Steamboat Springs KOA ???? & that Yampa River Life????❄️???? Full Time RV Winter Camping
A snowy morning at the KOA in Steamboat was a good enough reason to make a video. What a beautiful place! I really got lucky staying here. People keep asking Are you freezing? What are you going to do for heat? Are you ok? LOL. I just keep saying, its fine. Most days its a snug 68-70 inside the camper and the cooler nights are actually nice for deep sleep. So far, winter hasn't been an issue at all - thanks to the luxury of having electric hookups.

See Me Lodge by Retreatia in Steamboat Springs, CO
Book Today:
Join us in one of Steamboat Spring's Most Luxurious private homes. Prominent and visible from most parts of town, the highest home on the hill under the Silver Bullet Gondola, known by locals and vacationers alike. Overlooking the entire Yampa Valley, as well as South Routt County, the Flattops Wilderness area. To fully appreciate this Amazing custom built Montana Log Home, coined See Me Lodge on behalf of the owner's three children's initials. I will need to start at the beginning... From childhood during a lesson on pioneer days, building log homes out of sticks sparked an interest in Mike Donnelly, whose fascination of log homes grew over the years. With many ski trips to different states, he and his wife Mary fell in love with Colorado. For them it was then a matter of finding a tight knit, family driven, friendly community. Many trips, and long conversations later the couple chose Steamboat Springs to settle into and build the log home of their dreams, and then some. In order to fulfill this childhood dream unique log home Mike had in his mind, he needed to find the perfect builder. That's where Gabe Butler of Montana Log Homes of Colorado comes into the picture. The two joined forces to design, and build the perfect log home Mike had dreamed of most of his life. Breaking ground in 2006 with logs brought in from Glacier National Monument. Larger logs were flown by helicopter where they were all assembled before, being trucked to town. Each log has been skip finished with a draw knife, meaning not all of the darker color inner bark has been removed. They were then individually scribed, this tool transfers shapes from one log to another. Superior to conventional chinked construction, scribing allows the logs to fit together perfectly to create a solid log home. All of the vertical timbers in the home have adjusters that accept subtle shifts in the logs with time. These techniques give the atmosphere of a true western lodge, combined with wide plank floors, dramatic vaulted ceilings, lavish furniture, expansive windows, richly landscaped woodland of aspen, blue spruce, white pine, and juniper trees on a rugged hillside, luxurious decor, impressive stone columns, perfectly appointed bedrooms, boulder retaining walls, and spectacular spanning decks.
Let's go inside this exquisite six bedroom mountainside retreat.

Corporate Trips Like Never Before
Well organized corporate fly fishing trips are a few levels of fun above that, and with room to spare! The experienced as well as the freshly-baked anglers become one with nature in no time at all, tapping into inexplicable and powerful emotions, and they don't merely enjoy the sport -- they just love the suspense, the physical fun, the light-hearted battle of wits with the cunning inhabitants of rivers and lakes who remain invisible until they've hooked one!
company fly fishing toursThe awe-inspiring scenery, the serenity of the surroundings, the camaraderie -- are not merely unforgettable. They are inspiring, character building and friendship-cementing.
And just think about it. How exciting is paintball anyway? Or how stimulating are the stays at the, yawn, luxury resorts? Or how fascinating is spoiling a good walk with a few rounds of golf? Theater? Holiday parties? Tickets to sporting events? How done to death are all those and how... boring!

S.S. Coptic at Dock
SUMMARY
From F.Z. Maguire catalogue: Taken at the docks of the Pacific Steamship Co., San Francisco, Cal., which is operated in connection with the Southern Pacific Railroad Co. The Coptic is one of the best appointed, largest and fastest vessels that traverse the Pacific Ocean, and this view was taken as she was leaving for a voyage to the Sandwich Islands, Japan and China. The multitude of people crowding the decks and dock, waving hands, hats, &c, to each other, makes a stirring and life like scene. The picture is clear and sharp and the figures show life size.

