own jet airliners. While later version Comets served airlines reliably, they were outsold by competing aircraft. There's no question However, that the comet paved the way. The British had taken a massive risk and brought the world into the jet age. #DeHavilland #CometAirliner #Airplane

• The Kenneth Arnold UFO sighting occurred on June 24, 1947, when private pilot Kenneth Arnold saw a string of nine, shiny unidentified flying objects flying past Mount Rainier at speeds that Arnold estimated at a minimum of 1,200 miles an hour (1,932 km/hr). This was the first post-War sighting in the United States that garnered nationwide news coverage and is credited with being the first of the modern era of UFO sightings, including numerous reported sightings over the next two to three weeks. My First Flying Lesson | Piper PA-28 Arrow | Bristol Airport
A couple of weeks ago a offer came up on a 2 hour (1 in air, 1 on ground) trial flying lesson. I hadn't had one but was looking to start soon so I thought let's give it a go, It was perfect. I thoroughly enjoyed it and was allowed to take control on landing, takeoff and manouvere it in the air. The aircraft was a piper PA28 arrow (Usually would be the PA28 warrior). Excuse bad filming, was recorded by Parents. Music in Background -Jason Derulo, Fight for you (Instrumental).
