Mackerel fishing with Harry
Harry May began his deep sea and mackerel fishing trips from Lyme Regis back in 1970 when he started working for Victor Homyer, one of the well known local fishermen of the time. Every morning they would leave Lyme Regis harbour at 7am aboard Victor's boat 'Sunbeam' and travel four and a half miles south to an area of rocky ground where Victor had twenty five lobster pots. The catch usually consisted of about fifty pounds of crab and two or three lobsters.

MACKEREL FISHING ...SEASIDE VILLAGE BEER .....DEVON UK
The picture-postcard village of Beer, Devon nestles in Lyme Bay, on the 95-mile long Jurassic Coast, England’s first natural World Heritage Site and forms part of the South West Coastal Path. The shingle beach still boasts a small fleet of working fishing boats and the surrounding picturesque white chalk cliffs provide a natural suntrap sheltering the cove from prevailing westerly winds. We hired a boat at the beautiful seaside village and set off to fish for Mackerel. A fab day out off the Jurassic coast as they now call it .

Lyme Regis - a complete tour, peak summer.
My local beach of Lyme Regis filmed by me. Video of the fossil area, gardens, promenade, town centre, Cobb, harbour, beach and general views from multiple angles from one side of Lyme to the other.
CAUTION - I always notice the constant erosion of the cliff face changes all the time. My best advice is to check the tide timetable when walking out and beyond the fossil area to avoid being stranded by the sea. Fossils can be found but it helps having a dedicated fossil hunting rock hammer.
On the day of filming is at it's most peak and busiest you'll probably ever see. I personally prefer Lyme Regis in off peak, even winter months myself where you can sometimes have the entire fossil hunting area to yourself. Car parking in peak summer months, especially hot sunny days can be an issue all over Lyme Regis, but there are 2 park & ride zones.
Filmed by TRANCEHI on a Canon XA10 with a Rode Mic. The pan shots are flawless on the original film, Youtube conversion has caused some juddering unfortunately. I also hold the 1080p HD version for other possible projects.

Dive on the Wreck of the Rosehill on 1 Jun 08
The Rosehill was an armed merchant ship that was torpedoed by UB40 in September 1917 whilst travelling from Cardiff to Plymouth. Despite the damage she limped on towards Plymouth before she sank some 2 miles south of Portwrinkle off the Cornish coast. The James Egan Layne is about 2 miles to the east.
She lies along a SE-NW axis on a reef with lots of large rocks around. Her bows lie SE and her stern NW. Depth is about 29m and her 2 boilers stand proud at around 24m. Marks are 50:19:40; 04:18:25. She was over 300 ft long and had a gross tonnage of nearly 3000 tons.
Apart from the boilers she is well flattened and some of the wreckage is not easy to identify at first. You get the feeling that much lies underneath the steel plates that lie along the reef. The Rosehill abounds with fish - lots of them - poor cod, bass, pollack, wrasse, conger and many others. There are some large conger on the wreck. The plates are covered with fan coral.
One dive plan is to descend down to the boilers and head SE along the plates until you get to the bows wherein you can easily see the anchor embedded into the plates plus part of a mast. Then head back NW past the boilers to the stern. The stern section is well defined. Here there is a gun that is quite impressive. The steering gear, rudder and part of her propellor are clearly seen.
Despite the fact that the wreck lies on a reef a fine sediment is easily stirred up which, so visibility can often be quite poor on this wreck.