The Drive to Chena Hot Springs Resort and Back (time-lapse)
This is a short video giving one perspective of the scenic drive out to the resort. It's an easy day trip, driving there, enjoying yourself, and then returning to Fairbanks. Starting in and returning to Fairbanks, the drive to Chena Hot Springs Resort is a lovely drive; I imagine it would be a superb motorcycle jaunt, too.
As you can see, there are very few places along Chena Hot Springs Road offering gas and/or sundries; be sure to prepare while you're in Fairbanks. There are numerous beautiful pull-overs for hiking, kayaking, and a couple that I saw offered picnic areas--accompanied by bear-proof rubbish disposals, a reminder to leave no trace.
In addition to lodging, the destination, Chena Hot Springs Resort, offers visitors/guests tours of its famous Aurora Ice Museum (the faux igloo-looking structure seen in the video), its hot springs, flight tours, ATV and snowmobile tours, snow coaches, and much more. There is a shuttle to/from Fairbanks, offered by the resort, but I preferred to drive in order to keep our schedule independent and to drive to other places around Fairbanks.
Here is the video of the Ice Museum:
Video of the Springs and Resort:
(One the way there, in this video, it appears as though the car is driving on the left side of the road, but I assure you, we drove on the right-hand side. The camera was upside down during filming; flipping the footage during editing caused this result.)

Fishing Vessel hits large Sailing Vessel in Good Visibility 20/8/2010
Here is the press release from this incident.
At a hearing 30/05/2011 at Southampton Magistrates the Officer of the Watch of a fishing vessel pleaded guilty to one safety charge brought under Section 58 of the Merchant Shipping Act 1995. He was fined £1,700 plus costs of £6,435.
On the 20th August 2010 the Andrea had finished fishing and was returning to port in the Netherlands. The skipper and rest of the crew were below leaving Jan Baarssen alone on the bridge in sole charge of the vessel. The Andrea is a 36.5 metre beam trawler registered in the UK but is based in the Netherlands
The Alexander von Humboldt was returning to Germany after a training voyage with a crew of fifty nine (59) consisting of thirty three (33) trainees and twenty six (26) full time crew. She is a large three masted sail training vessel registered in Germany.
The visibility on the day was good (10 Km +), wind was southerly force 5-6 with weather being grey and overcast.
During the afternoon of the 20th August 2011 the Alexander von Humboldt detected the Andrea on a steady bearing on its port side. The Andrea was not fishing and was the give way vessel. The Alexander von Humboldt started sounding its whistle. The Andrea failed to give way. The Alexander von Humboldt also tried to contact the Andrea by VHF radio but had no response. The Andrea claims to have gone hard to starboard and when within 15-20 metres of the Alex von Humboldt, the Andrea was seen to go full astern. The Andrea struck the port quarter of the Alexander von Humboldt. It was a fairly low speed collision.
Apart from some scratched paintwork, the Andrea was undamaged.
The Alexander von Humboldt was lucky to suffer only some dented shell plating with associated damage to internal wooden bulkheads and deck planking together with bent or buckled handrails. It was very fortunate that no harm came to the crew of the Alexander von Humboldt and that its rigging and watertight integrity remained intact.
Mr Jan Baarssen, 51, of Urk, Netherlands pleaded guilty for conduct endangering ships or persons. He was finerd£1,700 plus costs of £6,435
In passing sentence the Magistrates stated that it was fortunate that they were no injuries especially among the sail training crew.
Mr David Fuller O.B.E., Principal Fishing Vessel Surveyor for the Eastern Region of the MCA stated:This is yet another incident occurring on the return of a fishing vessel to harbour. Fishermen are reminded of the requirement to keep a good lookout at all times. Also that that the trip is not over until the vessel is safely tied up in port.
We would like to thank the German and Netherlands Police for their assistance in this matter
